    1. I've bought too many random ones~! Trying to focus my collection has been really difficult. I have so many I'd absolutely love to buy, but if I'm being honest with myself I don't have the space or money for a large collection. But I'm not sure which ones I really like the most if I'm self-limiting to 3 or 4, so I'm not sure what to do~!

    2. I prefer getting the dolls I like most, why buy at random just to get a big family and end up hating them. Number doesn't matter, the thought, care and love towards the dolls I buy matters. ^^

    3. I get the dolls I really love - but like most people above I have ended up with a lot of dolls anyway. I think there wouldn't be many people who would have getting a lot of dolls as a priority.

    4. I have no need for a huge hoard of dolls, so 100% only dolls I like. Besides, these things are moneysuckers. XD

    5. thank you everyone for your reply :)
and when i said big family i didnt mean you buy any random dolls or dolls you dont like at all xD
but sometimes we like dolls so much but they are too expensive when there are some dolls we still like but their price less
and you know.. its kinda hard to get expensive dolls specially when you are still student :doh

i want to get the dolls that fit in my family and ofc are dolls i like :aheartbea
i like role-playing and i'm planning to have a family
i wont really care for the size but for my stories and if these dolls fits in

but sometimes i like dolls but i think that they dont really fit in my stories
did you guys buy dolls that dont really fit it just because you like them o.o?

o.o" omg.. i somehow feel that i will become like you one day... :sweat

    6. I only purchase the dolls that I really want. I don't look for cheaper alternatives just so I could have more than one for the price of the original doll that I considered. There have been times when I've found, after locating the doll that I adored, a different less expensive doll that I'm somewhat fond of. I've never actually considered buying the less expensive doll just because it was less expensive. I'd have to like it more than the other doll to give it more than a passing glance.

    7. I used to rule out dolls I liked because they didn't fit into the story, but sometimes I'd get an idea for a new character that would suit that doll I liked, thus creating an excuse to buy that doll. XD My buying policy has changed over the years and it's not crucial for me to collect a set of my characters anymore. I ordered a LittleFee just because I liked it, he doesn't actually fit any of my stories.

    8. I will go for the second option for sure ^^.
      and why?
Simply because I want a doll which can bond into the family !
The fastest way would be getting my favourite :D!

    9. It depends on the individual. Some people are JUST looking for dolls that fit into their stories, even though they may be tempted by dolls that don't fit. Others have dolls that don't fit into one story.

I just buy dolls that I like. I have too many stories to try and fit my dolls to my characters, so I don't bother to do that. *_*

I've got a five-year head-start on you! It definitely adds up when it comes to dolls. If you stay interested, the dolls will multiply naturally (or maybe not if you're the rare type of person who is happy with a few dolls). Saving up for the doll you want may seem to take forever--but it will eventually happen. It depends on how important getting the "right" doll for you is... People all have different goals when buying dolls. Whatever works for you is good. :)

    10. I only want a small doll family, so I only get the dolls I love most. That doesn't mean that price isn't a factor to me. I'm overly cautious by nature, and after a certain price point a doll becomes a collectible to me rather than something to interact with. If I only felt comfortable keeping a doll in a box, I wouldn't be enjoying it the way I like (i.e. sewing for it, taking it out for photos, displaying it in my room, laughing when I catch my cat sleeping in the dolly's lap). At that point it would deserve to go to a home where it could be appreciated. The average SD price doesn't phase me, but when it comes to things like very expensive limiteds I really only enjoy seeing what others do with them. No urge to get one for myself.

When looking for my first doll, I remember loving Dollshe Bernard, Elfdoll Wu, and Dollmore Amos. Bernard was a couple hundred more, but quite workable price-wise. The others cost less, but they were just as awesome to me and gave me great ideas for what characters they could be. Still there was tons of wavering, I wasn't sure if I wanted 70cm or 60cm, or which of the different sculpts was really my favorite. It wasn't until Elfdoll Mir came out that I suddenly felt I had to have that doll. There was no more thinking about which sculpt this, size that, price there... He wasn't the most or least expensive doll that I looked at, but it was finally the "right" doll. Still have and love him dearly.

Maybe the problem isn't either price range, but something in you is still waiting for the right doll or needs more time to know which doll you want. Ultimately, what kept me from getting Bernard wasn't the price... he's a bigger doll than I really wanted. Thinking about the price was just a way of nitpicking, because I wasn't quite sold on him no matter how much I love the sculpt.

A hobby is just a pastime that brings you joy, there's no single way to enjoy it. If a doll is more money than you want to spend on it, maybe it's not what you really want. If you dearly want a certain doll and any other doll seems like it's only trying to fill the void, it's probably worth saving for. If you have questions about which doll you want, look at more dolls and keep looking until you know which doll you really want to get. It might be one of the ones you're already looking at, or it might be a doll you haven't seen yet.

