    1. right now i'm Doll-less :( so i'm not used to the whole "floating head" thing. honestly it kinda scares me haha. i mean i might have a floating head to practice face-ups on if i ever want to poke my foot into THAT....

But for now i would rather have complete dolls... i hope that doesn't make me sound like a bad potential doll owner((mommy))

    2. I keep mine in a coffin! 8D

No, really. I have a coffin I built for a themed meetup, when one of my boys was Dracula. I keep all the spare parts in there, though with spare heads I try to get them out sometimes if I have a body that they will fit on. The fact they don't have bodies doesn't really bother me, but I do plan to get them bodies at some point.

    3. wow my floating head is on its way and I might use it for face-ups or buy a body for it later on.....if I get attached to it......which I might.

    4. I have one floating head right now, and another on it's way. ^^ I have characters in mind for both as well as names, but when they're just blank, floating heads, they're not "alive" yet to me. Basically my current head is sort of treated like a sad puppy; sometimes when I pass it, I'll just give it a quick pat on the head and be all like, "Nawww, poor dolly has no body!!" xD It's a like a poor, pitiable creature you don't know what to do with, LOL.

    5. I know there are plenty of you out there...
How many of you have that "floating" head that hasn't yet received their own body?
Whether it be because you saw it a body-less head on the marketplace and snagged it up, you couldn't afford a 'whole' doll, or you just wanted to have multiple dolls but couldn't yet buy them their own body (due to money issues...or even space!). Let's give homage to those floating heads who don't yet have a body to call their own.

Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?

For those of you who HAD a floating head...let's hear some "completion" stories!
Did you find it difficult to snag them a body? (since many companies don't offer them separately).

Let's give those 'bodiless' dolls some love.

    6. ... I have ... several.

      Severe understatement.

13 floating heads and faceplates at home. Eight can share bodies that are already here. All are planned to get bodies of their own someday.

All are event heads or faceplates. Wintery'08 I bought for a faceup practice head. Summery '09 I got with my KDF Bory. Wintery'09 I got with my winter clothing order. MNF Scar Breakaway with my LTF Rachel order. The rest? Because I'm a sucker for Fairyland event heads :/

Heads can have just as much personality as a full doll. I even have hats and wigs I switch out on a few of them every so often ;D One's currently chillin' on my shelf in a beanie. Beanie'll change in a few days to a newsboy cap or ballcap or kerchief. I may not be able to pose a head, but enjoy it? That I can do. I don't really feel too badly that they don't have bodies yet. I know I'll get them eventually.

    7. Man. I just got another head today, which makes my 6th head waiting for a body i can't afford anytime soon XD

My 'collection' fo floating heads started from event heads, followed by seeing sculpts in the marketplace that i'd been seeking or otherwise wanting so i bought them. Not worth passing up a limited sculpt just because i dont have a body yet! Since then, i've gotten more bodies, but keep getting more heads ^^; Luckily right now all of my floaters are minifees, and i have compatible bodies for them, but i have had a few heads along the way that had no possible body to use for a really long time. Those were the ones that were really hard to work with, since it made them feel really incomplete and detached.

For all of my minifee heads, i switch them around with the bodies i have. (i have 4 bodies, and 10 heads so it gets pretty crazy o_O;;; ) Each of the bodies has a specific head they "belong" to, but theres waaaay too much sharing going on so its hard to say who gets the most body time XD

As for "completion" stories, i've got a few =]
-First "Floater" was Ryn, who was my second complete doll. I thougt it was going to be really hard to find a body that would work for him, since the company changed resin colors and no longer made bodies in the color he was, but i was able to find a body on th emarketplace pretty easy!
-Second floater was Serien, my mnf chiwoo. It took six months before he got his body, but i'd seen his head in th emp for a really good price so i snatched him up and got his body when i was ordering another mnf the following summer ^^ ...this of course started my event head issues and mnf insanity!
-Third floater was Citilla, my volks school B girl. I had problems with her, since i wasnt sure if i liked the sculpt enough to justify how much i spent to get her. I did a crazy amount of research on resin matching and sizing (cause i'm not a fan of volks bodies >.o ) and decided to make her a hybrid, and happened upon just the body i was looking for in the MP. I ended up overpaying a bit for the slight risk the hybrid wouldnt work, and its my most expensive single item purchase to date, but its one of the best choices i made =] The seond i got her on th ebody, he character was set and i was ridiculously happy ^^

The only other one thats even remotely itneresting is my bambicrony Roko kid, who was a random "extra" that came along with the kumi i got from the MP. I had no idea what to do with the kid for a while, but i ended up getting him a body secondhand and made him a hyrbid, too. he's an awkward little brat, but it makes him more special to me ^^

    8. I just ordered my Aya character his body I got the head from a friend who was like this head is not one of mine and thought that it looked like Aya I agreed so I had a head and eyes before a wig or body then I found a wig now I am awaiting his body from Dikadoll. So it happens.

