1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I plan to keep two sculpt names: Elijah and Silvia (for AiL Elijah and Iplehouse Silvia.). The names just suit the characters very well, but I'll probably be changing them slightly just because. I like to take the sculpt name sometimes and sort of manipulate it into something else. I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping the sculpt name, as long as it suits your character!

    2. On one side I want to have an original name for my doll, on the other side I really do believe in what some people say about giving names. Everyone got the name who will suit her/him, no matther on what circomstances it was chosen. And yeah I do know it's only a doll, but for some reason unknown to me, I still want to believe that name thing. So I decided to keep the first part of the sculptname 'Hid' and added some other word. Hid means perfection in japanese, yoshi means gook luck. So my doll's name became the japanese name Hideyoshi ^-^

    3. Actually, while I don't currently have a doll named for it's sculpt I -do- have a doll named for another doll's sculpt! I had planned on getting a gray limited Leira from Souldoll, but wasn't able to get up the money in time. I had planned on her keeping the name Leira, because the character she was meant to portray only had a 'codename' as part of her backstory. I thought the sculpt name suited her perfectly for a real name.

Since I didn't end up with her (and sad I was!) I ended up naming my Soom Grit after her.

I also only ever reffered to my old Bao as Bao.

    4. I have a friend whose Petsha is named just that.

Myself, I have an LS SD Ted whose name is Edward but he's known as Teddy to most. I just felt like keeping the Ted name somehow. He's my only one to keep the sculpt name, though.

    5. I definately am doing so for My DOT Code No.2! My boy is going to be a character from an unknown world in the future who travelled to ours and I really do find the sculpt name suits him perfectly, despite his story being very vague at the moment.

    6. I did not keep sculpt names as the name for my dolls, nor do I plan to in the future. If I get any others, they already have names picked out too. I do still look at Tantalus and think "Ryu" but when he's all dressed up and posing so cute, the sculpt goes away and the doll takes form. It's important for me to connect with the doll, and giving them a name and a style that comes from my imagination is what gets me there.
I have to admit, though, that if I ever got a DZ Yue, it will probably be difficult for me to think of him as anything but Yue because I've been thinking about him with the label of 'Yue' for like three years now. Because he was not dreamed of with any name in mind, he keeps that name for me. This is why I must never get a Yue - he will never be really my own doll.

BUT I will probably be a little irritated if I see other dolls named Zin now that Castleanne has released their new sculpt. Here I thought it was a wonderfully unique name...

    7. I barely was able to come up with names for the RL kids, and almost ended up naming them after Famous Letters and Numbers.

So, all my dolls have their original sculpt names :) I figure their artists had their reasons. MeiMei and PongPong and SoSo are by now almost terms of endearment for them in this household :D

I don't have characters made up for them though. I understand fully that when one does, the sculpts get new names. I enjoy checking people's signatures to read them!

    8. For some it's just hard to name there dolls. When i bought my AOD Juli i was always thinking her name will have to be changed and i thought up of a bunch of names. But when she got here all the other names went out the window as i thought her name was meant just for her for some reason to me she looks like a Juli and her name has stuck. But now i have a Bobobie Apollo coming in and his name will change as he does not look like a Apollo to me also his name will bring tears to me because of the Apollo shuttle disaster.

    9. Yeah I keep the sculpt name unless I have a very very specific character for my doll.
I didn't used to like this, but I just found myself calling their sculpt names in most of the time, even after I gave them "new" names ;)

    10. I might keep the sculpt name if I love the name and believe it fits the sculpt better than any of the names I thought up for it. I prefer naming them myself because it feels more personal, but I might make an exception. I call my doll by her sculpt name in front of one of my friends because I bet he'd laugh or call me childish if he knew I named it.

    11. I almost always keep the sculpt name. Sometimes I plan to change it, but never have. I have a "doll story" as well, but my characters are made to fit the doll, then fit into the story. I think my character's are made entirely for the doll. There is no character I'm trying to find the right doll for. I guess, there is no character until the doll shows up. I'm sure that some people must think it's pretty unoriginal to not pick a more personalized name, but I, also, can't ever seem to come up with something. Sometimes I tweek it a bit, but generally not much.

    12. Well I didn't exactly keep the sculpt name for my Tasha but I named her Asha without even realising how close it was to the original sculpt name xD. It just suited her so well! So now she's Ash :3

    13. its by preference, if it comes with a good name and it seems to fit the doll itlls stick if you want it to, but coming up with names can be fun but sometimes a pain when you dont know what to name your doll.
one of the dolls i want is a souldoll tarot card 18 leira the moon, i could just name her leira it suits her and seems to fit or
i can take a name like 'tarot' and change it to 'taro' then to 'tara' and theres another name that fits her n_n
just come up with different names or change words to something that sounds right

    14. My BJD's mold name is Hid, but I renamed him Yourik due to watching Hamlet too much. I carried him around in two pieces one body and his arm. Plus his head and body aren't the same company.

    15. I've been very tempted to keep the name Cyril for my Impldoll Cyril because it just seems to fit the sculpt so well, and he's not based on an already existing character of mine. I've also been toying with Cecil because I like names with C, but I think Cyril he'll stay.

    16. I believe people do this all the time. If you like the name, you should keep it.

    17. I think some people do this... I mean, a lot of the sculpts come with cute names! I personally give mine other names, though.

    18. My Elfdoll Vivien has stayed Vivien because it seems to suit her and her character. I usually refer to my dolls by their sculpt name oddly, they have names but tend to be called by their sculpt more, usually when talking to people about them 'Oh you know Chrom' rather than 'Bonifac'. No matter how hard I try to say the names I give them I always end up just refering to them as their sculpt!

    19. I couldn't even remember the sculpt name by the time my doll arrived to me...it was a long 70 day period. When i checked back
his name was Terra from luts delf junior So I never ended up naming my doll ...because the original name didn't seem to suit him.

    20. I always keep the sculpt name. I am not good remembering "names" as it is.
