Glossed lips, yes or no?

Jul 15, 2019

    1. I prefer a more "makeup-less" look, but sometimes the gloss just works perfectly on a doll. So I guess for me it just all depends on if it goes well with the rest of the face and the overall tone.

    2. I like all kinds of finishes for lips depending on the face-up! I can appreciate a very powdery matte look all the way to a mirror gloss, interference shimmer, glitter lips or metallic, just like human makeup and face painting of all kinds! But if one of my dolls is glossed, I don't ever like to let the gloss run into the corners of the mouth.

    3. Mostly gloss! I love the shine and really love lipgloss in real life too.

    4. My faceups I've always used gloss but my favorites that I see seem to be the ones without.

    5. I would say gloss as it makes the doll more real/alive because it looks like moisture, as if the doll just licked her own lips (so it's definitely drool, uh...). Even without this feeling, it's aesthetically a feast for the eyes and Lady Ravenswood's pic is indeed eye candy as I do want to eat them.

I read "satin" finish here multiple time. I don't see what it is referring to? Could someone give me some visual examples, please?

    6. I love glossy lips, especially very glossy lips! All my dolls have glossy lips and I love adding that layer of gloss to them >:3

    7. Glossy lips al the way! The lips can be my favourite part of the faceup if done right. No gloss looks too 'dry' A light gloss adds dimension. I also like gloss on the eye waterline.

    8. It really depends for me. I think I prefer matte for very natural or very edgy looks, and gloss for more glamorous looks.

    9. @Sechs It's between matte and glossy. Very slightly shiny.

    10. Ok, and it's made using a specific product or is it just a special gloss, or normal but diluted?

    11. There are satin finishes, and you can also mix matte and gloss to get a finish to your liking. The latter is what I usually do.

    12. I love glossy lips all the way. Gives the lips more "fuller" and less dry feeling. Especially darker lips with glossy look are gorgeous. :love I love doing bit of gloss also in the eye "corner" area (I don't know how to explain"), because it gives the eye "wet" look. However, I think matte finish looks pretty nice on some characters - but for my own dolls I prefer doing glossy/satin finish.

    13. I use a soft, satiny gloss on lips. I don't like the hard "candy shell" gloss that makes them look like they've been laminated, but a satin-like sheen is more attractive to me.

    14. I tend to go for satin-y. Not a glassy smooth gloss, but not matte.

    15. I prefer matte for more natural look

    16. Depends on the look, but usually, I prefer more matte looks than gloss. :)

    17. Personally I love a bit of gloss, I like the little glint it gets from the light, I just prefer the lips to look slightly glossy to completely matte as it gives a little depth :3nodding:

    18. It depends.
But in my case it's a no at the moment because glossy lips will look weird on my male characters.

    19. yes, it looks nice

    20. Depends on the doll in my opinion. I only really like it for the really feminine aesthetics and I think it looks a little weird on more masculine dolls. Even then I'm for a more minimal gloss if at all. Even in my own makeup I've always been one for a matte lipstick haha.
