Glossed lips, yes or no?

Jul 15, 2019

    1. Depends on how the doll is styled, in my opinion.
I prefer the lips not to be too glossy. Too glossy lips just look wet in my opinion instead of looking like lipstick.

    2. I love glossed lips! Mostly because I wear lots of lip gloss. I also think its a nice finishing touch on a doll especially if they are not wearing a matte lipstick.

    3. I prefer lightly glossed and very little when no make up natural look.

    4. I use the gloss on both their lips and along the eye rims, I think the touch of gloss on the rim of the eyes makes the eyes look more moist and natural, same for the lips, and inside the mouth if the dolls mouth is open.

    5. Glossy :) they look more cute and kissable imo ;)

    6. Too much gloss definitely looks bizarre, I'll give you that.

I prefer my dolls to be highly stylized, and a little bit of gloss can go a long way. But there are times when the light will catch at an awkward angle and the gloss looks really silly. That's usually when I change my photo angle or move the doll's head!

One of my boys doesn't have glossed lips and I think that suits him pretty well. Everyone else is glossy and fabulous, though.

    7. Generally no for me, but most of my dolls are men of 30+ and pretty scruffy, so it doesn’t really suit them.

    8. ^_^ glossy lips fit lovely and bright dolls while matte lips fit sexy and mature dolls.
It really depends, just choose what you like.

    9. I'm good either way depending on the doll. I used to be 100% pro gloss on everyone, but when I first did the faceup on my very favorite doll, I was in such a hurry to get him done (he'd been a floating head for months while I waited on a body) I forgot to gloss him. I didn't even notice until days later (forgot eyelashes too XD). He has seven heads now and none are glossed. It's become an option for me, not a definite yes.

    10. I like lightly glossed lips. As others have said, it gives a different texture.

    11. i personally love a gloss and matte finish! but usually i like gloss with super light and super dark colors and matte for everything in between haha.

    12. I love them but not all of my dolls need them. I think I only really love the high-gloss super shiny lips when it’s obvious they’re wearing lipstick. But a little bit of gloss when they’re going sans lipstick can look nice too.

    13. I like at least some gloss like satin. It seems more natural to me since matte lips seem too dry for me while glossy lips look like makeup was applied which can work too. It also adds a texture difference which adds dimension like what others have said.

    14. I don't like either full gloss or no gloss unless the faceup is meant to look like makeup. No gloss at all looks too matte to me - it looks like those super-matte lipsticks.

For "natural" faceups I prefer a slight coat of watered down gloss to give a delicate satin finish.

    15. I did something similar with my dolls as well. I also forgot gloss on one of my doll face ups I painted and now I am okay without gloss on curtain dolls.

    16. Glossed lips are almost a must in my opinion! It makes the face look a bit more adorable and I live for it

    17. I personally prefer the glossed lips. I really like the sheen, and the way it makes the colour pop. Especially for paler/natural coloured lips it gives them juuust a little extra edge against the rest of the face.

    18. I always do a layer of light gloss to lips and eyeline. Anywhere I think should look "wet". Though I really do mean a very LIGHT layer to lips. Just enough to make them look less dry and matte but not enough to look all lip glossed as most of my dolls are boys anyway and it'd be a bit jarring.

I like the soft look it gives. The lips don't shimmer or shine, but they just look a bit more finished to my eye than they do with just a layer of sealant. Lips should look soft and moist, not wet and not dry.

The eyeline serves a double purpose, it protects the paint when you shove eyes in lol.

Quite often i'll do a layer of gloss over something that needs protecting more than I feel regular sealant can give, then spray sealant over the top to matte it down again. I dunno if it actually helps but it makes me feel better.

I'll apply thicker gloss to lipstick of course, but even then, it's a fairly light layer. I don't really like that "wet juicy lip" look on people, let alone dolls hahaha.

    19. Personally I much prefer satin or semi-matte lips, especially for male dolls since I like natural face up on male dolls. Glossy finish looks gorgeous on full, deep colour (eg red, burgundy) lips imo. Matte lips....idk, to me it feels like the face up is not finished.

    20. I like glossy lips for female dolls.
