    1. I have.. *Counts* 4, and I'm gonna sell one. That head just doesn't fit any of the characters I have in my mind.
I'm going to do some modding to all the three heads I'm keeping but they're not going to get bodies of their OWN any time soon. (Because they're not Original Characters, and I need to get all my OC's together before that.)

I'm gonna let them borrow the bodies of my other dolls when I want to take pictures of them, so they don't need to just sit alone in the closet for years. ^^

    2. Do you have a floating head?
Yup, currently at two, my Elysium Jamie head and MSDoll No.3 head.

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
Well both heads come from companies that didn't originally make bodies for them. Ironically I'm waiting on an MSDoll body as I type, but it's going to the Elysium head rather than he MSDoll one. The stories for both of them are quite simple, I saw the heads, instantly fell head over heels in love with them and sometime later ordered one direct from the company and the other found on the marketplace (as I don't believe he's in production anymore). Both of these guys fit into my plans however as they suit their intended characters perfectly for while it's tempting to buy lots of floating heads just cause they're pretty, I still limit myself.

Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
Sure I do since for me I find it very difficult to find much to do with them when they are just heads as I don't like body sharing amongst my crew. I let them sit on the doll shelf and look at them and think how pretty they are, but I sometimes feel a bit of guilt over spending so much on something I hardly touch as its only a head.

Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
Absolutely! As mentioned my Elysium head is currently waiting on his body (at last!), and I've plans to match my MSDoll head with a Dollstown body. He most likely won't recieve it at least until this time next year, but at least knowing which one I have picked out for him and on the list eases my mind. I don't have any more plans for floating heads anyway as the rest of my doll family has been carefully chosen and I'm 90% of the time pretty good at sticking to my plans, so I don't mind having just one floater kicking around for a bit.

    3. So...I don't know if this counts but... I'm actually considering getting a floating head, without any real serious plans for a body.

Okay let me explain. I don't really have room for an SD-sized doll anymore. Well I do, but not where it would be safe. I have a 1-year-old cat who is somewhat the center of my universe despite what a little demon he can be. I purchased a bookcase with sliding glass doors especially to keep him away from some of my more precious collectables, including my YoSDs. I know an MSD would be cramped in it, though, and an SD just isn't possible.
But I LOVE LOVE LOVE to make doll jewelry, and I don't want to be restricted to making just Yo-sized stuff. I want to open a shop someday. So I was pondering slapping down the cash for a head bust at Luts to hold/model my jewelry. Then I thought hey, why not get a head for it? I'd get the head a nice faceup and eyes and a wig, and it would even have a name, but I don't know as I would spend the money for a body for a while. I guess maybe I could get her one for photoshoots but display her on the stand?

      Creepy, I know. :sweat

    4. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
I do, a modded dreaming Lishe head (her eyes have been opened)

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
I bought her pre-modded from the Marketplace to try face up techniques and modding on.

Sure they aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
Project Lishe (...poor floating head doesn't even have a name...) was never intended to be a complete doll, she was always going to be a floating test head, but along the way I felt awful, so I bought her a Dollfie Dream II body since I've seen so many Lishe/DD hybrids. The body and head looked wrong together, so I got a Dollfie Dream head to make a full doll rather than sell the body. I decided if I wanted to complete Project Lishe I'd have to buy her a Delf body.

Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
I tried a Dollfie Dream body which didn't look or feel right (I didn't like the contrast between the hard resin and soft vinyl together), so I've bought a Delf body on layaway. My plans for Project Lishe now involve using the whole doll for cosplay and face up test purposes. Since she has no character, (like the Dolls Joss Whedon's Dollhouse), I can just give her a character and she can be whoever I want her to be, until I change my mind!

    5. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
      A Balthier MNM head

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
I love the character, so I joined a group order. I wasn't really sure when I would be able to get a body for him, or even what body I wanted to get, but the funds just aren't there right now, so I have some time to decide.

