1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I am not sure yet, If I will change her name. She is Elf Yun from ResinSoul. I chose the purple skin tone for her, and, at the moment, I think Yun suits her well. I might change her name later...it depends what comes to me..or rather what she lets me know she would prefer :-)

    2. Welll, the doll i am going to get is called, DELF IF...

    3. Not yet. I think I'll only keep the sculpt name if I really can't come up with one myself. So far though whenever I decide on a doll, I really stew on its character during the decision, saving up, ordering and waiting periods so there's plenty of time to really flesh out the traits, personality, back story, etc.

    4. i give my dolls random names, im pretty lazy, sometimes i make the effort to think about it, sometimes i just wait the inspiration when i see them. the most laziest name i gave to one of my boy is Gale - galena mold. :XD:
but in the end, when i turn up to talk with someone about dolls, to referring to my boys i end up to call them as their mold name, or they wont understand of who im talking about .

    5. I think naming the doll is part of the fun... even though it takes me a while to name things. XD I think some of the names for the dolls don't fit them as well, so it might be better to rename them. Especially if a person gives the doll a personality.

      To each their own! =]

    6. I've done this with my dolls, but it was because they didn't have a 'sculpt', per-se; their names were the names from the series they were in from Volks. And they were cute, so I kept them, but I call them shorter versions of them. But as I am saving up for a Dollmore Kid Flocke female version, I don't too much care for that name, so I'm searching for a better name.

    7. Now that I have another doll I'd like to weigh in again on my own topic. xD

I have a Dollfie Dream "Image Character", Sasara Kusugawa. And I've kept the name Sasara, as well as her basic personality. I liked it, so I kept it. And I'm planning to keep the sculpt names of most of the dolls on my wishlist, except for the ones I'm going to make into fan dolls.

I just have a hard time coming up with names and personalities or "original character" type things in general. I guess I'm just unoriginal?

I like hearing from everyone else on this... I thought I was the only one! I'm glad to hear it's not as unusual as I thought. :3

    8. Aside from the Dollfie dream character dolls I don't think I could live with naming it after the sculpt.. It'd just be too impersonal. For example your Sasara, Luther. I'd have gotten her, or any other character, partly out of fangirl'ism. Changing the name would be silly, then it really wouldn't be that character any longer, and why would I have gone out of the way to hunt it down? But for most any other doll, it's personal.. I can't imagine naming my dog after its breed. Actually.. I did that once on accident.. But we were taking care of a sick puppy and were trying to not get attached and we called him Shiba to try and distance our hearts, but it didn't work, and he was Shiba for all his years... :doh

    9. I kept the sculpt name of my puki Ruby Dark Moon fullset she just looks like a Ruby Moon

    10. no. Breakaway & Human arent such great name :XD:

    11. I wouldnt keep the sculpt name i dont think... I'd need to live with the doll for a bit before naming though :)

    12. I don't do it, but I don't have a problem with it, either.
I simply like coming up with names for my dolls.

    13. I have named my dolls largely in accordance with who I want them to be, and where they are supposed to be from. I don't often have characters in mind, but they lead me to who they are.

I have however kept one compnay name. My Delf If. I liked If, but I expanded on it. I named her Isabella Francesca and call her If for short. :)

    14. I did it for one of my dolls, only because he really looked like a Louis to me, and I liked it.
      Some sculpt names sound cute and I think are really fitting for the doll, while others aren't. ^^;

Some drawbacks of this is that it gets confusing... when you're naming your doll along with its sculpt. (At least for non-bjd people...I think) ...and it also makes you seem kinda unoriginal/lazy, I guess. :P

    15. A lot of sculpts have nice names! It wouldn't have been terrible if I'd kept the sculpt names Dana, Asha, Lavender, Ravie, Sona . . .

But there are some, like Morningdew, that, while pretty, don't really sound like human names. :sweat And Woosoo . . . may be a nice name in Korean for all I know, but sounds vaguely obscene in English if you ask me.

For sculpt names that really grow on me, I try to incorporate them somehow. My Si is named Siward, and my Asa is named Asako. My Lavender is named Violet, a pun on the sculpt name.

I guess I do feel the need to change the name to make them mine. Besides, if too many people kept the sculpt name for the same sculpt, it'd just get confusing! (Do they mean El in general, or their El named El, or someone else's El named El, or someone else's Chiwoo named El . . .) But if people keep a sculpt name they like here and there I understand.

    16. For my first boy, I called him 'my Wing' until he named himself after I finished paying for him. He named himself Amadeaus. There's only one doll right now that I want that's going to be named before I even get him. The others will be going by the mold name until they tell me different.

    17. It depends. When I bought Lisa, it was Lisa I fell in love with. That's why she remains Lisa. When I bought Leah, I fell in love with Joan Crawford that she reminded me of. That's why I changed her name to Joan.

    18. Well, in my case, the sculpt's name turned out to be incredibly appropriate, but I do have this compulsive need to give names that, if not completely original, at least show that I've put some thought into it, so I decided on a compromise and looked for names that had the same meaning as my doll's sculpt name. It worked out quite well, for me, and helped to provide me with a name for the boyfriend I'm planning to buy her. So it all worked out.

    19. I was going to keep the sculpt name (Luka~), but then I realized that it'd get too confusing. There's Luka the vocaloid, Luka the Angelheim doll, Luka the fairyland doll (the one I have), and probably a bunch of OTHER Lukas. I dunno what I'm naming my doll yet, but it won't be Luka. XD

    20. While I can spend hours going thru name lists, looking for the perfect names for my girls, some dolls just fit their givin names..my first girl, Elfdoll Lydia is one of those.. . .she will always be Lydia. or "Lady Lydia" . . .My Domuya Marlene became "Marlena" just because it seemed to fit better. .

Some of them accept their new names, while others stand firm and refuse to budge . . :)