    9. Do you have a floating head? Just one right now! hes a Kdoll SP Kill-U
What's their story... how did you come to acquire them? I saw a photo of a Kdoll on DoA and instantly fell inlove with it.. so i HAD to find one for myself! And this is rare btw... I look at MANY MANY photos.. but never so I can find something new to get.
Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway? Yes! Hes sharing my Abio Angels body ^^;;. But I feel really bad when the Abio Angels head isnt on his own body DX
Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days? YES of course! Hopefully before May so I can take both of my SD's to a convention ><

    10. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
Yep, but only one. A Luts 08 man head. He was technically my first doll.
What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
My friend saw him on ebay and I had to have him. ^^
Sure they aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
      Sometimes. ^^;
Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
Yes! I joined a split for his body and is should be here March/April-ish. ^^

    11. Let's see...

As far as floating heads go, I've got an AoD Rao head which was her original magnetic head for the doll, until I bought one off the Marketplace for faceup practice and decided I liked the face up on that one better.

I have 2 Shushu floating heads, One Sleepy-Eyed (from Fairyland) and the Open-Eyed Elf/Vampire head with a faceup my Meggilu, (From the Marketplace).

I have a Sleeping Seorin head and both the OE and SE versions of the Breakaway event heads, including the lightning & fire scar arms.

I've got... a Sleeping Piki Faceplate, and a polar bear faceplate on the way.

And I think that's it. I'm still not sure about what I want to do with the Breakaway heads but somehow I don't think I'll be getting them a body.

    12. I'm a collector that quickly discovered that floating heads are not the way for me to go.

I had purchased a Scar Shiwoo head after they started to pop up after the last Fairyland event. It was an incredibly impuslive purchase, which likely started the problems. I didn't connect with him.

But he just sat in a box. I was afraid that, given the time it would take for me to get his body and neckpiece, he would start to yellow. He was white skin, adding to that stress. And since he was always tucked away, I kept forgetting about him. I faced him up, planned out his body, everything, in hopes to bond a little, but got nothing out of it.

So I sold him, and probably won't get another floating head again.

    13. I can't do the floating head or spare faceplate thing - I tried it - more dolls for less money (taking up less space), and then the whole spreading the cost thing of buying th head while you see it available and saving for a body later.....

Doesn't work, I either put the head/faceplate away and forget all about it (I don't bother getting sleeping faceplates any more for the the complete dolls I have) or I find myself desperatey searching for a body so the doll can be whole now.

I have one floating head at the moment. A CH Little Junior Ai Dione.... I gave up on finding a body I like for this head (I don't like the Little Junior girl bodies - they look too mature for the childlike face-sculpts and they're an in between size that bodies don't come up in very often), and tried selling the head on the marketplace, wit no success, so the head is in a box somewhere occasionally dragged out for use as face-up practice (whihc usually starts another round of unsuccessful body searching...{grin!}).

    14. Two, but only one that really counts.

The blank, eyehole-less face that came default with my Dollfie Dream body doesn't really count. I keep her for sentimentality and set completion, but she's never getting a body.

The option 02 head with eyeholes and faceup does count, and that's only because I don't know exactly what I want to do with her. My SD13 Megu is on her body, but I thought maybe I wanted to make her a mini dollfie dream, but then if I bought a resin body for my Megu I'd have an extra DD body that she could have instead.. So it's really my indecisiveness that makes her float at the moment.

      I buy her eyes and wigs as if she were complete, so she's not terribly neglected @__@;

    15. I have two floating heads currently. I did have a pukifee faceplate, but I found a WS pukifee set that I bought for the body. And I felt really bad for doing that, because the other heads were there first! xD
As of right now, I'm saving up to buy my Sezz a body. I've had him for almost a year I think. The other head I've acquired is a minimee head. :/ I'm not sure if I like him or not. I loved loved the pictures of his sculpt on the internet, but when he got here...I don't know, it didn't seem like he clicked or something. His head sits in a box that my Sezz came in, I frequently forget I even have him. Which makes me feel horrible.

How did I get them? I got my Sezz when IoS first released him, joined Kaeru's GO. And then the other head I got off of the MP. I just saw him rolling around from day to day, kept looking at him...and then the owner lowered the price! I bought him then. xD

Also, I've found it very hard to actually come up with names for the rolling heads. So far my Sezz has just gotten a nickname. Mr.Emo-pants. He always looks like he's on the verge of tears, I say it's because he doesn't have a body. He does however have some jointed hands that can scratch his nose (they don't match though! xD I don't think his body will either...frakendolly!), a wig and a hat. He has some clothes too, I always have him sitting in the hood of his jacket. He's ready for a body.