Sure they aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
Not so much, no. Probably because the money that was for his body went to taking care of a sick cat, and the cat is more important to me. He'll be completed as soon as I can afford it, until then he can sit on my shelf and look pretty.

Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
For sure. If I could only settle down on which one I want.

    6. Do you have a floating head?
Yup, actually have 4! Kazekid's Pepper (Mercy), CP Lu Wen Dreaming Vampire (Jaxxon), Soom Bygg R. (CobWeb) and Soom Beyla R. (Aries)

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?

My first floating head, Mercy (Kazekids Pepper), I bought when Kaye Wiggs first sculpted them, she was one of the batch of 20, I believe. Jaxxon (CP Lu Wen Dreaming Vampire) was originally an impulse buy, he was first named Gemini, and was an elusive stargazer from another world. When he arrived, he proceeded to tell me he was NOT Gemini, but he was Jaxxon. He told me his given name was Jaxxon Kaneonuskatew (Native American Cree meaning "One that walks on four claws"), and that he is a Coyote Shapeshifter (Meaning he can take the form of any animal but prefers the Coyote.) from the Cherokee nation (His name was given to him by a close friend of the family who was Cree). Aries and CobWeb (Soom Beyla & Bygg R.) tagged along when I bought 'Ciel and Andromeda, which they are all from another "world", the world of the elementals. ('Ciel brings thunder and rain, he is the "Looking Glass" version of Andromeda, perfectly opposite. Andromeda, paired with 'Ciel can also bring thunder or rain, but when he is by himself, he can also bring beautiful dreams to the sleepers of this world when it rains and storms.), Aries is a ram boy (think Totetsu from Pet Shop Of Horrors), and CobWeb is a centaur boy.

Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
Yeah, I take Jaxxon with me when I go on a trip and I absolutly CAN NOT take anyone bigger than Jaxxon's head (and bandana tied around it, bad boy style!/ Motorcycle rider style). =] He's my "Spirit Guide" or "muse" to put it that way. He has been "living" in my head for the last 5 years, has manifested himself to me in the form of a white wolf when I was on vacation in Arkansas (They DON'T have wolves up there either! and definitely not semi transparent white wolves.), so finally I decided to get him a "body". Mercy gives me the saddest look from under her tobaggan that Mom crocheted her, and Aries and CobWeb are chilling in my curiosity shop jar XD Uni heads in a jar! Yay!

Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
YES Definitely! As soon as I get my Puki and Ford Mustang, I'll be saving for their bodies. Mercy's body is going to be expensive though and harder to find then a needle in a haystack. (Volks SD10 GIRL body.), Jaxxon will get a CP boy body. and Aries will be sporting a Teenie Gem body with his hooves, CobWeb will take some time to get his body perfect because nobody makes grey teenie gem size centaur bodies. So that'll be a dye job and hoping it comes out right.

    7. Lol! Right on! Love for the floating ones!!!

Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
Yes, actually I have 4 xD
What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
*Dusts off story-teller's hat* Okay, well:
Tory and Unnamed: I've always wanted to own ALL of the Lati Red boys (I really like them as a set) so I'd decided ages ago that I'd work out how to do that. I spotted poor Unnamed on the Market place as a whole doll (he's a Lati K) and I snatched him up impulsively (stupid thing to do really.) Bonding with him was really difficult, and I just couldn't figure out what character I wanted for him since I'd just gotten into bjds and had only had my first one for a month or so! In the end, I took him apart, sold his body and kept the head thinking someday I'd figure him out and be able to give him the love he deserves.

Tory was much easier- I'd come up with his character while stalking the Lati website, and when I saw his head (going for about half price!) on the market place, I snatched him up immediately! (Pattern emerging I'm sure...) But since I'd already decided his character, it was sort of easy to get him the way I wanted (mostly.) And I've just ordered a body that will be for either him or for poor unnamed.

Then, I was browsing the gallery when I found the Luts summery database. I was surprised how pretty these heads were and I decided I really needed to have one- body or no. So I spotted one for a great price and snatched him up too. His name is Destiny now and he'll get his very first faceup when I get home this weekend. His character was super easy- it literally just popped into my head while I was planning out his faceup and I even had a wig to match- it was perfect.

