1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever found “the One”?

Jun 24, 2024

    1. So far KDF Kai has been the only one that made me feel so strongly that I had to get him. He sorta dragged me down the BJD rabbit hole too. :XD:So far, of the other dolls I ordered, I also really like them but they haven't given the same effect as Kai. Maybe because he is my first doll its different?:huh?:

    2. I think the "ones" for me were my Volks DWC-01 head on an SDgr girl body. And my Hijikata SD17 boy. Both were the first dolls for me in that size/body style. The SD17 boy body looks so good in manly clothes. I made him 3 suits before putting him away. I don't mind the wiggle knees -he never got upgraded.

And the DWC-01 head is great. Like most of the Lucai/school head family, very adaptable boy or girl face -mine is definitely more feminine and came with a kick-a$% faceup with red lips that i hope never wears out. She changes character dramaticly depending on how she's wigged, dressed and posed...

    3. I think so ^w^ My oldest doll, the one I fell in love with first, a hybrid Narae 412, has been "the one" for me for 13 years. She was a lucky find and her joyful expression has helped me go through a lot when I was becoming a young adult and she's the shell that I identify with myself even if she has her own character in her story-line, so I'm very attached to her.

    4. yes! as soon as my ap type-s boy came in i've been obsessed with him. i might sell some of my other dolls because they're so neglected in comparison

    5. I got my Whale Tower Rafayeh last November and I've basically abandoned all my other dolls since then. She's now the doll in my collection with the most photos, despite being one of the newest, and she's the one that brings me the most comfort when I need a doll friend to hang out with. She's just... perfect.
I feel a little bad, so I do try to take my other dolls out and play with them sometimes, but they just can't beat my cool little dragon buddy! It's getting to the point where I'm debating on whether I should use the money I saved up for SD16 Diamond on her...or on commissioning a plushie of my dragon instead so I can cuddle her even more. It's bad, yall. :XD:

    6. Mine would have to be DollZone's Little Snow :aheartbea Initially when I first dipped my toe in the hobby I searched on Etsy for dolls and found a Recast for sell. Thanks to the community I was informed about where to buy legit dolls, and while I was disheartened to fall in love with a recast, I found the real model while browsing Alice's collection by surprise and my heart lept!

I was put off by the wait times initially and held off on ordering one for awhile, believing I would move on. A year passed and my partner asked me for gift ideas for Christmas and Little Snow came back to my mind. And like kismet, A_Zuri here had a beautiful tanned resin Little Snow for sale and let me adopt her.

She is my one and only at the moment but it brings me so much joy to have her as a desk companion. She has several wigs, dresses, and a couple of wait listed custom outfits in progress. She really feels like my first love when it comes to dolls. Thanks so much for letting me gush :aheartbea

    7. This is a very interesting question that made me think about many things.
On one hand I don't feel maybe like I have found the one, because even at those points where I thought I found the one it did last for so long and then it didn't work out eventually in the end, so then I guess they were not the one? I had a doll for more than 10 years I thought she certainly would be one of the ones but then her sculpt got small for her and I changed it for another doll and kept her character, and this has happened more than that one time. At the same time, if you asked me then I would have said they were the one.
On the other hand, I feel like as years pass I pay less attention to the marketplace or new releases as how I did when I started when I just liked and wanted everything, my head would spin because there was too much stuff to pick one from. I still think there is a phase when getting a new doll that makes that doll the centre or it's the one that you gravitate towards continuously (right now it's my joydoll Lai since I got his body recently and he's complete), but I wouldn't say this is the result of a doll making me like that and more just narrowing over the years what I want or like or I'm looking for when it comes to dolls.
I've also had times when I thought X doll completed the group but then time passes and things change.

I think overall over the years I go on "polishing" my collection and I hope to get to a point where all the dolls I have are the ones. I feel I'm slowly getting there. When I look at the doll after so much time and I still think they're perfect and they have nothing to improve I feel like they're one of "the ones" and I always hope that doesn't change but time will tell.
I usually blame it on new sculpts that look more like what I had in mind originally, or bodies that pose better than what I have. Posing is one of the things that makes me go very quickly from "I thought you were the one" to "nope".

    8. Haha, I feel like I’m sharing this everywhere online! Yes, I’ve always had my dreams set on THE one sculpt from Dreamofdoll. No other sculpt has resonated with me as deeply as I-ra, E-an, and Tender E-an. Since the moment I first saw I-ra, you can call it the love of my life in terms of resin children :XD:

There has been no other sculpts I truly wanted since I first laid my eyes on I-ra .Unfortunately, when I discovered DOD, she was already sold out a few years prior. I became obsessed with DOD and to my luck E-an was the same but with human ears! I saved up and ordered one and my E-an has been with me ever since, and now I-ra is on her way to me!:...(

I also remember saving up money around the mid-2010s for Tender E-an, only to be heartbroken when I learned they were no longer in business. One day I might chase after this tender moment, even just the head would be fine.

