Floating heads - How do you treat it when it's JUST a head?

I have three disembodied heads at present; from time to time they "borrow" bodies from other cast members and appear in photoshoots. In between times, they sit wrapped in bubble wrap in small plastic crates. They all have faceups that I'm quite happy with; they're just waiting until I can afford their bodies!

 

1. Does he/she ever creep you out? "OMG DECAPITATION EEEEK!!!!!11"

Without eyes, faceup or wig, yes. It's funny how the closer it looks to an actual decapitated head the less creepy it seems.

2. What do you DO with him/her while they're bodyless?

Stored away.

3. Do you take pictures of him/her while bodyless?

No, unless for reference purposes.

4. Do you think a doll's personality lies more in the head, or the body?

I think eyebrows define the head and set the foundation for the personality. But I need the body to finish the rest of the process, because I want to look at the doll as a whole. So both are equally vital to me.

5. Do you give him/her faceups more often than your other doll(s), if so then why?

I have one floating head that's meant for faceup experimentation. But once I find a personality for a head, I tend to stick with one faceup.

6. What does he/she plan to be for halloween with no body?! >XDD

Nothing. Without a body, I consider a floating head "currently inactive" and I don't play/interact with it much.

I prefer not to to have bodiless heads staring at me, though I wouldn't say truly creeped out.

I have to heads that are on temp. cloth bodies so I can play with them and not have heads staring at me : )

I haven't yet, but I haven' t been taking many pics in general

Definitely the head

Nope. XD

2. What do you DO with him/her while they're bodyless?
Sensu usually goes where Shibu does. If I bring Shi out to the living room to watch TV Sen's head sits in his lap.
Whatever Shiwoo head is not on the body at the time just sits somewhere, though...Shibu's head usually gets plunked down next to Sensu, and Damae's head sits on my drawing table or in his box.

3. Do you take pictures of him/her while bodyless?
Sensu, yes, as it's part of his character in the photostories. The others, no.

4. Do you think a doll's personality lies more in the head, or the body?
Out of those choices? Head. It's the face-up that really solidifies the personality, though.

5. Do you give him/her faceups more often than your other doll(s), if so then why?
Nope...I usually give all my dolls a face-up that is 'them', then change it only as necessary for touch-ups.

6. What does he/she plan to be for halloween with no body?! >XDD
Not sure....something that involves a hat. XDDD

- Actually she (cp Juri girl, I named her Akiko) usually just sits on sofa with a mask on. I don't do much with her yet. *sigh* Tiffany (cp Miyu) doesn't want to share her body so much so thus far, Akiko is just floater in safe place. :3 Tough she is getting a personality and a story when I think of her.

- I did when she arrived. But since then, not yet.

4. Do you think a doll's personality lies more in the head, or the body?
- The head definitely.

5. Do you give him/her faceups more often than your other doll(s), if so then why?
- She is faceupped by Staci ^_______^ . But if she wouldn't have a faceup.. uu.. Propably I'd do that tough I'm not very fond of faceupping myself. :P

- Ehhh.. We don't have any halloween plans. Or.. umm... when is that again?

Yes.. together with my dolls... all together. Sometmes I might make fun of it too. XP

I guess probably head cause that's how their expression and look being shown.

I like to hold them when I don't have space/to many things to hold already to hold one of my boys, but still want a dollie with me ^^ Or I pose them with my boys. One of the heads is Vasiley's sleeping head, so he's never going to get a body, I sometimes change it, just because Vasy looks cute when he's asleep ^^

Sometimes, just to see 'what they will be like when they're finnished' or how they photograph ^^

More in the combination, actually..a head holds a lot of personality, but without a body, he can't move, can't be posed, can't..tell you anything through the way he poses or holds..so it's the combination of a head and a body for me.

Not with Ziyi and Jaiyi, but when I think of a new face-up for Vasy, I first try it out on his sleeping head.

XD Ziyi and Jaiyi don't like Halloween and the sleeping head...will probably sleep through XD

-Nope.

-They sit in a little basket on my desk, or in their box.