Last is my poor little unnamed Chiwoo. I grabbed him for $30. No kidding. It was the price more than anything. He needs some sanding and some moderate modding and I decided he'd be great to practice my modding skills on. I have a Shiwoo head floating around somewhere as well, but I've long since lost it.

Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
I plan to have bodies for all my heads except for the chiwoo and shiwoo. I'd actually like to find the Shiwoo since it has default makeup and sell it. The chiwoo is really just for modding purposes, so I think it'll always be a 'junk' head. The rest of the boys are characters in their own right, and I bought them planning to give them bodies one day when the price was right.

For those of you who HAD a floating head...let's hear some "completion" stories!
Did you find it difficult to snag them a body? (since many companies don't offer them separately).

I added this since a body is on the way (and my boys are already fighting for it XD) I have no idea who'll get it (probably whomever matches it best.) But it was actually quite easy to get. I've long since decided that most of my dolls will probably be hybrids since I like the idea of each having exactly the body type that fits their character. I also hate the notion of owning the same $400 item twice- and since some of my favourite dolls come from the same companies, I will buy only one body from each. I don't mind resin matching being a little off since I do all my own body blushing and faceups, so it's really a non-issue there, and that made it easier. As long as the resin was close, I was willing to take it.

    8. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.

Currently I have one floating head, and two more on the way.

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?

The one I currently have was a event head, and I've been trying to sell it.

On the way is a Unidoll Ark head, who was ordered as a head alone because I couldn't afford a whole doll before he was discontinued. The other head is a Luts Blanchet head ordered second hand; I plan to use her for practice face-ups.

Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?

For the event head, I thought of making a project out of it and turning him into a OOAK doll and selling him whole since the head is just really not my style. However, I feel this is more of a hassle than it's worth, and my skills aren't quite up to par to make an awesome face-up and outfit that I would want to market with something like this.

Once I get my Ark head, I'll probably be itching to get him a body as soon as possibly. Then again, I don't really know just yet since I don't have him in person.

Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?

For Ark, yes, I plan to eventually get him a body. The event head, well considering that I am selling him, no. The other doll, I can't really say just yet. Even though she will be a practice head, I can't say never.

    9. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
My Lu-wens share a body (Nayo was the original, Lye was a second-thought), and Lou, Victor, and Cello are floating.

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?

All of them were 'extra' (Lye, Valon, Cello) or event heads (Lou) that came with my other dolls xD Valon was the only one who actually had a planned character before I ordered. They all have their own characters now, fortunately or unfortunately <3

Sure they aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?

Sometimes, ffff. Mostly when it comes to photoshoots and the unequal amount of attention they get. And I'd really like to be able to photograph my twins together, but you see my problem.

Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
Absolutely c: My priority right now is getting all of the gang together first though (even if they're just heads), and then I'll worry about getting their bodies and custom face-ups (Lou's my practice head till then xD).

    10. Ahh, I have two summery 09 heads that I've been waiting to get bodies for. I almost did around christmas, but I got pipos Bao (high on my wishlist ever since I discovered BJDs) and a littlefee leah instead. I really want their bodies, but their bodies aren't limited.. haha... so unfortunately they have to keep waiting for me not to blow the body money on other stuff.

I want to turn them into twin girls.

    11. I have two floating heads at the moment, Dahl and Bala. Dahl's a Summery 09 and Bala is the extra fantasy head that came with Beyla. Bala has her new body in the mail and will be complete once it comes! Dahl may some day get his body (Once I get up the nerve to get it, he'll be my first SD) but after that he'll still need faceup and...everything else. So right now he's a floating-head character all his own. ^.^

    12. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
I used to have a floating head, my School Head A. He would sit on my computer desk and watch me type. :) He was bodiless for almost a year!

