1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Getting that Dream Doll

Oct 17, 2021

    1. I had a very similar reaction to my first doll. I obsessed over her for over a month before I found her second hand through a dealer.

Once I got her, I felt sort of cold towards her. I think it was because she had no clothes and the wigs I bought her looked nothing like the fullset I fell in love with. It didn't help that she was loosely strung and yellowed from her time on display, but I think I was in love with the beautiful company photos and not so in love with the actual product. I felt bad that my first doll, the doll I wanted enough to try something new, just didn't do it for me in the long run. I think a lot of people romanticize your "first," and I felt pressured to keep this doll I didn't really want.

I passed her on to a friend and have since gone through quite a few dolls. Funnily enough, some of the dolls I like the most are dolls I bought on impulse and some of the dolls I eventually sold were ones that I was super excited about. I'm not quite sure why that is.

It's okay to be disappointed in your first doll, even if it's your "dream" doll. They're just dolls, hunks of resin, and they only have meaning if you give it to them. Don't beat yourself up because reality didn't line up with your or other people's expectations. If you like dolls, you like them. If you find yourself not finding in the hobby what you're looking for, that's fine too.

    2. Back in 2016 I managed to get my hands on a Dust of Dolls Zouh Spun. I still have her, but I won't lie and say that her appeal has died on me as the years have gone by. I made a lot of compromises for this doll: Her resin had been dyed a dark purple and the previous owner had broken the tip of one of her ears and replaced it with epoxy. Do I regret it? In some ways, but it's so hard to come across these that I'm still really glad I have the chance to own one. Besides her, I've never really had another dream doll except save for some of Merry Doll Round's sculpts.
