1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Getting a Bigger Family? or Getting the Dolls you like the most?

May 23, 2011

?
  1. To have a bigger family and collect as much as you can from dolls?

  2. To get the dolls you like the most without putting the family size as priority?

    1. I get and enjoy BJD I really love for (Already given or own creation) characters I truly want to have. Getting a big number of them is not a goal at all for me. Their quantity is just the result of how many they happen to be.

    2. Definitely dolls what I like the most. It would be waste of money if you just bought things what you didn't really liked. And buy things what you like but not so much than another doll.
So I buy bjd what I like. But I admit I have almost bought doll just because I had money to buy it. So to me the size of doll collection or family isn't first thing what I think when I buy dolls.

    3. I get the dolls I like, and the dolls who can fit the characters I like. I do have limits to the number of dolls I can have, but I dont go around buying dolls just to "hit" the limit (ie increasing size of my doll family aimlessly). At the same time, price do play a role too even if I like a doll (since I am not rich) so most of the time I try to strike a balance.

    4. My dolls aren't a family anyways. My big boys are representations of different characters from different stories that don't have any connection to each other. The two Tinies - well, I just wanted them. As for how many - I got three big boys now, need to get another big body for my floating Minimee head but then, that's it. When you got a one-room flat with 33 square-meters and are also collecting books, CDs and DVDs, space is really, really limited ...

    5. Dolls I like.... why add a new doll to my family when I dont like them? I dont get a doll for the sake that it's pretty, I get it because I like it and I will play with it. I dont like having too many dolls either, too hassling for me. I rather have a few that I love VS. A dozen that I bought just for having a lot of dolls.

    6. Both! I want a whole apartmentful of dolls, AND I only buy dolls I truly love. :cake:

    7. I'd rather have just the dolls that I love and will pay attention too versus having a large number that would basically be ignored.

    8. Having a big doll collection is not important to me (of course, if it was financially possible I would love to get all the dolls I want, but.. it's not plausible). There are a few specific characters/dolls I have picked out and I'd much rather get them and develop those dolls than simply buy whatever I happen to want at that time. I'm always downsizing my wishlist of dolls only to include the dolls I can absolutely see myself owning, or ones I have characters planned for (or have wanted for the longest period of time).

    9. Owning a big doll collection is impossiple for me, because unfortunately in my home-country I do not earn much enogh to buy every doll I like. So I try to keep to the golden middle - to allow myself only those dolls that impress me most.
The size is important too, and money is certainly a criteria, moreover dolls require a proper place to live - but I would never buy a doll if it was only a way to show off, and not something special for me.

    10. I don't want to have a family that's too big, because they would take up space, cost too much money and time (naturally!) than a smaller family. Like most DoAers, I have a few characters that I want to see come to life, so to speak, and right now I just feel that I don't need more dolls than I have characters.
Of course I only go for dolls I really like! It helps that anything above Yo-SD size doesn't appeal to me much (except that Minifees and Kid Delfs are nice to look at ) so for now, I am quite safe of owning too many! Besides, I don't know if I could 'love' them all the same.... I am not a parent, so I can't tell ^^

    11. Honestly, if I like the doll and it fits my character that I want, I'll just save up for it. But how large my family isn't really what's most important to me.

    12. Sometimes I am taken by the feeling where I want ALL THE DOLLS, but I have had a few pass through that I didnt bond with, so I can squash that feeling pretty quickly. There is a difference between thinking a doll is beautiful and wanting to own it.

    13. When I'm looking at dolls to buy, it's all about what I like. I don't care about "family size". BJDs are too expensive not to be thoroughly considered. If ones just focuses on family SIZE, then they can order as many dolls as they like, but it won't matter if they don't bond with or love them. Then it's just a waste of money, even if you resell them. If you buy dolls you LOVE, you bond, you love, and your family still grows. c:

For me, price is always a factor- I'm a poor university student. xD

    14. I've actually discovered recently that I don't want a lot of dolls. My problem is that I already have too many and there are still sculpts that I feel like I must have. I decided to just start periodically selling older dolls to make room for the newer ones, because otherwise they look too cluttered and I run out of room to display them properly. Plus their boxes take up too much room in my closet! However, price is still a factor. Though my limit has gone up a lot from when I started, I still wouldn't pay over $1000 for just a head, even if it's a head I really love. I just think that once something is that expensive, I'd be too scared of damaging it to enjoy it. I don't like expensive jewelry for the same reason, though in the case of jewelry I'm likely to lose it completely.

    15. I'd say 2. I'd rather have the ones I like the most because It's better for me.

    16. I try to get only the dolls I like the most, the ones I actually 'want to own', and couldn't care less about size. I find it pointless to focus on amount instead of my own likings. What if I bought dolls I didn't like just to reach a number I planned to have? I think I wouldn't enjoy those...

    17. Id Rather Get the doll i like the most then be concerned about the Family size. there my collection i can have as many as i want or i can even have one. i save up the best i can for the ones i want< because i know ill regret it if i don't. i only get the ones i absolutely fall in love with.

    18. Price has never been a big factor in my decisions. I have always been a big believer of getting the dolls that I want, and I'd like to consider myself pretty good at saving for them. Family size never really entered my mind until recently, and that is because I am starting to run out of room to keep them all in. But, I will not consider getting rid of any of the ones I have --I'm fond of them all. But now future doll purchases are dependant on my space limitations, so now I have to be more critical of my doll desires.

    19. Definitly get the dolls I like most. My first doll was pretty expensive in my oppinion, compared to BBB and RS I mean...so I'm obviously willing to save for awhile and get LESS dolls in order to get the dolls I really love.

    20. I have 12 dolls and a head now, however, even though my family has grown I have only got the dolls I truly adore. I'm always looking at new dolls and thing I want them... but I never get them unless I really want them! I also normally finish working on the dolls I have before getting another. If I'm not happy with their faceups then I'll wait until I'm done that, unless it's a limited sculpt...XD

I don't ever pick dolls because they are cheap... Just means I have to wait longer to save up the money.XD
