It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Floating head or headless body?

May 30, 2014

    1. Probably the body. It's a lot harder to evenly yellow a body than it is a head, and if it takes you a while to get the head you don't want the colours being off!

    2. I have often found heads that I liked & then had to research & wait for the right bodies to pop up to finish the dolls. Since then, when certain bodies pop up in the MP, I am sorely tempted to buy them up. Just in case I need one later... X0 But, so far I've been able to resist the urge.

I have a harder time resisting when a head pops up that I like. In fact I have one now that is getting by on a too mellowed body I just bought for her. Her head was a winter sale on a sculpt I've wanted for several years, how could I pass it up?!? And another recent impulse splurge is a new head sculpt which I won't be able to afford a body for for a while. I figure once it arrives I can try that head on two of the bodies I have to see if size & resin match will work before ordering her a body or starting another body hunt.

    3. I'd go for the head. To me, the body isn't as defining as the face. Also, heads can be harder to come by.

    4. Hmmmm very tricky. I received a Pukifee Pukisha faceplate from my lovely friends, so now I'm saving for a body.
I think the head is the important part because, for me, when I usually fall in love with a doll its because I love the sculpt- the body comes after.
      Hope this helps.

    5. I tend to go for the face more, So personally I would just get the head and then wait to find the body. Since most of the time the body is going to be covered by clothes, the head is what stands out a lot more for me.

    6. I've bought many floating heads in my time of collecting ^^;; but now I've found myself with a floating body I'm trying to find a head for! I'm not quite sure why but lately it's been Harding finding head sculpts I like but easier to find bodies I want. This had become sort of difficult since then the body I buy limits my head choices...the bodies are gorgeous though!

    7. I have had both. The body I got when I bought a doll off another member. She just tossed him in! I found out what company he was, and found them on Ebay, as I couldn't find a site for them. Through the dealer, I got him a head. Waiting now on a MNF head, and I ordered her a body on Fairyland since I couldn't find her one on the MP.

    8. Both >.> right now I'm waiting on two floating bodies... at least one of them will be used by my array of floating heads while waiting for its own, the other I need to find a head to match. As for heads... dear lord, I have a literal army of them.

    9. I have a floating head. I think it may be easier to find the perfect body, rather than finding the right mold. (though it of course depends on what you're looking for. In my case the face is more important. Thus if I see one I love, and I have enough money, I will buy it and get the body later on)

    10. Bodies are probably much easier to replace ( considering you want to hybrid) but heads, heads are hard to find. Well, the "perfect " head is hard to find. I think that unless the body is on sale or amazingly gorgeous, then settle for the head first, you will have more time to save up for the body:)

    11. As I have three floating heads in my possession. I know I prefer heads over headless body. It's more fun to find a body style you like and save for them later. Plus you get a better chance to bond with the head and find its personalty.

    12. I'd rather buy a head without a body than the body without a head. I'm much more interested in the head, her expression, her makeup.
Again, there are several heads that I would like to buy. But the bodies of these heads, I like a lot less than other bodies of the same manufacturer.

    13. When I dont have enough money I always buy the heads first since the facial expression is very important to me, right now I have two floating heads and I'm saving to buy their bodies... Or at least buy one :sweat

    14. I prefer to get the head first. There are a few bodies that I'd really like to try out someday but I won't get them until I have the head first. I like to do a little research on resin matching before I get either, too.

    15. I'm really not sure which I'd prefer, to be honest... my first inclination was to answer "I'd rather have a floating head," but then I thought about one of my "recent" dolls, so to speak. He started life as a floating head, for whom I got a body fairly promptly... but it didn't look right, so I pulled him apart again, making him back into a floating head. I shopped around for the right look, and found another body that was just perfect... except this time the head no longer looked right. Apart he came again, the head moved off to a bust stand, and a new head arrived for the doll, putting together a full doll I'm finally pleased with! (And ultimately, a doll that is no longer the hybrid he was for four years.) But until I had the right combination of both head and body, he just wasn't quite working for me.

Similarly, I have a pair of heads (one floating, one on a body) where I've been slowly searching for the "perfect" body for both. The body one girl is on isn't "ideal" at all, and I'd really like to replace it, but I can't find what I'm after, so until I find that body, she'll continue to be a floating head.

And on top of all that, I currently have a floating body... I redid the body on one of my other dolls, but had done a lot of mobility work on his old body, so I've decided to keep it and get a new head. Though, for simplicity, it'll be a head from the sister company of the original caster, since I'd planned to buy the head as a full doll anyway. :sweat

It can be challenging to pair up a head and body that aren't from the same company, or to match a particular look desired for a specific head (or body), so honestly, I think I'd prefer whenever possible to just skip the whole quandary and wait to buy a full doll whenever possible.

    16. I always go Head 1st body later :) I think its just because I fall for the faces and not the bodies most of the time.

    17. Head first <.< body can come later on xD because I prefer having floating gorgeous head than a big body without head >.<

    18. Head first. That way, I already have the face I want and I can look for a body in the meantime.

    19. I'd always prefer floating heads, because heads are generally much harder to get than bodies, and are almost always cheaper. Plus, once you have one body, you can have multiple floating heads that 'share' that body, whereas multiple bodies can't really share a single head :XD:

    20. it depends on both: I desperately wis to have and Iplehouse SID girl body. and I got an Elfdoll Sooah head. But unfortunately you can not combine both without modding the neck. So I think its better in my case to buy a complete sid-girl and try to find a body for Sooah. I often see hybrids with Mirodoll-bodies for floating heads. maybe better having a cheap body like miro than none body?
