First time...

Feb 11, 2009

    1. I took my Bobobie Mei to my art class with me after I stole her from my sister. I actually was running late that day, so I had put her almost completely naked in my tote along with her clothes and wig. Near the end of class, I wanted to show her to my classmate and so I brought her out of the tote to be dressed while the professor was out. I put her shirt on and noticed the two guys in class leaning over to take a look. I immediately covered her with her blanket and told them it was inappropriate to look at a lady while she was dressing. ;)
Near the end of class I finally finished putting her clothes on and I showed her to my classmate across the table. It seemed immediately all the girls were around me to look. My professor thought she was an art model and took some time posing her while she talked to me. Then I got a rubber band for her and started to put her wig on. One classmate jumped up with a "Oh! I can do this" and grabbed her to put it on. Her hands were all over her face everywhere while she struggled with it. o_o I admit I got very nervous during that, and after she gave up I tried to gingerly put the wig on before eventually resorting to the fingers all over the face thing too. *_*: After that, it wasn't any problem to let anyone else touch her.
She generally got a good reception there. There were a few comments about how she was creepy, the guys weren't too interested, and my professor liked how she could be used for drawings and photographs. Several people thought her ears were strange though, and that was surprising. I didn't realize that a lot of people would think the large elf ears would be strange. I did learn from the experience too. I learned that if I take her with me, she stays in the tote and doesn't reveal herself. :sweat

    2. I loved reading everyone's stories. Myself and Ashael took her new doll Madison out the day he arrived. Just to a couple different parks. A few people stared but overall I think it went well...

      Any new stories?

    3. The first time I took Delia out, it was to McDonald's the morning after I got her. I was with my cousin, who also had her two dolls with her, and we stood them all up on our table. A lot of people were looking at us like we were crazy. When we were ordering, another cashier came over and started asking me about Delia. She told me I was insane for spending so much money on her. Then, when we were sitting at our table, this lady got up and got napkins like five times just so she could walk past them. It was really obvious too. We laughed. There were also a couple guys sitting at a bar-like thing and we heard one of them say ball-jointed dolls, which was really exciting too. xD We didn't talk to them though.
Overall, it was a good experience. It was really entertaining.

    4. I'll have to drop in when I get to MI... we can talk Sasha AND Hajime out and really wierd people out as they discuss what THEY want to purchase

Most of my dolls have been out in public at some time or other, especially my 2 Dollzone boys.

I took Nicco to work just before Christmas Break and my co-worker asked if he was a present for someone. I rather shocked him when I said "Yeah ME!"

    5. I think the first time Aeryn (DMK Flocke) was out in public was only for 5 mins at the train station (I'd just done her face up at prowlcats so I wanted to look and I was bored. I took her out of her box and just sat her next to me and we waited for the train together. There were only a handful of people at the station, the only person who noticed was this business man on the other platform across from me... he was laughing at me ... Then I noticed a little girl and thought it best if aeryn went back in the box...

First proper "outing" was a dollmeet at the kent museum of life. It was really fun, although I must admit I took a while to get use to the staring. When I was a teenager I was a major goth so I was use to dirty and strange looks... but theses looks were kinda different so I felt uneasy. By the end of the day I was use to it though ^_^ People asked questions to the group and I just let other people answer (Still a newbie so I just let them handle it!) Although I got to admit there is one question that does annoy the crap outa me... "what are they for? why do you have them?" why the hell do people collect stamps?! cars?! get pissed every weekend?!?! same frigging answer! it makes them happy... Only boring people with no hobbys or personality could seriously need to answer that question >.< [/rant]

    6. the first time I brought Haplo out with me was to the Elf Fantasy Fair, which is a fantasy event that we go to every year.

It was great having him there, and I got to talk to fun other BJD owners. so good experiance.

I did not regret teaking him out, except for the fect that back then he did nog have a face-up at all, and therefor he looked a bit sad next to all the finished dollies.

finally all people were nice, although my boy got confused with other dolls a lot lol

    7. I have pictures of my dolls on my facebook. One of my co-workers clicked through, saw them one day, and asked me to bring one or two in because she wanted to see them. So I packed up No Name and Corin in a make-shift carrier (I really ought to invest in a real one, even though I don't take them out often...) and brought them in while I was off-duty.

She thought they were very interesting and alot bigger than she thought they would be (my Delfs' size usually seem to take non-doll people by surprise) and she asked a bunch of questions I had fun answering while she played with them a bit. One of the guys who works with us wandered by at one point and just sort of boggled at the both of us, and I got the standard "What do you do with them? Why did you buy them?" and so on questions. I explained to him what they were and that they cost more than his iphone and to stay away from them. When he specifically asked for a number I told him I paid $600 for each of them secondhand and he booked it out of there. xD

As I left, No Name's wig blew off in the parking lot and I got some funny looks from a lady who was walking in as I chased it around, but overall a good experience.

    8. my Shinku first time arrive, I brought her to my college and intro her to my classmate... thou some of them kinda freak out... >_<... But it was good I guess... xD

    9. The first time I took Himeno out, was to a dollmeet in London. It was at the London Aquarium, so pretty full of other people and a lot of them kept a wide berth.

I remember one guy was unbelievable rude to me when his kids came to look at the display me and a friend were looking in, since I was holding Himeno and he didn't want his kids to 'catch the weird'.
I don't regret doing it, since now over a year on I'm friends with a lot of the people I met at that first meet and doll meets are frequent. That, and I'm used to weird stares and stuff now. I find it amusing.

Chrys was recieved at a doll meet, so she was outside anyway, though I was wary about having a new doll around some of the newer people at the meets. Other then that, they go out a lot. I don't really take them out outside of doll meets, other then when I go away. I don't like leaving them at home.