Quoted for truth! Set your goals for this hobby, and enjoy the heck out of it.

Stories are flexible. Writers add, subtract, and change characters all the time. If you love a doll enough you can find a way to fit it in to your story; however, you certainly don't have to. People often use established characters to limit how many dolls they have in their collection. I don't depict any of my written story characters in dolls. I'm too fussy for that. My dolls are their own story set, so when I liked a doll that I didn't have a character for... I just made a character for her. Now I have a plot all about her, and it led to another character I'm going to get.

    11. Oh man, my boyfriend and I have a huge collection planned, but it's choosing the perfect dolls for each character that matters. I can deal with us being happy with some of the characters or dolls, depending on which is the bigger draw, and not finishing the collection than having a bunch of dolls we cannot manage and are not as invested in as we could be. But, that's just how we would prioritize! I love love love a big collection, so I totally see why someone might go the opposite direction! Believe me, it's been tempting, but now that my boyfriend and I are starting to seriously look at moving in together, it's better for us to be picky the dolls we put our money into.

    12. I'm ordering only the dolls what i like, or the dolls that suits the character in my mind..I don't to order random dolls as I may regret it later if I'm not satisfied with it..

    13. I get the dolls I like the most and then sob uncontrollably when my collection faces the possibility of hitting over a dozen (okay, just kidding, there's no crying involved). I just don't like the idea of having a lot of dolls, I'm confused dividing my attention between eight of them as it is. So I just get the dolls I like, the dolls I can really see myself keeping with me into the future, and just go for it. As of right now it's brought me to a prospective dozen, which isn't a problem.

    14. 2. To get the dolls you like the most without putting the family size as priority or caring for the price?

      and why?[/QUOTE]

When I got my first doll I didn't even care "how many" should I get... But on other hand I have a Limit of 10-15 dolls only because it's too hard for me to take care all of them.

I do also have a criteria before I decide if I should really get the doll...

      1. Do I really like the "doll"...

      > Aside liking the mold, I carefully look on different angles of the Doll's head. I'm very particular with proportion and eveness of the mold. Then next is I look into the doll's body. Same treatment as I did with the head, I study the details, proportion and posibility of the body. Quality is also important to me...sometimes i even look at the owner's photos.

      2. Do I have a character for the doll?

      > This is important for me because I have a story and I'm planning to make a full photostory of it. Usually I have a character waiting to be resinized but sometimes I also create a character for that doll I liked...

      3. Is the doll could fit into my doll family...

      > I want each dolls fit to each other. I don't want to have a new doll that looks off with my current dolls.

      4. Is it attainable?

      > Limiteds or price tag affects my decision... My Reisner took 4 years before I could get him :sweat

      5. Money...

      > This is everyone's problem... If I don't have money the doll should wait hahaha...

BUT sometimes my "complusive buying sydrome" attacks when I love the doll and I have enough money for it... so the # 1-4 could be ignored :D

    15. I do keep the size of my doll family in the back of my head when buying, but stricktly in the "room space" scenario of "Will I have a place to put this doll that I totally love?"

But I would never buy a random, less-liked doll just to get to owning doll # so an so.

    16. Totally. In fact, I kind of do it the opposite way, and rarely buy a doll that fits an existing character. I have several dolls who look very much like characters of mine, but they always grow their own distinct personalities and backstories- I couldn't actually doll a character, there's just no way it would fit. Usually the character emerges from either a drawing or the doll itself, and with most of my pre-existing ones, they've all come from dolls that already represent them. That, and if I got one as a BJD, I'd have to get several hundred others- no kidding. If I made a list of every fully developed character I've got, I'd still be writing years from now, and worse yet, I'd need to have all of them in doll form. Because of that, I let the BJDs spring up how they want to.

    17. When you buy Dolls .. what do you care for the most ?

To get the dolls you like the most without putting the family size as priority or caring for the price?

Yes I care more about how me and my dolls click toghether!

      and why?

It dosen't matter how many dolls I have I care more about if I like the doll or not.

    18. Getting the dolls I want, no matter how long it takes me to save up for them.
To me, a doll really doesn't mean anything special if you don't like the mold, so why waste money on molds you don't particularly care for?

I don't make my dolls into characters and I don't base them around characters, just if they were my real kids. For example, if I think my boy would look good with blonde hair, I will get him blonde hair and I won't ever change his wig. Same with eyes. I treat them like real babies (:

    19. I would only get the dolls I really really want - I would prefer to have a smaller family I love than a whole bunch of random dolls I don't care much for.

    20. To me it's not the quantity but the quality and what I am looking for in a doll. Why buy something you're really not that happy with just to say I own 100 dolls? Money should not be an issue if it's something you really want. I guess what I mean is: "BE HAPPY WITH YOUR PURCHASE AT ANY COST" ;)
