1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever been to a doll meet up?

Apr 18, 2022

    1. Before Covid I was going to as many as four meet ups a year, 2 in WI and 2 in Chicago. We were cutting down to one each, but then Covid and we went to zero for 2 years. Now slowly getting back to one each. Which is great as we are careful, but do have a couple of high risk people and we want them safe too. But I missed seeing my friends.

    2. Back in the day (2009-2015 or so) we used to have them pretty often. There were a couple places we'd go; one was an antique shop and tea house. We had a couple of outings up to a small amusement part called Enchanted Forest, and I even organized a couple myself. Often a couple of the locals would host at their homes; one member's Christmas gathering was always a fun time. But over the years, the group kinda thinned out and some of use lost touch or moved away. I only know of a couple of people still around anymore, so I don't know of any local meet-ups these days.

    3. Most anime conventions have meetups! That’s where I went to my first one at Anime North 2022

    4. I've never been to a BJD meetup, but years ago when I was deeply involved with the Barbie collecting community, there were regular meetups and also two different Barbie clubs I belonged to. I really enjoyed It. The clubs were especially fun because every month was a different theme, and we would dress our dolls according to the theme. We also did portable dioramas which we brought and set up at the meetings.

There were also what we called doll shows (the term "meetup" hadn't been used)., which were where people set up tables to sell their dolls and doll related items. I sold at these shows quite often. It was a lot of fun.
I don't know if I would do the same with my BJDs, since they are more delicate than Barbies and more valuable. I would be too afraid of damage or theft. I was fine with people handling my Barbies, since they were all the "played with" variety, but I'm not comfortable with people handling my bjds.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention the yearly Barbie conventions. A different club would sponsor the convention every year. Clubs from all over the US would participate. I attended for about 10 years starting in 1983. Since they were held all over the US, I got to visit cities I never would have been to otherwise.
My own club hosted the convention here in southern California in 1989. It was huge and a lot of work, but so much fun. I miss those times, but I'm no longer in the Barbie world, so I've lost track of the people.

    5. I've only been to a doll meetup/panel when they were at Otakon. I know there used to be some happening before covid in my area but lack of rides made it impossible for me to get to.

    6. I have not, but i want to go to one so bad. But not many meet ups on east coast USA

    7. I often meet people who like dolls like me, talk about doll topics, and take pictures together. It is quite a fun experience to enjoy hobbies together because we met through BJD.
We often give narratives to dolls and take pictures that fit the concept. This is another way to enjoy dolls, and it seems to make you enjoy your hobby more passionately.
