Floating heads - How do you treat it when it's JUST a head?

I got a free Karsh head with my Minifee (first doll ever) and I love it, (in fact it's on the body right now) but I don't know what I'm going to do with it once my girl's main head has a faceup. ;A; I like it a lot on the girl body, but having two girl Minifees seems so redundant. XD; I wonder if I'd like it as much if I made it a boy. Or maybe they can just share a body forever, that's not so bad. :3 I don't really feel bad for them, because whenever one head is on the body, I forget about the other. XD;; Now all I have to do is think of a good faceup.

 

Hehe, I have ended up with two floating heads quite by accident.
The first was a resin mixup from MNM. I had requested WS and got a NS, so now I have a NS and a WS version of the same head...I'm not really sure what to do with the second head to be honest. I am a horrible pack rat, so I doubt I'd ever sell it. And the sculpt came out so beautifully that I must be able to think of something for it! That said, I'm not sure twin Sherlock Holmes would do at all, hehe, so perhaps I can mount it somewhere like a bust?

As for the second head, it is from my NC Tedros. He has a human and Chimera head. At the moment I am not sure which one will win the body. I had planned to just trade them whenever the mood struck me...but I'm beginning to think that I may just have to settle on one. I'm still deciding. I think my husband would kill me if I told him I wanted another body for the second head. ^_~

 

I have three floating heads right now. Two of those will hopefully get their own bodies eventually, my second MD Miho that I bought together with my first to be his twin brother, and then my MD Cho who happened to be for sale for the first time when I placed my order for the twins .. so I more or less spontaneously threw him in as well because I simply fell in love with his face. Even if he's just a head and still face up - less, he is one of my favorites and I can't wait to be able to get his body home and complete this doll. His character came to me out of the blue; something that normally doesn't happen to me (with my dolls) a lot.

The third one was a free event head and is gonna stay a floating head for a while. I still have trouble bonding with him, not because he's just a head. As I said above, I can perfectly bond with floating heads as it seems, just not so much with this one.

 

I have loads of floating heads! I find them cheap and can't say no :<. But the bodies tend to cost more, and heads take up less space. I plan to get them all bodies eventually ^^.

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
I bought her as my first doll, body and all direct from Luts. I was so happy to have her, but then I saw Fairyland Minifee bodies and vowed to get one. Of course, I got Sophie, Coraline, and Ember in the time I should have gotten Mina her body... >>;

It's not a pitying feeling for Mina that I have, it's a nostalgic longing. I really REALLY miss having her around! She was my first BJD, purchased with my hard-earned allowance money from me doing odd jobs around the house. I once took her things out of the little cardboard box I stored them in and felt really sad because she wasn't around.

Mina's body has actually JUST been bought! It should be here around late-July if we're lucky duckies! >w<

Yep. I BELIEVE (if I remember right) that he is an '08 Luts Wintery head. He's Dan the Practice Head. ^-^

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?

He has no story. XD I needed a head to practice face-ups on, one that I knew I wouldn't like, so I wouldn't want to buy it a body. So I started hunting for an inexpensive SD head from a company I have no love of sculpt for. Luts happens to be one of those companies I just don't like.

Nope, he's meant to be bodiless. He's a practice head. I also sometimes stash spare eyes in him. XD I have a lot of eyes I'll never use for a doll, since I don't have a doll that will use eyes that colour. Well, except for the really pretty rose-coloured 16mm full rounds.... Those might go in a future doll. But Dan doesn't have a set pair, and he will never have a body.

Neeeeh, I'm one of those "Crap I have too many heads" dollie owners, lol. Currently I have two heads and a faceplate... with two more heads on the way. T.T

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
BBB Weylin- Belongs to a character of mine that's gonna need some MAJOR modding. I figured it'd take me a while, so I bought him used off MP to work on whilst I find him a body.
Souldoll Miryu- Is being difficult to find a resin match for. He's an older head (2002), so most Souldoll resin matches are after they switched resin recipes, which I find lame!
Puki Cupid Winking FP- He's sharing a body with my other puki FP right now! I would like to get him his own someday, but I dunno. XD Puki's faceplates are to easy to change, there's really no point aside from not being able to pose them together. XD
MNF Seorin mod- Is actually on his way!! I've been wanting a Seorin, and when I saw this adorable mod I had to have it. Freakin' MP. >.<;
Luts Summer Event head type 2 2010- Phew, mouthful. He's coming along with my Vivi that I've just ordered for the summer event. He's gonna be my badguy! XD

