1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

General Seller Layaway Issues

Jul 9, 2023

    1. Has anyone had any issues with various sellers when placing new event doll orders?

For example, I wanted to setup an order with Luts directly last year but they kept sending me broken links to their layaway form. I kept having to open new CS posts about the issues. This went on for about 2 months. Eventually they said they couldn't do a layaway because too much time had passed! That wasn't even my fault! But I ended up missing out on a centaur I desperately wanted and had placed an order for! I had no control over that! I had placed the order early in the event too!

Then earlier this year I set up a layaway on Soom and went to pay my first installment within the given timeframe and got an error. I contacted them about it and they said it was too late despite orders having not even concluded for the release!

These are dolls I will likely never ever see again! What gives? Is there something I'm not understanding here? Don't they want our money?

    2. I can't tell you why these didn't work out for you and I'm sorry this happened. But I can give a couple of advices looking forward:
First, I've had good luck with layaways going through dealers. There can sometimes be communication issues and technical issues that many doll artisans seem less willing or able to deal with than dealers :3nodding:
Second, you don't have to give up when you've lost a chance to get a doll you really love :o I've come to realize that there is always a pretty good chance someone is willing to part with the doll. I have seen such matches made, even with like-new full sets for rare dolls and even one-offs! So keep trying, and don't settle for one in a condition that doesn't meet your standards because the one that does might just be waiting for you!
Find owners of the doll if you can and keep an eye on the channels they post. If they decide to part with it, you'll be aware and hopefully ready. But even if you aren't ready, you may be able to "follow the doll" and be ready for the next opportunity. ;)
And, very effective in my experience: post up WTBs for the doll when you're prepared to make a purchase. You may be able to stir an owner who was planning to part with the doll you love, but was not yet motivated to create a listing yet. It works more often than you might think! :D

Oh yeah and, regarding Soom, I think that for them it's unfortunately common that the limited dolls sell out before the time period to order ends :(

    3. @Kiarla I've done layaways with both companies at least twice and had no issues. Did Luts' Google form not work for you? Did you try opening it in Google Chrome or on your phone? They usually work very hard to help their customers so it's really odd that they couldn't make this work for you. However, they do bring older sculpts back so don't give up hope!

As for Soom, in their layaway policy, you have to make the first payment at the time you start the layaway. They will send monthly reminders after that. However, they have also been canceling orders that were paid in full before an order period was over because they sell out, or so they say. I also have not done a layaway with them since 2020 and they recently stopped accepting PayPal. They also bring back older sculpts in new ways so don't give up!

It is very irregular that their layaways didn't work for you and I am sorry that happened. Like the above poster said, you can try to get them second hand! These companies do bring back older sculpts because they are customer favorites, they just might have different full sets or colors or bodies.

    4. As for Luts, they sent me different links every single time. I tried on PC. My phone screen really isn't big enough for Google products.

I kept messaging them back with the errors and they kept pushing new, different and still broken links. It was never fixed until they said it was too late.

As for Soom, they didn't say anything to me besides I ran out of time. The doll was still shown as available on the website for the remainder of the event though. Which I found weird.

    5. I think Soom maxes out their manufacturing slot since supposedly they sell hundreds in China...or at least thats my understanding.

I second WTB adds. My friend has gotten a lot of her dolls that way.

    6. @Kiarla - I have had issues with paying doll companies directly, and I am sorry for your experiences.
Impldoll invoiced me directly, but PayPal refused to let me pay the invoice. Their fraud team flagged it because it was from China.

In that situation, I immediately reached out to the doll company and asked for their PayPal email address. Impldoll sent me another invoice, which was also flagged for fraud (lol), but they gave their email address to me, and I was able to send money to them directly.

I agree that it's easier to work with dealers in that respect. I've also had good luck with using PayPal's Pay in 4 option (works nicely with when I get paid), and sometimes, I just keep track of the layaways myself with a Google doc spreadsheet to make sure I pay them regularly. A bit of a pain, but I figure most doll companies probably don't have a robust accounts receivable department.