-No, but they will share another doll's body if the resin matches. But in the case of my BW Soo, I have no body to match her. So she just sits around, poor thing.

-It lies in both, in my opinion. A head is beautiful, but it really doesn't gain a personality to me until they're on a body.

5. Do you give him/her faceups more often than your other doll(s), if so then why?
-No, because the head doesn't have as much of a personality, so it's hard to create a faceup that suits the personality. No matter what I try, the head looks beautiful, but the faceup reflects no personality.

Mostly he sits underneath a cloth so that he doesn't get any damage from the light XD

Sometimes, just because he's so lovely, even without a body >3

I believe the personality stems from the body, quite honestly. My bodiless boy hasn't got much of a personality at this point since he hasn't got a body to carry out actions with. Not to mention I'd feel odd doing photostories coming from a decapitated head :3 and photostories are generally a way for me to get to know my dolls better.

Absolutely XD Partially because it's so much easier to do. You don't have to spend time removing the head from the body. And partially because, in my experience, a doll without a body hasn't solidified his personality just yet. So, face-ups are like...a quest for his look and the visual representation of his personality! :3

LOL. We have no halloween plans, unfortunately. My boys fancy themselves a bit too mature to take part in the fun >3

2. What do you DO with him/her while they're bodyless? -it depends on them, if another will allow it I'll switch a body long enough to do some shoots or take pics, others just sort of.. sit there ^^;

3. Do you take pictures of him/her while bodyless? -yeah, like I said above, if I can switch a body, I'll take pics [most of mine don't allow it though <_<;] so they have.. dress forms or fancied up bottles they sit on and I do pics that way ^^ even as just a head, they are too pretty not to share

Take Jenova, his personality is all around, he's him because of the combination of his headmold, faceup and super thick manbody. Noone shares his anything, he simply won't allow it. Others like Fuan and Fanuel, it's a bit of both as well, but because they are twins, I was allowed to switch bodies back when Fanuel was only a head, it didn't seem weird cause they are twins and essentially the same person. So I think it depends on the 'person' themselves really ^^

5. Do you give him/her faceups more often than your other doll(s), if so then why? -No, I tried once to have a practice head. It didn't work out. Once they get their faceup, it stays.

So far, absolutely nothing. I'm not very hands on with my dolls, so at the moment the head sits on my dresser in a bag.

Nope.

I think the personality lies within MY head. I give the doll its personality, so right now, my Nanuri head's character is all in my head. For a finished doll to fully express the character I have given it is a combination of many factors. I think faceup is very important, as that can completely change the feel of a headsculpt. Eye choice and placement is another, along with wigs. Getting the right body is also important for size and posing and overall look, as well as how you dress the doll.

I don't believe in doing my own faceups, so my head will be faceless until I send him out to get one.

None of my dolls have Halloween plans. I'll be too busy having fun and trick or treating myself to pay attention to them.

he just hangs out next to Nano on their bed. I'll sometimes change his eyes, but that's it...

Yeah! I think he's gorgeous even without a body.

Head head head. Bodies are just there to 'complete' the doll, but the head is what's individual and holds all of the personality.

I've got my poor Calcifer...

He never really did, I freak other people out with him tho since he has no eyes or hair ^^; I can't help but love him

2. What do you DO with him/her while they're bodyless?
He likes to sit on his little couch, be carried by one of the other boys, or just hang out and be a pain.

3. Do you take pictures of him/her while bodyless?
Yes xD I can't help it

4. Do you think a doll's personality lies more in the head, or the body?
I can't say for sure because I've never had a floating head that finally got a body yet, but I was worried about Calcifer for a while. He wasn't fitting in, wasn't showing me anything about him, he probably wouldn't even have had a name if I hadn't decided he'd be my Calcifer before he showed up, but then I took him over a friends and had him hang out with all our dolls and he started "speaking up" and basically came out of his shell. Is he 100% finished without his body? No. But he definitely has a good deal of personality in that head of his.

Yes, because he's unfinished I find it easier to practice faceups on him than any of my other dolls. It might also because he came blank and the other boys have factory faceups that I don't want to touch just yet.

