1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Guilt about other hobbies that bit the dust when you found BJDs?

Jun 13, 2013

    1. bagofspiders ~ Tattoos, music, and dolls; sounds like my kind of person. ;)

      Tappi, chanarivka, and Kirakukami ~ So far, I think it's totally worth it, too!

      ChibiBel, Calabri, and Chibi_Rat ~ I think it's great that you can organize everything so well, and that diving into this hobby has expanded other fields for you!

    2. Nah, not really. Before dolls the only thing I really did was go to a lot of concerts and after a while of that I decided I didn't enjoy the atmosphere as much as I did a few years ago. (And the money for VIP meet and greet stuff wasn't worth it.)

      I'm still drawing, though... so if anything, my dolls have made me want to draw more and create things for them. :blush

    3. Yes and no. I started getting out of the ren faire scene for a lot of reasons, dolls were just one of them. It was more due to the fact that I no longer worked at them and got real jobs where I worked most of the weekend. I just didn't have the energy left to go out on my only day off. Dolls, however, took up the money I would have been spending on garb so they did play their part.

    4. Uhh... I don't think I've quit any other hobbies. In fact, I'd say my writing has eclipsed BJDs, but I see it as a good thing, because writing is free, lol! (Except for buying books on writing). The older I get (I'm 24 now, so not exactly that old, lol!) the more I see that time is a more valuable commodity than money. I would say allocating time is more pressing an issue for me than allocating cash. The nice thing about my doll is that I can sit it beside me and write. Two birds, one stone :D Hahaha.

      I have, however, fallen out of love with anime/manga, but I think it's because the average anime storyline seems to be aimed towards 12-18 year olds (there are exceptions, but in general). The stories tend to be too juvenile to interest me anymore.

      But no question, the majority of my money goes to dolls, while the majority of my free time goes to writing.

    5. I do not have guilt because I didn't like dolls in the first place... I was surprised at myself of how I became attached to BJD since I do not like dolls. so the good part is I did not abandon any dolls.

    6. I never really was into dolls (except in my childhood when I liked barbies >.>) but other than that I never really liked them...until I found out about BJDs and then I had always wanted one lol. Well, I'd have to say that the hobbies I have never really "bit the dust" but just got pushed back a bit more. I'm now a little less into cosplay than I was before but still do it and I think about anime a bit less now instead of dolls...that does not stop me from reading and watching anime stuffs though every other day or so haha. So they have just been pushed back a bit but have not been completely outed.

    7. I love how so many people found or expanded on other creative outlets through their BJDs! I'm also noticing a lot of common interests - Renaissance, writing, anime/manga, cosplay, etc. I took a day recently to indulge in one of my other hobbies, and I have to say that I found I enjoyed myself just as much as I had three months ago (before really finding my way onto DoA). So I'm happy to make this little discovery about myself, that I can be interested in more than one thing at a time, ha! :lol:

    8. No I don't feel really guilty, I did stop playing a sport, but I am much more happy sewing and taking photos for my BJD.

    9. I totally dumped figure collecting. After all, why bother with figures I cant really play with or pose as much as even the least posable doll. Do I regret it? heck no! It almost makes me wish I could get rid of the figures I still have even xD I don't really regret having ever collected figures though, as it is directly responsible for my doll collecting. Despite this viewpoint, I treat my dolls much better than simply expensive figures, unlike some people I know (and who manage to afford doing both still) >.<;

    10. I used to draw my characters a lot. I have an art background and I went to art school, so drawing and digital art were very important to me and my main passion and hobby. Once I started taking pictures of dolls and more and more I embodied them, I completely stopped drawing. I haven't done one final artwork since I graduated from university and I rather photograph my dolls than sit with a paper and draw.

      I feel very guilty because art could have been my future, whereas taking pic of my pretties really doesn't take me anywhere lol
