It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

1. The doll I want, I keep calling Kasi or Ku-doll. :< I haven't quite come up with a name yet.
The main reason is because I really don't want to yet. I think his name'll come when I get him and see him and hold him and stuff like that, not to be a corn ball.
The Freya doll is really pretty. I wanted to get a Freya head on a girl's body, but kind of with a boy's face up (I think I'm thinking of the same doll.) from that B&G website that doesn't have anything besides dolls (no wigs or eyes or nothin') which is the reason I really decided I didn't want that doll. :< I didn't feel like having to order wigs, clothes and eyes from all over the place at the time.

2. I don't think that keeping the sculpt name is terribly common, because it seems somewhat impersonal and most ball-jointed doll collectors are all about personalization. However, I don't think it's necessarily uncommon for someone to become so attached to the sculpt's name that they can't think of their doll in any other way.

3. Well I got my first doll this week, and I really liked his sculpt name; Dang Dang. I decided to call him Yoora-Bae Moon, but nickname him Dango all the time. I called him Dang Dang for a long time and was scared
I have no problem calling him Dango, but my family dosen't get that his name is Dango and not DangDang so they keep saying that and so do I! D:

4. One of the dolls on my wishlist is Feliks, an AngelRegion Dana. And actually, his full name is going to be Feliks Dana - just because I kept calling him by his sculpt name when discussing things about his character and how and when I'm going to get him and stuff.

But I wouldn't keep the sculpt name as the first name of any doll, unless it really really really fit the character. 'Cause part of the fun is coming up with a nice name, and I've got lots in stock ♥

5. I call all my dolls after their sculps, I guess I am unimaginative, but they seem to suit them.

6. I would never. It actually bothers me. I always have characters planned before I decide on the mold, so I suppose it's technically possible that I might like a doll with the same name as my character. I'd probably find another mold before I let that happen, though.

7. Before I name my dolls I sometimes call them by the mould name, but I've noticed now that I tend to come up with temporary names or nicknames instead. For my incoming KDF Aru boy I've been calling him "Sei" but I really don't want that to be his name, it's just so he has something to be called in the meantime. ^_^; I'm not sure why I do it, I call him Aru too but I think the more attached to a doll I am, the more I subconsciously make it 'mine'.
Most sculpt names don't appeal to me but if there was a truly beautiful sculpt name I might consider keeping it. However the chances of that are rather slim because of my tastes and style.

8. I do call the sculpts like the characters I want to shell. For now there seemed to be enough of them. :)
And I think a personal name gives them more individualism and makes them kinda unique.

9. Hmmm... I usually don't. I have a doll who I'm planning to get in the near future... She'll be a DZ Yan fullset...
I was talking to my friend about the release of her and the other doll, Annie, and we just referred to them as Yan and Annie... When I decided I wanted one, I couldn't stop calling her Yan... So I decided her name would be "Yanni". It works very well with her character, actually. Because her story is that she's an android, and while at the time of her story she's programmed to help recreate the world after a nuclear apocalypse, she was previously a musical android, for entertainment purposes... The MSD girl that I have now is also an android (they're part of the same story) and has a Vocaloid cosplay... It works that way, because the DZ Yan fullset looks kind of like a Vocaloid outfit, so they could cosplay together, and Vocaloids are also musical devices, often portrayed as androids. So since I was on the topic of music, I just used the name "Yanni"... It's the stage name of my favorite composer~ It's even close to her mold name, and the the story given to her by the company is that she's a musician in a band... So everything fits perfectly with her!

Ugh, I got to rambling~ so sorry... Short answer; I'd only keep a mold's name if it REALLY suited the doll and the doll's character, and even then I'd try to change it so it's only similar and not the exact same name.

10. Most of my BJD are (One Piece manga and anime series) characters that have already given names. The names of the couple of my own creation characters popped up by the stories I write. None of their names is the same that the one from their sculpts. I love naming when I have the chance, but would not mind naming a BJD with the name of his/her sculpt if I thought it is what really fits him/her.

11. A personal name, given by the owner, distinguishes a doll.
Of course, every doll means something special to the owner - whatever name it has. Still, a great number of dolls with the same features has the same name... nooo, that's not for me.

12. That's what happens to me :doh
I call them by the sculpt name so my S.O. can associate which doll I'm talking about, before they arrive. Then they arrive and the name sticks!
I definitely know now (after how many dolls? lol) that I gotta call them by the name I want for them... otherwise I'm mindstuck on the sculpt name XD

13. I've renamed all of my dolls except for two of them. Iplehouse Silvia was my first BJD and I still call her Sylvia and I just got a Dollstown Estella and I love that name too. I noticed in reading through this thread that two other DoA members have also stuck to calling their IH Silvia and Dollstown Estella by their sculpt names:fangirl:

But I also have the problem of referring to the dolls by their sculpt name before they come home to me, so if I don't change the name pretty quickly then I have a hard time thinking of them by anything other than those names!

14. I plan on renaming my doll when I get her, but I started getting too accustomed to her sculpt name when talking about her with friends that I had to start referring to her as her new name so the sculpt name wouldn't stick!
I personally wouldn't want to keep the sculpt name - it seems too impersonal. In my opinion, when you get a new doll, you create a new personality for him or her - and you have to give them a new name to reflect that. ;)

15. I wouldn't do it. However upon discovering some of the names I planned on using were names doll companies already used, I gave a few moments of consideration to naming ALL my dolls after sculpts that AREN'T their own.... just to make things confusing. :P
Didn't happen though.

16. The closest I came to it was naming a Shiwoo Shivara. Never again. I bought him because he was pretty, gave him a name based off the sculpt name, and never really connected with him.

I've decided to focus on collecting dolls of my pre-existing OCs so they will almost all have names before I even find the sculpt I want from now on. I feel like that will help me bond with my dolls more, instead of just letting them be pretty on a shelf all the time.

17. Generally, no I would not consider keeping a sculpt name. But the DZ Annie I'm saving for will actually be keeping her name, surprisingly. Her character is totally different than what the DZ web-site describes. Keeping the name, changing the character. xD

18. My Rooney did run around as "Rooney" for about two weeks while I figured out what I wanted to call her, but I knew for a fact that the unoas wouldn't keep their sculpt names. Not that Latea or Marion are bad names, just unsuited to my idea of the character. I think if I ever bought an Ami Ayase that she'd keep her name though.

19. Hmmm...well, some of my Volks dolls like Sylvie and Cecile (although I call him Cecil) are the same as the mold, but most of my dolls have different names as the molds. It just depends on whether or not the mould name fits for me... hee hee ;)

20. Some of mine have their original sculpt names and some do not. If they kept the sculpt name is because I feel it suits them, or the personality has not quite developed yet enough for me to give them a new one!
