1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

For Second Hand Owners - Your stance in changing the doll's name

Dec 21, 2016

    1. For me changing a second hand doll's name is no different than changing the name the artist/company gave it. I have one OT bjd who's kept its sculpt name and that's because the name fit too well to change. Other than her, the only one I will allow to tell me what a doll's name is is the doll itself.
I don't foresee ever selling a doll I would prefer their name to be changed by their new owner, because for me selling my doll is very different from selling my character, my characters are not and never will be for sale.

    2. I have never kept a name that a previous owner has set for the doll. For me the name is also the personality of the doll so I always change the personality depending on what I see fit.

    3. I got all of my second hand doll either in---

      - almost untouched condition or
      - used but already been sold to a second hand shop so I have no idea who's the previous owner

Hence, I never have any problem naming them.

    4. I believe a doll's name from a previous owner goes more with their character and identity than the object of the doll you have bought. I would always expect somebody to expressly ask me as a seller if it was ok to keep their old name intentionally. First of all, I think it's not very likely they would know what I named the doll unless they were already following me online or something because It's not something I am advertising with a sale post.
I do have one doll I passed on and the doll kept the old name with the new owner but the owner was a very close friend/family member type relationship and asked me if this was ok and we agreed.
I do think as far as second hand goes it's pretty standard that you are selling just the object and of course you hope the next person enjoys it etc but it's not an extension of your previous character or your own emotional relationship with that object, because that's a difficult position to put yourself and others in.

    5. I have no issue with renaming a doll. Some dolls I will keep the name because I like it, or I feel the name fits them. If I want to change it though, I feel that is my right since the doll is now mine.

    6. I don't feel like I need to not change or ask out of respect.
I name my dolls based on how they feel to me (how I imagine their personality to be) and go from there.
If the name they had suited I'd leave it, but otherwise if it doesn't suit how I feel about it, you best believe I will be changing it.

    7. I have a few second hand dolls. I have seen the people say, 'This doll didn't work out with my crew.' or 'This wasn't the look I was going for.' or 'This one doesn't fit in.' and that is about the most conversation I have had with the previous owners about the dolls. I haven't had any of them tell me what they called the doll personally and I have never asked. The doll was sold by the company name, and that's what I bought it as. I don't think a seller would want you to keep their character and characters identity to begin with. They are possibly planning a new doll for that, because this one didn't fit.

In a highly unlikely scenario, where a close friend was selling a beloved doll and needed to get rid of it, but wanted it to have a good home and asked me to keep the name, before they moved to some remote and distant land. I would keep the name.

    8. As long as I buy a doll, it becomes mine, and I rename it. I never ask the previous owner what name they gave it.

And if the previous owner specify the name in the description, I still change it.

I don't think it's rude to change a doll's name and make her fully yours. On the contrary, it's like giving her a whole new life.

And frankly speaking, I don't care if the previous owner is mad at me for changing the name of the doll. It's not his/her anymore so...

    9. Agreed! I name them what i wanna name them, when they become mine/yours, they become YOUR character, your doll, your new baby, they're reborn <3! And being reborn means, new name >w<