    16. I couldn't find a suitable head for my character so the only way was to sculpt it by myself.
He was finished in November 2009 and was pretty cared and loved not only by me but by other local community members. He attended doll meetups etc. A good friend of mine asked often: "How that head is getting on?"
Of course I planned a body for him, and as I already had a certain body in mind, matching wouldn't be a problem. The body is already on the way to me so rejoining will happen soon!

    17. I've had a number of floating heads who didn't work out and who languished faceup-less in a box at the bottom of my wardrobe for years until I sold them all a couple of months ago. For the most part I find it pretty difficult to bond with a floater, especially when he (all mine have been boys) doesn't have a body or a faceup and it's easier to ignore them until it's time to get them a body or to sell them on to a better home where they'll have a chance to be loved and given some proper attention.

That said, I've had two floating heads who've been success stories too: the first was my Juri '05 boy whose head I got with my very first doll, and who was also hidden away in a drawer for a year and a half without a second thought from me until I decided to get him a faceup pretty much on the spur of the moment one day. Once he came back from that I still wasn't terribly happy having him as a floating head, so in the end he actually stole a body from one of my other dolls... who permanently became a floating head in his place, and who I eventually sold off at the end of last year :sweat

My other successful floater was my School A, who was bodiless for over a year simply because SD17 bodies were rarer than gold dust at the time... I'd put him on one of my other doll's bodies from time to time for photos, but he'd always end up back in a box in my wardrobe at the end of the day. I think the difference here was that I was actively searching for a body for him right from the start, and the day I was able to bring one home for him and make him complete was absolutely brilliant - he's still one of my favourites of my crew even now, in large part because of all the time and effort I spent bringing all his pieces together :)

    18. I got my very first floating head last month, MSDoll Drayton 2nd. I always wanted a SD boy and it took me almost a year to fall in love with one. I fall in love with girls and kids all the time, from first glance, but guys, they are difficuld, I just couldnt find at least one that would have make me go 'WANT!!!111!!'. And then, finally, MSDoll released their Drayton 2nd. That was love from first sight and after long months of thinking if it's true love or not I decided to buy him. But, for now, got only a head, because a) msdoll only body is way too wide in shoulders and has strange torso joint b) I cant decide which body to get for him c) got no $$$ for body yet.
But I am planning to get his personal body for him! I am saving up for it already. And while he's only a head, still without wig and faceup, I cant put him away in a drawer. I put some fabrick in his box, so he lies like a jewel on a pillow and I can look at him whatever I turn my head to where my dollies are xD And I put adorable hats on him :) He's only a head, but so cute already, I love him just as much as my complete dollies <3 But I really wish I'll be able to save up for his body as soon as possible! >_<

    19. I have two floating heads, and two floating faceplates. I do want them them all to have their own bodies, but it seems that the faces I want always pop as disembodied heads first. :horror:

I have an Ipsae Monahan, Lusis, L-Bi, and the most recent head that I got my hands on (on the way, eeee!) is an IoS Asyd. I fell in love with that face and wanted one of my own for so long, but I heard that he wouldn't be sold any time soon and kind of gave up on that thought. When I saw an Asyd up for sale on the MP, I didn't hesitate to get him.

I didn't have time for dolls at all up until recently... And I didn't even have all the things I needed to give them faceups (it took ages for my local hobby store's restocking schedule and my own to sync up so I could get the right sealant and paint, six months or so, arrrrrgh), so when I peeked into the box I have them in, I felt.. pretty bad. :(

But now I have everything I need, and I'm gonna spend some time with my bodiless babies. I love them all just as much as my complete boy, and fortunately for them, after one more head (lol...) and a couple of headbacks, it'll just be focusing on getting bodies.. Six dolls are more than enough for me. If I hadn't set a limit for myself, I would probably have a lot more heads floating around.

    20. I bought a damaged DIM Sergei head on the Marketplace because I felt sorry for it, then spent some time modding the damage. Having the poor fellow bodiless bothered me more than I thought it would, so I started looking for a compatible body almost immediately. I didn't feel like facing him up or anything until I made him whole. After a lot of conversations both here and at a meet-up, I decided I actually needed an older DIM Happy body to get a decent resin match. The first one that showed up on the MP was a girl, so that's what my Sergei became.

I also ordered a Galena head last year because the head was all I could afford at the time. But I don't know if she counts because I might actually have her body here before she arrives.

And now I have an Everpurple Iris head. I had originally fallen hard for the whole doll and then Everpurple dropped out of sight, to resurface as Aria. I knew I would never get my Iris, then a head showed up on the MP and I got her for my Mother's Day present. I'm now looking for a body for her.
