Getting both genders from a single company?

Aug 8, 2014

    1. Like some others who have posted here, I am much more picky about the girls I like for some reason. It is SO much easier to find guys I like, so they outnumber the girls about six to one. I don't choose the girls just because they are from the same companies as my boys, but aesthetically they look better together, IMO.

Most of my boys are Volks and Dollzone, and so are my girls.

    2. i have a lot more girls than boys and some sculpts/companies just appeal to me more in each gender so i don't really worry about evening out the numbers, just get the dolls that appeal to me in the gender they decide to be (since most of mine are tinies and can be either so the faceup usually makes the decision)

    3. I've done that a few times. I have an EID pair from IpleHouse and a Delf pair from Luts that were specifically picked to go together, and when I got my two Volks YoSDs I knew that I wanted "one of each" with them as well... But I don't feel the need to do that with every company in my collection. I only have a male from Doll Chateau, for instance. I picked a female FectDoll sculpt for his partner. Like him, she's the only doll I have from her particular company.

It really just depends on how well I like the company's sculpts, honestly. For some, I just prefer their take on one gender over the other.

    4. I have a few dolls that are from the same companies of both genders. I also plan on getting a Withdoll girl sometime because I like them. I like the boys I have from them already so I am sure the girls are lovely. I tend to like dolls from the same companies because I do or did like the styles when I got them. It's not always the case. I don't care for Spiritdoll girls, but I really like the one sculpt I got from them. The next doll I have lined up I feel the same way about, only it's a girl.

    5. I only have boy dolls, but I do find that I have a variation of this same "pairing" impulse-- if I get a doll of one size/type from a company, I generally want at least one more of that same type, even if they're not romantic-couples. There are a few companies for whom I've only got 'unmatched' doll(s), but they seem to be the minority.

I find this impulse is even more pronounced with mini-size dolls. I bought Volks SDC Arashi, and pined for many years until I could buy him the perfect SDC best-friend doll-- and when I bought an Iplehouse JID, he felt somehow incomplete until I could buy him another JID companion. When I scored one single DD-Anne Lotus Near, who's an extremely rare art-doll, I had a fantasy of having twins of him-- then surprisingly got the chance a couple years later, and got my twins. And I've got one lone Yo-SD for whom I'm just waiting for Volks to release his BFF (Yo-SD Shiro hasn't been invented yet, but it's just a matter of time!).

But it also affects me when it comes to medium & giant dolls, too. When I first started collecting in 2005 I knew I wanted a whole pack of Volks SD13 Tokyo Boys, and then gathered all their versions along, with a few other SD13s who just look harmonious with the rest. And most recently, I specifically bought a matched-pair of two Iplehouse SIDs in the past 2 years, because I loved their stylistically-similar Cheerful Beefcake aspect (Claude & Lee), which was absolutely perfect for their intended job (they're a pair of pets :3).

    6. I bought IH JID Ryan on the secondhand market in German Forum and now I've ordered a IH JID Asa directly from IH because I think JID can only pair with JID and only from the same company because their style looks more realistic. They might look bad with dolls from other company, I guess so.

    7. I'm actually looking at this right now. I found two different males I like from different companies and so I am searching for a female from the same company (to help me decide what company to go with). Just feels more cohesive in my opinion to have a "set".

    8. I like having a balance between male and female dolls if I can, but I'm not tempted to get a boy and a girl in every size from every company I buy from. My doll collecting is much more random. I see a pretty or handsome doll and I get it, and then I give them a character and story. I do have a vague wish list, but random seems to be more my MO.

    9. I do this. Not the same company always, but the same size.
I like my dolls to pair off.

The only one that isn't paired is Selket....(CP Juri '05), though now with my new girl (Volks Jun T) we will seeeeeeee!

    10. I like getting both genders from a given company because it allows me to pair up my (straight) dolls without worrying that the aesthetics of the sculpts won't match. I haven't done it from every company (Rosette haven't released boys yet!) or in every size (no male Little Gems in my plans yet), but I do have male+female Super Gems and male+female Teenie Gems.