    9. In a way, yes! I am very much interested in making more BJD purchases in the future, but I somehow think that nothing can beat Mori 9s Lyra for me. His facial features are exactly what I've longed for in a BJD ever since I got into the hobby.

    10. Oh yeah!

I collected for years, and I’ve loved many dolls. Some I consider true works of art, and I’d never give them up. But fairly recently, I fell HARD for ATS Sins Gluttony. The moment I saw him, it was like getting hit by a truck. My first thought was, ‘That’s him. He’s…perfect.’ I haven’t even got him a faceup yet, but I’ve got him propped up next to my bed where I can stare at him. His features are ideal to me.

Will that stop me from buying more dolls? Absolutely not. But if all of my beautiful guys were suddenly made real and brought to life, he’d be the one I’d marry.

    11. Yes, but she's off-topic, so I'm posting her with my other dolls.

      Shelving dolls

She's on the left. She's 180 cm or six feet tall.
If you told me I could never buy another BJD, I would be OK - cuz I have Iris.

    12. Honestly either Iplehouse Felix or the DikaDoll 73cm (v2) body. I loved my Felix the moment I got him and I really fell in love with Iplehouse as a company, so much so I bought a couple more Iples. My original "grail doll" was my Iplehouse Luo whom I also love but I had him as a head only first as that was the only way I could get hold of him secondhand. Felix was my first full Iple - who made me cave and finally search for an EID body for the Luo head.

Now with the DikaDoll body I got that for my Simply Divine Thomas head and although it was a fuss with the color match. I ended up very happy with the doll. I love that body and its poseability, and shape so much that I ended up getting another one for my IOS Anima head. I would probably buy another one in the future too if DikaDoll keeps making it. Also at the time I ordered DikaDoll sent it out in about a fortnight so short wait times ftw!

    13. Oh I love my Felix too. So much that I think to get him in mini size as well just because :XD:

    14. @Fyrwenn Awww your Felix is lovely! <3 What I love with Felix also is he can always look so different depending on how he is styled. The faceup on yours is really lovely too… is it the Iple default one? ^^

    15. Yeah, it's iple faceup, but I paid just little extra and asked them to paint him like his fashion doll version, so they added a bit of freckles, blush and shades. Still doesn't look like his fashion version, but this look grew on me, so its fine :D
Felix is very versatile, I always love to see other versions of him, so if you have photo of yours attach too please :3

    16. It's been 4 months since my Mina came home... My greatest fear when I made the order was that the novelty would wear off and I would have drifted away from her. But I love her a little more every day, she's so precious... I'll love my other dolls too, or I wouldn't have considered having them, but I feel that Mina will always have a special place in my heart.

    17. It's funny to think about it now, but my "the one" doll was really my first BJD ever, a Volks SD10 Kun. Totally standard, straight from the Volks USA Torrance store when they had a physical store you could visit in California with a showroom and everything. I was young and poor and back then all things ABJD was still kind of new and groundbreaking and I had no one else to talk to about it as it really was a super niche thing back then. At the time, I started dating this guy and after a while he asked me, "I have a serious question to ask you. Do you want a piece of jewelry (hints that it was an engagement ring) or do you want to get one of those dolls you've been talking about?" He was a poor college student at the time but saved up some money to buy me just one special thing. I picked the doll.:XD:

So we went to the Volks USA store, picked a doll together, picked out her clothes, her shoes, her wig, everything, picked out a name for her together, and brought her to his parents' place where his mom was disappointed we came back with a doll instead of an engagement ring on my hand. At some point, I got the engagement ring and got married and figured we probably would never buy another doll again because the first one was so precious. *coughs* Still with the same guy nearly 20 years later...but we've gotten a few Grail dolls long the way and then some. But that first one. Totally was the one AND I've found the one at the same time too. :dance:XD::D

    18. If there is a Den of Angels post Hall of Fame, this one belongs in it.
This was an absolute joy to read. Thank you!

    19. I'll be boring. Yuxiu from Doll Family-A. All other dolls somehow withered and I come back to her just to look at her. I will get her eventually.

    20. The closest thing to it is Doll Chateau's K-body-07 (their bodies in general, really), but that's not a full doll and it hasn't made me quit buying dolls.
All of my dolls are "ones" in a way, because I love and bought them for specific reasons. Each of them fills a particular niche in my heart.
Sometimes, however, I hope that one day I find "the one(s)" that make me sell all my other dolls, because I enjoy the idea of dedicating my whole attention to a single or couple of dolls at most. I don't think it will ever happen, though.