The Alice head I go for faceup practice, although I'm starting to realize I'm really bad at planning faceups when the head doesn't have a character xD;

The Alice I view as solely a head u__u; Every now and then I think what they'd look like with a body, but it's kind of funny.... they're too big for a YoSD yet way too small for an MSD body, yet the head itself is for MSD o-o;;

The Beyla head I viewed as complete several times before I was anywhere near finding a body. Just one night, I had a picture of this maroon-haired, orange-eyed, hooved boy... I knew right then I couldn't ever have the heart to sell him after that *u*;;

The Alice Head, nope o: They're a funny color which I'd find difficult to match, actually, also a practice head's a practice head? x3 They'll be complete in their own way, though ;3

My Beyla, whose name is now Jeremy- is fully complete <D Well, faceupless, but wig, hooves, and eyes wise- he's complete ;D (not even my first doll is that complete 8C)

 

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?

My poor, dear Pico is without a body. He also needs a haircut. And I need to do another faceup, his coating is too shiny. He is this character (with the green hair of course). I'll get a doll for the guy on the right one day, too.

He's a Migidoll WS Vamp Miho. I acquired him when I happened to have some extra money when somebody had to pull out of their group order. I helped them out and took their place.

Definitely. He just sort of sits there in his box looking up at me occasionally. I take him out once and a while, but all I'm doing is thinking about ways to get him a body.

Yes. As soon as I get my next couple of paychecks I'm either going to buy a complete doll, or get him a body. It depends on wether or not the limited doll I want is going to still be on sale by next week.

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
One is a DOB tender Libra head. I hadn't intended to buy it but a member of the local doll group was selling her and she was so cute. The other is a Jr. Delf event head that is incoming. I went out of my way to find a split partner to get it. It is perfect for my character Killian who was previously a Wintery 08 head on a Jr. Delf body. The body is actually shared between him and my Jr. Delf Terra NiNi

More so with the Jr. Delf head (though it isn't here yet) because I feel bad that Killian isn't complete. Technically I ordered the Jr. Delf Terra just to get a body for him but wound up loving that head and keeping it so now they have to share a body. I hate head swapping.

Yes I do. When I can save up enough I will buy a second Jr. Delf body for Killian. For the DOB head I do intend to buy a DOB body but I need to find one on the market place because it is the older resin color and from what I can tell the new bodies won't match resin. I am seriously considering re-shelling my character Amaryllis in the DOB though I hadn't really thought about it before. I love DZ's but their bodies make them harder to dress. I am thinking I will keep my DZ to gift to my oldest son eventually since he loves her so much.

For those of you who HAD a floating head...let's hear some "completion" stories!
For Killian I saved for a few months and ordered the JR. Delf body but then wound up with two extra floating heads, the Jr. Delf Terra and the Wintery 09 event head. Both of whom turned out to work well for other characters I wanted to shell. My Wintery 09 I was able to buy a Popodoll boy body for which is just perfect for the character and a good fit for the head. The Terra is back to using the body he originally came on because I sold the Wintery 08 head and the new event head will probably not be here for a while. I also had a floating Lu-wen head for a time but was able to save and buy him a cp type 3 body.

Did you find it difficult to snag them a body? (since many companies don't offer them separately).
So far I haven't had any real trouble. I have either been able to buy a body from the company or hybrid them pretty easily. I do foresee some trouble getting a body for my Libra head though since the new body will not match. It is going to be tricky finding the DOB body second hand and it is hard to match DOD resin.

I was in love with his official Leeke photos and just had to have him! But the full doll was too steep for me at that time and I couldn't wait till I had the money coz he was a limited. And it does seem like their body was a tad small for a mature face like his, so I decided to buy his head first then decide on the body later...