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
I bought him off of EBay - it was one of those auctions where it ended at 5 a.m., and I specifically set my alarm for 4:45 a.m., bid furiously on the head, won, and went back to sleep to prepare for a test. XD In retrospect interrupting my sleep before a test was such a bad idea, but I love Azel so much now!

Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
A little bit. I had a full doll before purchasing the head, so sometimes he would go body-snatching. XD

      For those of you who
HAD a floating head...let's hear some "completion" stories!
Did you find it difficult to snag them a body? (since many companies don't offer them separately).
Since he had a big head, and was a Volks' doll, it was crazy madness to find an affordable SD13 long-legged boy body. Some other sales fell through due to some hidden costs the seller hadn't told me about, and I ended up splitting an FCS boy body with Starfighter, which was awesome. :)

What was strange is that the personality that I had envisioned him with changed entirely from a floating head to a body. He went from a really talkative character to completely mute. I almost freaked out when I saw that I had two dolls - a doll and a head were previously easily transportable, but TWO DOLLS? :-o It was so weird for me to be carrying around two dolls instead of just one.

    13. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love.
      Yes, a Lishe,Juri 05, Heliot,Cuprit and Beyla OE head.

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
I bought the Lishe head on the market place because it had a gorgeous faceup so i snagged the head and Juri was my Grail so a must buy.Heliot and cuprit was bought as head because i couldn't afford a body at the time and Beyla came with an extra head.

Sure they aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway?
      Yes I feel so bad.

Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days?
Yup, Cuprit will be first then Lishe and Heliot. Juri will be last as she shares a body with my Dillui.

    14. right now i have 2 floating heads and they won't have their bodies. but let's start from the beginning.
my first floating was modded elf vampire, i always wanted to have yder and my friend decided to sell his head for a good price, so i bought. planned the body and he's a full doll now. later i purchased chiwoo sleeping from luts, also planned him as a full doll and he has body. my first msd head came with my two mnf-s, it was event des head from fairyland. she was so cute that i couldn't resist and buy her active line body. next i found chiwoo on doa marketplace for great price, had to have it :) from the very first sight i planned a girl body for this head, and now it's my fav sd girl in my colection. after this i decided no more floatings and... bought another sd chiwoo head, that i wanted to mod like asadal chiwoo, and planned boy body but... that head was so girly and i had no matching body for her so... i bought ... whole des :P the body belongs to my chiwoo but sometimes i switch heads. my sd des will never had a body but i really love this mould and like too look at her from time to time. i also have mnf marcia head, she share a body with my mnf des (in the past i was little bored with my mnf des but didn't want to sell her so now when i get bored just change heads and can have fun with "new" doll)

    15. I never understood people who were getting only heads. What do they do with it? Why don´t they wait until they save up enough?
And then I got my own floating headXD It was Sairen, my Ducan. But as soon as I got the head I became obsessed with getting body for him and luckily, it was christmas time so with some help from my parents he was bodyless for only few weeks.
But now I had the chance to get at least part of my dream doll - SOOM Chrom, and here I am with yet another floating head which not only will not get the body anytime soon but might end up without a chance to having it´s rightfull body ever...
So now everywhere I am two dolls and head are, watching movies with me, siting at the computer....must be really funnyXD But I am glad I got him. For now he shares Sairens body from time to time to take pictures.

    16. My second BJD is only a floating head for the time being. It was in Christmas Day; I was lurking in the marketplace as usual and happened to come across a sales thread for a Zaoll Luv head. I'd always liked the Zaolls, well, the Muse a bit more than the Luv, but never really considered buying any of them because I wasn't fond of their bodies and sizes, didn't want to get the whole doll for only the head and thought it was pretty unlikely I could find only the heads. Such an opportunity, then! And in Christmas Day!