I really don't have any plans for the boys for halloween... I might find some red fuzz or something and make him look like the REAL Calcifer (instead of just a humanized representation >.>) but he might kill me xD

Nope, Ringo never ever creeped me out. But i guess if he had no eyes or wig, then i might be inclined to want to give him eyes and a wig to cover him up.

I actually paid alot of attention to him while he was bodiless. i carried him around and used him to show others all about BJD's and how their completly custmizable!! i liked kissing his nose when he was sitting on my shelf.

Yup! i had several pics and a photoshoot with him just headless.

I think the dolls personality is seperate from the body...but the head is definatly the main focal point and thus the tuner for the personality.

-Not really. I actually look at my Na-Nu-Ri head like, "Awww. So cute." xDD My family and my friends think otherwise however, mosdef.

-I..well. xDD Nan Yi's served a wonderful wig model. And he's even more portable than my DoC Wi!! (not that I carry him around or anything, but oh GOD it's fun)

-Yeah. From photoshoots to photostories. =]

-I think the face says more about what kind of person your doll is..but then again, if you want to be more specific, the faceup is really what matters. The body counts too, from if you're trying to emphasize a bulky/athletic or an incredibly masculine doll to a slender/sleek, feminine doll. (I prefer the latter, just to add.)

2. What do you DO with him/her while they're bodyless? mostly she spent her time sitting in Isazu's lap. i did her hair a lot, and tried to get over my disturbed reaction. not her fault she was just a head!

Do you give him/her faceups more often than your other doll(s), if so then why? i tried to fix her lips a little (the teeth were painted pink), but gave up as i have no skill. my other dolls i wouldn't have dared mess with. i think this has more to do with the fact that her faceup wasn't entirely satisfactory, however.

Nope, Reiji doesn't creep me out, but he does seem rather angry I haven't gotten him a body yet ^^; It's gonna be a while longer though.

Reiji sits on a shelf with the other bodiless head in our house (pinkspider's Eran) or on the couch with the other big dolls usually.

Nope, the only pictures he gets is if he hijacks someone's body for a photoshoot (but then he has to give it back, he doesn't like that part of the process ^_^)

Honestly the head says more to me about the personality of the doll than the rest of it combined, but then if they have special markings that are specifically them that come with the body (tattoos, scars, etc) then the body definitely helps make the character. But to me, bodies can always be replaced, if I had to sell some of my dolls for some reason, if I could, I'd sell their bodies first before I sold their head ^^;

Nope, Reiji came with a beautiful face-up from Yuki of Generation Y, so I don't touch it, though he may eventually be sent for another face up because his face-up is starting to develop some wear for some reason (though he was only on a body for a while)--the face-up won't be done by me ^^;

I keep considering getting a head and trying my hand, but other things keep taking priority ^_^

None of my resin pretties have Halloween plans, probably mostly because it's not a big deal to me ^^; They'll all be themselves for Halloween (it also doesn't help I have to work so I can't really do much with them).

 

I no longer have a head without a body (though now he head is in for a faceup so now I have a body without a doll!), but I'll answer from the 6+ months that Veruca was just a head...

Never. And strangely, she never seemed to freak anyone else out when I showed my friends/family.

Veruca's head sat in the box she was shipped in, on a shelf. I took her out and looked at her every once in a while, but looking at her made me feel like a bad Doll Mommy because she had no body. >.< This is not counting the couple times she stole Lolli's body.

3. Do you take pictures of him/her while bodyless?
Bodiless? No. Though as previously mentioned, she took over Lolli's body for the occasional shoot.

I think it lies in both. She never seemed to have much personality until she was complete. Even now as she is a body on my shelf I don't see Veruca, I see a disconnected body.

I never touched Veruca's faceup. I leave that to Kalmia.

Her body plans to be the Headless horsewoman. Or... Something. Her head never got exposure for the Halloween it was alone.

 

Well, at the current moment, which ahs been about the same for...oh...at least a year, I've got a head. no body, no other dolls, just..a head. and as such..i don't really do much with it. Any fun things with heads?