Right now I have 3 floating puki puki faceplates and 1 floating head. The faceplates are Sugar (with FL face-up), sleeping Sugar (with FL face-up) and winking Sugar (no face-up), so they're all the same character. She has a name (Malina) and I have a general feel for her personality but she still needs her own body (been needing that for half a year now ). Now gather 'round for storytime! I got Malina through the DoA marketplace. Someone who lived in the Netherlands (just like me) had a puki puki Sugar WS for sale, including sleeping and winking faceplate, pukisha faceplate and sleeping pukisha faceplate, pukisha set, wingtop boots, 2 dresses, 2 different pairs of hands, a wig and a teddybear. I snatched her because I wanted a blank WS pukisha with pukisha set and sleeping faceplate, and Sugar was my second favourite puki puki. For now she still shares a body with Ukkie, the pukisha, but I think I'll be getting her body next month.

My floating head is Lavender, the human Soom MD Afi head. When I ordered my Afi I wasn't sure I'd be keeping the OE head, though I did have a vague idea of what she might become. When she got here she was too cute to give up, and I gave her a face-up I thought was suitable for a dryad. She had too big green eyes back then Since then she evolved into a dryad like creature, but not exactly a dryad (she embodies the lavender plant). Recently I got her a wig and a decent pair of lavender eyes, put her on the Afi body, took some pictures of her and made her a nice outfit. There's a Bambicrony body on order for her, so she won't stay a floating head much longer

Basically I want to get my floating head and faceplates bodies before buying a new doll. Seems more fair that way

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
Zack, I noticed him on the marketplace. One of two from that batch and for nowhere near the original price (like, way cheaper!) so I bought him..
Owen, a friend of mine is selling quite a few of her floating heads and I told her I wanted to buy him from her, but did not have the money to pay all in one.. so she made an exception to sell him to me on layaway.

Yeah, with Zack. He has a wig and face up and eyes but I would love to buy him clothes and stuff so I really want a body for him. My other floating head isn't here yet so I don't actually feel bad about it yet..

Well yeah.. Though I'm not sure when that will happen. I still have a complete doll on my wish list which I was sure had priority (then came that Owen) but they will all have to wait since I'll be studying in England for five months from september..

 

I find floating heads kind of depressing. I have one - a Domuya Taka that I got as a gift head - and I'll have a second, a JDF 2 Summery head, when my Luts order arrives. I don't think I'd buy a floating head on purpose, unless it was a really rare sculpt and I had the money for a body right away! I find it hard to bond with just a head, heh.

I have a Wintery 09 (Ren the renshuu head ), an 08 Man and a Crobi Nao. The latter two occasionally get to share bodies with two other of my dolls.

What's their story... how did you come to acquire them?
Ren was because I liked the promo pics and was plenty willing to buy lots of LUTS stuff *L*. The 08 Man I bought for one chara but he ended up being another. Van the Crobi Nao was bought only for his body, and went ahead and grew a chara on me -_-;.

I feel a little bad for them. It also means that Archer and Van can't participate in photoshoots with the other charas from their storyline because they're all sharing bodies . . .

One day. I don't have the space for them right now, and I can't afford them either. I truly do expect to complete them someday.

 

I have a floating SeiRei Yugiri.

I regret buying her this way because looking at the head just floating around does not make me like her as much as I thought I would. Hopefully, once I put her all together she will be perfect. It doesn't help that I have zero plans for her style at this time. I just liked the mold and thought she would look great with my other dolls.

It wasn't an impulse buy because I put a WTB thread up on DOA. I just think that receiving a doll with only a head is not as exciting at receiving the whole doll thus, some of the magic was not there

Well, my SNG Ryun was on the marketplace and I thought he was gorgeous. After a difficult search to find the company I realised he wasn't being sold anymore and so I had to get him.

Not at all. None of my dolls are complete (as you can see in my sig) and I'll make sure to get him a body before the next doll arrives, he just has to be patient.

Without a doubt. For me personally, I don't see the point in owning just a head.

 

Only have one- and Angelsdolls Cian Cat avatar white skin. He'll be getting a face-up eventually. Unfortunately he won't be getting a body until after I get a doll for Daniel's girl Shauna. Since that's looking like it will be next year before I can save up enough money for her, Cian's going to be waiting for awhile.

 

I have one... a Luts Wintery 09 senior delf head... he's been without a body since just before Christmas. I had been meaning to get his body first because I didn't want a floating head sitting around without a body for very long, but then I had to get my custom house pair before the sale ended and then my raccoon showed up and I was so very far off track .

I do feel bad for him because technically I had a plan and now he's a head still and two more dolls have shown up without him getting his body. I do have plans to do that soon though... someday...