    10. My BBB Eve has been the only one to go out, and it was a little scary. My friend wanted to see her before I graduated, so I actually brought her into a High School 0.O She spent the day in my purse covered in wash cloths and her pillow, and came away undamaged but with her hair a bit messy. In the end, though, it was really fun! A lot of my friends saw her who had never seen BJDs before, and a few even took pictures.

    11. My friend's house doesn't count...since that's like, my other home.

      Where did you go?
Longwood Gardens. It was the first really nice day out for the spring. I bought a new dress for me and made Adelheid an outfit and took her to this beautiful place. I took quite a few pictures.

      Was it a good/bad experience?
It was mostly good. I would have preferred it to be less crowded and I was till getting used to posing her properly. I was also nervous a bit because a lot of people were stopping to watch me take pictures of her. I'm very shy and don't like attracting attention to myself so this was somewhat unpleasant at times.

      Did you regret doing it?
Not at all! I had a really good time there. This was a great way to break the ice for taking a doll out in public.

      Also, what were people's reactions?

As I mentioned, a lot of people stopped to watch me take pictures. A few people asked me about her/where she was from/if I made her. One woman was watching me set her up and take pictures. When I got up, she came up to me and was very interested as she is a doll collector as well. She was very sweet. This was the first time someone came up to me to ask about my doll and this eased my apprehensions about bringing her by a lot!

    12. My dolls first time outside was terrifying! She was fine, I was the one that was worrying too much and stressing out. She was perfectly happy and safe.
Where did you go? I took her to vist my best friend, which was sadly two buses away, it would take an hour to make the journey.
Was it a good/bad experience? It was fine. I was just being my normal over protective self.
Did you regret doing it? not at all. I'm perfectly at ease with taking them out now.
Also, what were people's reactions? Well I kept her in my bag the whole journey so people didn't react to her at all.

    13. Where did you go?
I went to the Sketchers store in LA. I had an CP El in my purse, and half of his body was sticking out so people could clearly see him.

      Was it a good/bad experience?
I guess it was an overall goo experience, but I doubt I'll ever carry a bjd in my purse again, not enough room for them.

      Did you regret doing it?
      not at all

      Also, what were people's reactions?
I had a couple of starers but no one had a negative reaction to seeing him. We were mostly ignored.

    14. When I first got Mintie (Peak's Wood), I couldn't put her down! So, of course she tagged along with me and my husband for a few outings (he's a great sport). I took a few photos along the way and got a few looks, but only in interest...nothing bad. She even went to lunch and sat upon the table while we ate..until my husband got nervous that the server might knock her over, so I sat her on my bag in the chair next to me for the remainder of the lunch.
I plan on taking her out tomorrow actually...to find some 'little' things of her own. I'm prepared for the looks and the questions if they come. :aheartbea

    15. Where did you go?
Last monday I took her (No face-up no eyes in, un finished ensemble) to meet a new Doll friend (My first doll meetup too). we went to a local art store to meet then to a restaurant for food and talk

      Was it a good/bad experience?
It was an awesome experience and I look forward to more outtings (especaially cause she's done now)

      Did you regret doing it?
      Heck no! :D

      Also, what were people's reactions?
Mostly facination with our do9lls. One gentleman in the next boot hgot up to pay his bill and go; looked at me, then the dolls, then back to me and just nodded as if to say "Hey". Everyone else tho probably couldn't describe one feature of mine or my friend's but could probably describe the dolls reasonable well.

    16. i took alchemy to the store once before i sent her off for her face-up and no one stared or anything i was just scared she was cold hehe no undies under her dress.

    17. well the first place I ever took her was on a train museum..... but that doesn't really count it's close to my house and it's not really (to me) much different from just having her at home..... so for that I'm using the 2nd place I took her outside to.

      Where did you go?
to my high school (yeah, scary!)

      Was it a good/bad experience?
fairly good..... she stayed in her carrier most of the time but when she was out everyone loved her

      Did you regret doing it?
no way! she helped me pass my spanish class! (I brought her in for a speech about a robot....... I got an A in visuals and felt a lot more confortable talking because I was talking about her)

      Also, what were people's reactions?

"Oh look! a Barbie!" no one knew about BJDs. also I let a lot of people hold her

    18. I'm back again...lol

I just got my second doll Finn x3 The first time I took her out was only minutes after her box opening. Nobody really saw her except my sister 'B' and Ashael...We sat in the parking lot at KFC for twenty minutes, before Ashael headed in to work. Not much of an outing lol..but it was Finn's first time~

    19. My first time out with Gabriel was within about an hour or so of unboxing him... because I screwed up restringing and he came apart! :o So I tied him more or less back together and carried him off, naked and bald, to JoAnn to find some elastic that would fit him and let me put him back together. I felt a little bad for the lady who helped me, though... I think when I told her I had a doll to fix, she expected some kind of pretty nongendered porcelain thing, not something smaller and clearly male... For the most part, though, he was wrapped up so he didn't draw any attention.

I've taken him and the others out several times since then, and they never seem to draw a lot of attention except from other doll people or curious artistic types. :) For the most part, people will look over, and then go back to whatever they're doing.

    20. The first time Lestat went outside, period, was also his first "into the real world". I took him first to a Quiznos where I was dropping off an application, then I went to the part for a photoshoot. The park near here has a giant rec center, and this was in the middle of summer, so there was ALOT of people coming in and out. I ended up near the entrance and got lots of weird looks from people. A little boy (ok so he was probably 10 but that's little to me XP) came out and sat on the bench near me and looked like he wanted to ask me about him but...he never did.

I am planning *that is if my mom doesn't stop me* to take him to the Texas State Fair. Not sure when though, since I don't know what day we are going. -.-
