Has owning a Doll inspired you?

Jan 7, 2013

    1. Well, owing a ball joint doll definitely inspired me a lot!! I think it is the perfect hobby for me as I love them so much, I am interested in sewing already and by making clothes for them do really get me doing the research (looking at dolls and fashion magazines) in order to improve my work and fashion sense(I am bad at that!!:doh), and getting all the wigs and shoes and accessories for them(on the way of becoming a shopaholic!?):fangirl:. They are always in my mind when I see smaller things that I think they can use:XD:

I also like others learn how to did face-ups for them and care for them using protective sprays:chibi Not to mention about photography!! I also get my first DSLR like Cat Grenade, a Nikon D3000 because I wanna take better photos of my dolls!! This includes learning how to take good photos, post them better and taking them out for outdoor pictures!!:kitty1 Through the stories we create, they came alive in our mind and through photos:) I really enjoy their company wiv me cuz they are all abt things that I really like and enjoy doing!! I know this hobby will stay wiv me for a lifetime:daisy:daisy

    2. My first doll is on the way right now. I am so excited for her to get here but I had no clothes for her! She inspired me, in all of my excitement to find/make her some clothes. I altered a porcelain doll dress to fit an SD and I handmade my first piece of doll clothing. I make her a cute, grey cardigan. I'm sewing the buttons on now. I've always wanted to learn to sew for myself and already had some pretty basic knowledge, but didn't have the motivation to use my skills. I am much better than I thought, too. I didn't even need a pattern and it turned out very well for a first try! <3333

I also am getting back into character drafting, and faceup art, which, though I have never done one on a bjd, I have on vinyl fashion dolls of ever sort. I'm more than excited to try my hand on an SD sized bjd!

    3. Owning dolls has inspired me a great deal! Like a lot of other people I have learned and taken an interest in sewing (something I haven't really done since junior high) since getting my gang, and then I have also started to learn to do body blushing and face ups, which reawakened my passion for painting. My story writing has improved as well and as a writer that is always a good thing. My boys fill me with joy and allow me to be creative no matter what aspect of them I am dealing with and for that, to me, is how I justify paying so much for them.

    4. I sew a lot more now due to my dolls. Trying to do face-ups, but I'm still pretty bad at them.

    5. I knew I had to finally get competent with my sewing machine when I got to the point that I had to make my own doll clothes.

My dolls have made me learn photography, a work in progress, and they also helped me work out the basics for a story I'd been fiddling with for years.

    6. Owning a doll has definitely gotten me into photography. I was not the least bit interested beside taking the occasional snapshot but owning a doll made me actually take 2 university classes to learn photography skills and she inspires me to take photos and get better at it.
I've also been inspired to learn to paint, not for face-ups though (I don't trust myself with that), so that I can paint miniature paintings for her future home.
I already had an interest in miniatures (both making and finding them) but having dolls has made me more aware to the possible in-scale props at random places.

    7. Other than to figure out a brand-new story and characters for them, no.

I was already an artist, already did a lot of crafts, loved photography, enjoyed sewing, designing... so all that changed was more of a 'do something in 1/3 size' approach that was added haha.

That's fine though, because dolls do give me something very precious: the feeling of being able to actually see my OCs right there in front of me, and touch them and all that; it's wonderful!

    8. I feel like having BJDs has really inspired me wrt photography and fashion! I'm also hoping to learn to sew soon, just so that I can make clothing for my dolls. :)

    9. A lot of people are saying it inspired them to either start sewing or get back to sewing. Same with me. I hadn't sewn for dolls in a long time. I used to sew for Barbie, and really enjoyed it, but hadn't done that in several years.
It's so nice to get back to it. It's a lot more enjoyable than sewing for people or for myself. I get a great deal of satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment from finishing a small project, because I like seeing results quickly.

I'm in the process of making pajamas for each of my dolls, consisting of flannel pajama bottoms and tee shirts. Each of my dolls also has a stuffed animal they sleep with.

I also used to do quilting. I don't have the space to work on a full size quilt, but I do have the space to do doll quilts. I'm thinking of doing a patchwork quilt for my MSD girl. The colors she wears are blue and white, and I'm starting to pick out fabrics for her quilt in those colors.

It may sound corny, but sewing for my dolls and also just having the dolls with me is very therapeutic. I've had a lot of tragedy in my life for the past 15 years, and My dolls are helping me to heal. Sewing for them and even buying things for them makes me really happy.

    10. I never thought about this before!
But that's right, I learn a lot of things in order of taking cre of my dolls. It inspired me for making both faceup and tattos, but also wigs, outfit and some accessories.
Painting tattoos and faceup is very rewarding. Sewing (or making a lace wig) is more like... relaxing. It keep the hands busy and loosens up the mind!

    11. Yes! Definitely!
Owning my first BJD has made me want to make progress craft-wise. I want to learn how to do so much whether it be from modding and sewing right to photography and backdrops!