    11. My very first dolls were a pair of MSDs, a boy and a girl, from Custom House. I wanted them to photograph in sets of Romeo and Juliet, Lady and the Highwayman, etc. etc. etc. Haven't purchased another pair, yet.

    12. Like some others, I much prefer boys. I'm much more picky about girls. I don't care a thing about getting one of each from each company... some companies I only like one or two sculpts, or only one type of body, or whatever. I just get what I like, no matter whether I like any others from that company or not. And somehow they all manage to work together perfectly in my eyes. Sometimes they end up paired up, sometimes not. And that's totally OK.

I do however have a boy and a girl (and another boy, and a smaller boy, and a larger boy) all in variations of the same sculpt!

    13. My apologies. I started this the day before I left for Egypt. I feel guilty not keeping up with a thread I started.

But please! Tell me how!! I have so much trouble finding clothes for guys!! I want more but most of my clothes is for girls. My poor boy dolls have so little!! Abd

    14. I don't feel like I need a male and female from the same company. For example, I like the female minifees but not the males, so I would not get a male from Fairyland.

    15. I'm a bit of a mix in this area, for me it depends on the company if I wanna get both genders. Like at the moment I would love to get the moe boy body from Fairyland to go with my Rin, but I'm not interested in a lady luts girl for my luts boy so yea....

    16. Only with my married couple, we wanted his wife to be the same scale and proportions. The other guys are a bit easier size wise to find ladies for.

    17. Some of my dolls don't have pairings, so boys and girls, it doesn't really matter. The ones that DO have pairings, I mostly buy from the same company (Luts) however, I really only buy from two companies anyway... (Luts and Soom) and their sculpts tend to look semi-similar that they fit in very nicely together. I have one Angell Studio doll, but she looks so similar in style to my Luts dolls, that it won't matter when she gets a Luts boyfriend in the future. It's important to me that my dolls have a similar style, however it's also the look that I happen to really LOVE, so that's what I buy. While I like other styles, I just like this style the best, so of course, it's what I'm going to buy.

I was kind of talking about this with my friend over IM yesterday. She said she knows what she wants when it comes to dolls, and I said that you kind of have to be a little picky in this hobby because of the price of the dolls. We can't (usually) afford to be buying every doll that we think is pretty. I think by limiting ourselves in ways, it prevents us from going COMPLETELY crazy with buying/spending.

I mean, to be honest, I would seriously be happy with almost every Soom or Luts doll that's been made. They could come into my doll family and fit right in. I could make a character for them and it would be awesome. However, I don't have the money or the space to make this a reality, so I have to make some very picky decisions about what dolls I wish to buy. And this is also the reason why I'm only currently obsessed with two companies. It's for my own sanity. LOL.

To answer the question more specifically (I kind of got off topic), Here are the dolls that have same company pairings and different company pairings:

      Different:
Luts SDF Noelia + (Future) Soom Mega Gem
Angell Studio Kara SP + (Future) Luts Delf Joe

      Same:
Luts KDF Lolly + Luts KDF Maska
Luts KDF Summery 10 + Luts Cherry

    18. My dolls were all girls until my DollZone Kane rabbit. He's the pesky little brother that Amelie Leona, a Pipos Curo never asked for or wanted.

my Blue Fairy TF Jasmine, Violette, is the regular girl body, as she's a "late bloomer" like I was. When I decided she "needed" a boyfriend I looked first at Blue Fairy. I think the Gentle Body option, a different sort of face/demeanor, from Violette and he won't look like a brother. The Jasmine sculpt strikes me as very pensive and reserved. The Nicky sculpt makes me think he's a bit of a prankster and more outgoing.

So tl:dr, they don't have to be from the same company, but coming from the same company makes it a bit easier for the aesthetics/overall look to compliment one another.

I love over how my Pipos look they belong in the same family.

    19. I don't usually want a boy and a girl doll from the same company for the sake of having a matching set. I am seriously thinking of getting a boy and girl from dolleshe - but they won't be a couple.

I want a DS David for my LS QingLi. :aheartbea

    20. I have a boy and girl from Doll Chateau. (Dolores and Christina) I bought them as a couple. They have the weird extra joints and their proportions are odd. Perfect with each other. But would maybe not be so perfect with a doll from another company.