...Delayed mail service and customs managed to cool down my excitement a bit. By coincidence too, at that time I'd sent my boy's head away for a face-up commission so I had a headless body - and naturally, my Zaoll Luv head + a DragonDoll WS body didn't match, but at least it helped me decide on the proportions. Now that my boy's head is back (on his body, I mean), I've been left with a floating head that rests on a Obitsu chest piece for a lack of a better bust (and it's a bad resin/vinyl match, too). I could have managed a body for it already, but I promised myself I'd "finish" my first BJD before getting a second one - that's it, I'd get him the face-up, overall look and clothes I deemed perfect for him before jumping into the next doll. Of course I haven't been completely true to my word since I got my floating head... but I tried not to walk away on my promise to myself anyway, and spent the money I'd saved buying new wigs and clothes for my first doll. I don't have a full-time job at the moment (just my work as a private tutor), so I refrain from buying in layaway until I have a regular income... I'm planning on getting my floating head a head as soon as possible, though. It looks just so... sad... even if my friends think "creepy" instead... looking at me from its improvised bust...

    17. If all goes well, I'm hoping to have a floating head soon in my possession. Specifically, a Migidoll Ryu head. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can scrounge up enough money to put into my Paypal before the ordering period ends:...(. I'm still waiting for a bunch of people to get back to me regarding my job applications :|...they're taking a little longer than they actually need to. If not, I guess I could take my chances and hope I win the lottery or something.

Mostly, I want it for the sheer reason of being able to tell people I have a pretty head sitting on my desk. Though, I suppose I would eventually get it a body if I get it (prays for good luck to come my way). I have a feeling a Ryu head would stay a floating head in my possession for a long time...

    18. I currently have one floating head and one floating face plate.

My Minimee Eric Northman/Alex Skarsgard head is awaiting for me to purchase him an IH Elder body. He will become my girl Oracle's beau.

I just recently purchased a DS OE Saint faceplate from Ebay. The saint face plate will eventually become my Fallen Angel, Azza - but that may take awhile.

And though not a floating head or face plate, I do have a pair of floating Chrom Paws that will eventually go to my Aztec god, when I find a suitable body/sculpt for him.

    19. Do you have a floating head? Let's give them some love. I have one, an NS Dollmore Adam Dry.
What's their story... how did you come to acquire them? I found it for sale on another doll forum. ^_^; It was cheap and I wanted a random head to practice faceups on.
Sure the aren't 'real'...but do you ever feel bad that they aren't 'complete' anyway? Nope. XD Right now he exists to creep the other dolls (and occasionally my friends) out.
Do you plan to get them their own body one of these days? I had an awesome idea for him once I'm done practicing...so yeah, one day I think I'll buy him a body. No hurry though.

    20. I used to have two... now I only have one, but sadly it's not a completion story.

My girlfriend bought a BBB Rachel last year to make her into a pre-existing character from Brom's The Plucker. However, she already had a floating head and when the BBB doll came in, she decided to instead use the body to complete her doll. This, of course, left the BBB Rachel head without a body, or a character. After playing around with some of our unused wigs and eyes, we found a match we liked, and "she" became a "he," and he became mine. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get him a body right away, financing and my own stubbornness getting in the way. You see, I didn't want the BBB boy body for him, as I was liking the BBB bodies less and less the more I had to play with them, and I didn't like the idea of having a squishy body for him, or rather, I wanted my boy to have some sort of muscle definition. Then, of course, came the time when I couldn't afford anything, so completing Nuri went on the back burner.

As time went on, and our finances became strained, my girlfriend and I both decided to sell the BBB Rachel as a whole doll, rather than just the body.

My second floating head is a Soom R. Heliot.

I've been in love with the Heliot ever since I saw him for sale on the Soom website. He just took my breath away (and still does). So, when my girlfriend saw that one of the people she watches on DeviantArt was selling a Soom R. Heliot head for a reasonable price, well, I had to have him. Incidentally, he's how I ended up on this site, trying to oogle pictures of him before I had him. He doesn't have his body yet, as I'm holding out for the Long Leg human body for him from Soom. I'm still holding out, but, as with Nuri's body, it's ending up taking final place against things like rent, food, and car bills.

But I'm patient. I'm willing to wait to complete my doll, and eventually, I'll have enough money to get his body.
