1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I think for ones where I've bought the doll as a full set and kept it like that I would probably keep the name they came with. For one that I altered slightly I might change the name. For one that I've put the body/head/wig/eyes/outfit together myself I'd name it myself.

    2. I actually have a lot of trouble naming my dolls :( As a result, I refer to my dolls by their sculpt names. Except Minifee Miyu as she doesn't look at all like a Miyu. I think I'll probably call my PukiPuki Ruby and if I can't think of a better name for Ante... Ante it is :| Maybe I'll think of a similar sounding name?

    3. All my dolls have different names to their sculpt name, but I'll be ordering an IH Chase soon and I love that name for his character so much that he will be called Chase!

    4. As a rule of thumb, I always changed their names. However, Chen joined me by a rather unusual route- he was actually stock from my Dealership Indollgence. He's a Dollzone Chen and was displayed in his Fullset... and got kinda stained from the trousers.
I couldn't sell him like that, so i cut the loss and kept him (I wanted one anyway XD), but he'd been referred to as Chen so long he wouldn't let go of the name... or the fur wig... (I really don't like fur wigs... But he's determined.)

    5. I like to create names for my dolls, but only after I actually hold them and look into them because I do not create characters for them before hand. But I still refer to them by sculpt when talking to doll new doll folk.

    6. Most of my dolls are based my characters, so of course they would take on the names mant for them. But I have a couple of other dolls that do not have a set character, but I give them their own names rather than the sculpt name. I feel it makes my connection to them more personal, if that makes any sense. :)

    7. renamed them all, though sometimes they are called by their mold name cause well, not everyone has to know my babies names as good as i do

    8. All my dolls already have a name and personality before I even think of making them BJDs, though I sometimes *most of the time* use their sculpt names to make it easier for others to know what doll I am talking about xD

    9. Just got my first doll Friday - named her Emma, even though the sculpt name is Flocke (so that doesn't count)

However, second doll I want to be a hybrid of a BBB or RS Mei head and another body (as I hear the bodies from them tend to be difficult). And I like the name Mei, but I think I'd rather have it be May, instead, which is pretty much the same thing in terms of pronunciation.

But my two dollfies have kept the same names, since they belong to some elaborate Volks story that I have no clue of.

    10. I have a Napidoll Chesi and I'm considering keeping her name Chesi. I have another name picked out but until I get her a body and a faceup, I won't really know which one suits her better. She's really the only one I've considered keeping the sculpt name though.

    11. In my case, the Body of my dollfie is from Dolkot Chris and the head is Dolkot Day, so it has two names Chris and Dei xD

    12. This has been an interesting idea for me. I don't have a world or characters for them to play. It's more whatever the doll projects if that makes any sense. So I already know Barron will stay Barron. It just fits that face. I want a Soul Vito Lester, but I don't think that fits his vibe. Something will come to me.

    13. I'm planning on getting a Leah from Fairyland and I'm definately keeping the name because I want to make her into a mini me

    14. My JDF Terra has his own name but occassionally I will address him as "Terra" as well xD
It's kind of like his nick name at the moment xD

    15. I suppose I have kept the sculpt names for most of my dolls. In those instances where I did not, it had more to do with the absence of a name, or the sculpt is named something unpronouncable.

    16. I always looked at the signatures of some DoA members and got annoyed when I believed that they kept the same name as the model instead of making their own... but now I am having an issue...

I ordered my Lt. Skin RS Ariel from Junkyspot and he had to be custom ordered because, well I wanted a boy body and a lt tan... which wasn't in stock. And... he has yet to come in. Which, I'm not all to worried about yet.

My issue is... well, since I don't have him in my hands I can't name him. So I have been calling him Ariel (in the male form)... and... I think it's sticking...

Edit: Wow... I didn't know I was that blind... Thanks mods for moving this

    17. I think every individual doll has it's own name, and sometimes it happens to be the same name as the model. When you look at the doll, is that the name that suits it best? I'm sure it does, I mean there has to be some reason companies give their different models names and not numbers or just descriptors.

    18. My first doll I ever made was a DDy who I named Manami. I found it easier to name a doll that you make, than buying a sculpt. When I owned my Dollzone Aimi, I could not change her name... because she looked like an Aimi, and it just fit. The same thing happened when I got my Impl Doll Pinky... I could not get her out of her sculpt name! (mainly because my Impl Doll Pinky is made of pink resin, too) But I DID manage to break the habit when I got my Dollzone Hid. His name just did not work for him... so I re-named him Kou after Kouichi from "Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3rd Story". The more I called him Kou, the more his name fit. Now, I got a Doll Family doll coming in, and his name in Chinese is translated to "Violet"... I think I should have no issues changing his name like I did with Kou! (Though he is an Elf boy, I just cannot picture any boy doll with a name like "Violet".)

    19. Interesting topic, and I've wondered about how common this might be too. So far the only one who's kept his original name unaltered in any way is my Volks SD13 Boy Heath. Over the years, I toyed with the idea of choosing another name for him, but somehow it never happened because he's just "Heath" to me, and was from the very moment I saw him on Volks website. Ahhh my brooding young man of the moors...he was longing not for Cathy, but my "Passion" (Madoka/Shizu) to fulfill his heart's desire. ;)

I've also ended up hyphenating a couple of names of my other Volks dolls too...like "Kaede-Sugar" and "Rose-Aurore", but "Heath" just suits my guy so well, I couldn't even think of a middle name to give him.

Good to see from other posts replying to this thread that I'm not alone. ;)

    20. I'm giving my two dolls original names, although I'm having trouble deciding on the second. I don't think names are as important as enjoying the doll. If the sculpt name fits, keep it. If you've got an original name for your doll, rename it. It's not like the doll's going to complain, either way.

And honestly, if the doll isn't based on an original character, what's really the big deal about keeping the original name?
