Has there ever been one part of a doll that made you not buy it?

    1. It can really be anything. For example, I loved this second hand doll until I saw her face sculpt. Cute outfit, body is in good condition for the price range- annnd she has a nightmare born anime horror spawned orgasm face with red sharpie coloring in the mouth. I wish I could have bleached my brain.

    2. YES. It's always how the sculpt looks in full profile. There have been countless sculpts I love facing forward or in 3/4ths view, but I hate them from the side. That's, for some reason, a complete deal breaker for me. Bodies I care less about because if a doll is a bad poser, I can always replace the body and sell off the old one.

    3. Yeah. For me the biggest thing i've learned through some trial and error are the elbow and knee joints. that and the side profile of the doll. I've found 9 times outa 10, if there isn't a profile view of the sculpt, It's probably shown that way for a reason. (I'm terribly picky about noses tho)

    4. So I'm really wierd. I love company photos but some have been utterly disappointing.

I'm weirder about owner photos though, like if someone is selling. No matter how much I want the doll, if it's not done properly, body blushing/tattoos/ faceups will keep me from buying that sculpt from someone. It's nothing against them at all, but erasing lots of work just to do a doll how you want it is frustrating so I'd rather they get loved by someone else and I'll wait until another pops up (UNLESS it is an extreme rarity of course.)

Otherwise, it's mostly the annoyance company wise that the dolls almost never match what company photos look like.

Sometimes it's something about the facial features owners show from all aspects that make me change my mind too.

    5. What happens for me often is I'll love the sculpt, the body - until I see the body has hip joints (or what I call underwear joints). I enjoy displaying my dolls nude/in translucent clothing so it's imperative for me that my dolls have aesthetically pleasing joints and joint placements, and hip joints just make dolls look so unappealing to me. I've had to pass on so many cute dolls because of this :(

    6. I love anime, but I am not a big fan of chibis or chibi faces. Like, I understand that some people love it, but I am not one of those people.

    7. Gosh...I feel like there have been so many beautiful dolls that have wonderful bodies and faces and then...their boobs are just so huge and just don't look like they fit. or they're weirdly squished together...Basically just boobs :P But I'm so picky about them! Most of my dolls are male or small-chested for that reason.

    8. Yes I have passed over many dolls due to the face, but the body is very important as well and if it doesn't pose or stand well I will definitely not buy it.

    9. TEEETH! Oh lord Teeth! There have been so many dolls that I adore until I hit the angle where I can see they have teeth! I know its such a silly thing but its usually a HUGE deal breaker for me. Short of it being an adorable little kid with teeth I need to be able to hide them with a face up or I just can't have it X.x

    10. I have a few things - a mix of a few other people's things haha

The orgasm face - I'll love everything else about the doll, but cannot stand the face, and the owner won't separate the body from the head.

The boobs - again, everything else I love, even the faceup, but then the boobs are just too large or pointy or weird for me

Then there's been a handful of dolls where I love everything about it, except the owner has put tattoos on it - I'm not against tattoos, I plan on adding tattoos to one of my own dolls, but I don't want to have to remove and add different ones if it's a tattoo I don't like (cursing, middle finger ones, and just unpleasant words besides cursing, to name a few)

I actually almost bought a doll recently with a faceup I'd want to change a part of - but the listing vanished when I went to go back to it I had left it for 10 minutes and came back and it was gone - so I guess that kept me from buying it haha

Edit to add: I just saw someone posted this and yes - teeth! I'm eyeing a sculpt atm and a lot of people get teeth as part of the faceup, and for some reason I can't stand the teeth

    11. AoD female elbows are my least favorite thing! They're pointy! Pointy! The dolls are otherwise very lovely with nice resin and great prices but THOSE ELBOWS

    12. The body needs to match the head. So many times I will see a gorgeous head, but then the body it comes on just doesn't work for it. I think my biggest issue with this is is baby or teen faces on clearly adult bodies. Its especially bad with boy sculpts. Just tiny little soft boy face on a shredded muscular body...its such a big no for me.

    13. There's lots of things that keep me from buying most dolls, otherwise how would I choose the ones I really do want?

For bodies, the one big turn off for me is ugly knee joints. It's hard when I see a full doll that is otherwise beautiful but have knees where the cap is in the wrong place or the bend is too sharp that it looks unpleasing when bent.

For faces, it can be a number of things. One big turn-off is really uneven eyes. I don't mind some quirk but if one is much higher than the other than it's a nope. Also, if there are teeth, they to be in good proportion to the face. I've sold along two heads where the teeth were so small you could see as many as six teeth at the front of a barely open mouth. Like creepy little cat teeth. nope nope nope (the exception being DZ Carter, he's allowed to have creepy teeth)

    14. One-piece torsos.

In recent years Volks insists on putting their Limited Edition and One-Off SD girls on their one-piece torso. Yes, it's pretty, but I don't like the posing -- or lack thereof. They seem to prefer a passive, dolly-like body style, but I want my doll to be able to properly sit up and stand up.

    15. I've passed over a few dolls because they have the balloon boobs that just look like someone just put two melons under their shirt.

Other times I'll just pass over a perfectly nice sculpt because either the photo's lighting isn't very good and just makes the whole thing feel kinda dingy or the faceup just really isn't my style and I don't like the sculpt quite enough to want to re-do it.

    16. I like being picky with dolls. It helps me save space and money.

I'm very picky about doll breasts. I prefer natural looking over torpedo, coconut halves, and "if you weren't a doll the size would give you horrific back pain." While I did have a torpedo chested doll, I hid this figure with unfitted clothing, and eventually had a customizer give her a mastectomy.

While open mouths look good on some dolls, they're still for other people.

I'm on the hunt for my first ever boy doll. It's imperative he be have a natural looking body and be in scale with one of my girls. Unfortunately 70cm guys are very in right now and it's a headache finding an adult looking body suited for 60cm. I've given up on finding a body that isn't shredded, and am searching for one that is plausible.

    17. Open mouths. With a few exceptions, they just give the doll a vapid, mouth-breather look that I can't stand. Even just recently, when I was trying to decide between two similar sculpts to determine which I wanted to order, the deal-breaker for the one that lost was when I found a photo from an angle showing it had that slack-jawed vacant open mouth (at least it was easy once I found that photo?). My only exceptions are the excited open-mouth CP sculpts like Pong and Reni, that have an actual expression, not just a vague empty look.

    18. I think my biggest deal breaker for heads would be open mouths and visible teeth (excluding fangs). There are a few sculpts I really like but just wish so badly that their mouths were closed and then teeth always look so unappealing to me..
With bodies it would have to be those awful hip/underwear joints and chest joints that fully show under the boobs. Also waist joints are an absolute no. Basically if the body isn't aesthetic, I don't want it haha.

    19. Volks' ancient MSD body stopped me from getting a FCS MSD-11 in like... 2007? Maybe early 2008... I couldn't stand the chubby hands, but I loved the head! Unfortunately she got discontinued in 2009, and I wasn't able to get one until this year. Still on the chonky childish body, but at this point, I'd probably be looking to upgrade from a single-jointed body anyway.

    20. I mod dolls, so boobs in a shape I don't like or the body not being able to sit upright is often fixable for me, but there's a few things I can't stand for my personal collection- just a matter of taste. Certain kinds of double joints shaped like this: [ where you basically end up with two knees and two elbows will prevent me from hitting Order. For my dolls I'd rather have them less poseable than have that kind of joint. I might never see it when they're clothed in looser stuff but I'd know it's THERE.
