It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

First face ups...what did your first face up look like?

Jun 24, 2015

    1. I don't have a picture to upload but my first face up was above average and far better than I expected. I don't do them anymore because I have a tremor in my hands after a nasty fall I took about five years ago. I now pay for face ups.

    2. Not the best, but not the worst. I really messed up her lower lashes. I make cloth dolls and, in a way, resin is easier. With resin, you just wipe a mistake and fix it. With cloth dolls. you have one chance to get it right or else you'll be making a new head.

    3. My first face-up was so bad, it offended a small child. xD Eh-kekekekek. For my first face-up, I used WAY too much MSC, and it actually started to dribble down his face in lumpy globs. I was almost afraid it would dry with a big lump on the side of his nose. but more MSC evened it out... But it was layered on so thick that when it would chip off, it looked like pieces of egg shells...!

.He looked like a zombie, as I tried to blush him and gave him "smokey eyes" and it got way too dark and way out of hand. And his eyebrows went on for days. I'd carried him around with me at a convention, and while standing in a line, I moved his arm so he'd be waving at this little girl. She glared at him and then up at me like I'd just splashed mud all over her shoes. Yeh, he was uuuuugleeeey...

But a few face-ups later, and I'm doin' pretty good. x3

    4. I have 5 new faceup fails. Each one on a different head. I was very excited to start my own, got all my new dolls blank, also thinking my art background would help me succeed, not so! The only thing it helped with was not being too hard on myself. I know it takes a ton of practice to start a new canvas and learn all about my materials so improvements happen with time, patience, and having fun.;)

    5. Definitely not great. Even after several other times... I think it takes more practice than I can do...

Eyebrows definitely suck. Too thick and too dark. Lips were hard for me to do, too.

    6. I had no idea what I was doing, and it probably wasn't a good idea to practice on a 1/6 dollie but hey, she was the only thing I had at the time!! [IMG]
I had no real idea what I was doing, just generally know what colors to use, I couldn't even find my pencil sharpener, so dull watercolor pencils and crummy brushes it was!! : D

I haven't done my second yet, I want to get some better brushes and a new sharpener first. And use an SD head instead...

    8. My first attempt was so horrible I refused to take a photo. After watching a lot of YouTube videos and investing in better supplies I have greatly improved.

    9. My first faceup was one of the worst that has ever been. He had super gross eyebrows. I didn't even bother finishing the faceup because they were so bad. I just wiped it and said "Hey, maybe next time, right?" I mean, look at this disaster.

    10. Pink. Very, very pink. I finished a practice faceup on a tan non-bjd doll immediately before I started on my white-skinned YOSD, and I went a little insane with the pink pastels. :doh I guess she looked really pale to me. Her face and lips are too pink for the rest of her body now. Seriously, her head is like a cherry on top of vanilla ice cream.

On the plus side, her eyebrows aren't awful, and I had a good time while learning a lot. I'll redo her faceup later this year when the humidity isn't so bad, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. I'd also like to try one on a bigger head because, geez, working on tiny YOSD heads is not easy. I've painted Easter eggs far bigger than her head.
