Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. i have never kept a sculpt name as the name of my doll, BUT i am soon getting a volks lucas...and though i probably won't keep the sculpt name...doesn't he look just like a "lucas"??

    2. @Galifrey: oooh yes I'm so sure if I dont choose him a name now, his original name (Lester) will be stuck in my mind forever! I love the name Virko, but This is my Taeyang Sebastian's name and I cant steal it from him now!! Haha I was so tempted to do...;].
Ah its so nice when we have names for dolls we still did not buy!! Like for exemple, one day I will buy a RealPuki Tyni and his name will be Frodo! ;)

    3. I might incorporate the sculpt name as part of a new name, but I don't think I would keep it as the primary name.

    4. I do it! If I like the name the doll came with, I keep it. I've kept the sculpt name for two of my dolls. : )

    5. I personally wouldn't do it because one of my favorite parts is coming up with a name and creating a whole new "identity" for my doll. If i really liked a sculpt name though i wouldn't be opposed to it.

    6. @froggymonkey : This is a great idea! I think I'll do that and keep his sculpt name ( Lester ) as his second name!

    7. I'm thinking of keeping the name of Volks Williams if I'm able to get him this time at dolpa24. He was my Holy Grail doll all the time (next to Volks Lucas, who I also consider keeping this name) and I always talk of Williams, Willi - so it might be hard for me to call him another name one day. He will always be my dear Williams (or just William).

    8. Ich habe 6 dolls sitting in my room so far. I the case of 2 dolls I kept their names. One is my lovely Elfdoll Lydia. I can't think of another name for her. The other doll is Doll-Love Luke. He has an Chinese name but the seller called him Luke in English. He was my first doll he ever was 'Luke' for me. ^^
In future I think I will name all of my dolls myself ... Let's see. ^^

    9. So far I have kept the sculpt name for all my dolls, as this is the name I have come to know them by and don't see any reason to change them.

    10. I did this once already, and I think I'll do it again... xD;; I named my BlueFairy Louis, Louis (but pronounced like "Louie", cause he's supposed to be French. At least that's a different twist? Kinda?) for Crobidoll's Jun... I really can't see him as any other name than Jun or Jun-chan... lol it's just gonna stay like that. ^^;;

    11. Named my SoulDoll Lester, Kai... But kept the sculpt name as his second name, so he is Kai Lester. I like the idea and will be doing the same for future dolls probably.

    12. Oh I knew I couldn't be the only one who keeps sculpts names for their real names! :sweat It's odd because I've never been at a lack for names (in writing or in naming anything in my childhood). I like to look up the meanings for my favorite names and remember them for when I need them. :) However with my BJDs I often find there sculpt names getting "stuck". So much so that it just becomes a part of their character.

The Guardians (Soom fantasy dolls) all keep their sculpt names and I have no second thoughts or remorse about that. I think Chalco is just the perfect name for Chalco. They're from another world anyway so they're not supposed to have human or "real" names. Plus it's nice to not have to make up fantasy names. I think made up fantasy (not always but sometimes) end up sounding really silly, sometimes laughable.

As for the humans in the bunch, Minoru and a 09 Wintery, I'm toying with the idea of "Liam" for Minoru. I think it really suites him, but I've also gotten so used to calling him Minoru I'm sure Minoru will probably end up as a middle name or something. Maybe after his great great grandpa? I don't know I'm still working on his character. As for for the Wintery, his "real" name is Adam, but he goes by Wintery. He's kind of an oddball.

It really all depends on how much I like the name. I have an "Annette" coming, who will definitely be getting a new name, as I don't have a real liking for the name Annette.

I'm glad to see there's other sculpt namers out there. I know I've gotten a couple looks when I say "his name's Chalco", "Yeah, but what's his real name?" "Errrr... Chalco?" :doh

    13. I've incorporate the sculpt names in my doll names, when it works out. In order:

B&G Rin. I like the name Rin, but it did not suit my boy (who was supposed to be a girl, Rose, but uh...that's a story for another thread). I'm a fan of Japanese cinema and love the names Hiroyuki, the brilliant actor Hiroyuki Sanada in "Twilight Samurai" and Akira for both Kurosawa and the movie (Akira is coming!). His full name: Hiroyuki Akira vander Rin.

Elfdoll Soah. I love redheads. My father was ginger, my husband is ginger. When I bought my Soah (from the marketplace), I planned to get a red wig and call her Ginger (genius, no?) But she arrived and prefers purple but her name stuck. She won't tell me the rest of her names.

Classic Narae. I was unable to fit her sculpt name into her full name, which is: Mary Margaret McWilliams, after two of my great aunts. She goes by Maisie because it suits her and it's a variation of Margaret.

Dollshe Bernard head at home, Pure Body ordered. I love his name and his sculpt, but he is an Ethan. My husband came up with a brilliant name: Bernard Ethan Quatermass. Say it like you're in an episode of Doctor Who (BER-nurd). He goes by Ethan.

    14. I've kept most of my dolls sculpt names as their middle names. And I call a couple of my dolls by their middle names all the time. For instance I have a Volks Sweet Dreams Anne, who's name is Elizabeth, but she prefers to go by Anne. All of my dolls have been given New names except one. I have a DIM Michael Jackson Minimee head, who is just keeping that name. ^_^

    15. It takes me a while to come up with names because all of my characters have names from one of the languages I created.... Therefore Auri was just "Vian" for a while. I still refer to him by his sculpt name if I am talking about something like how he poses or his proportions... non-character stuff, in other words. But Vian is a pretty name too, so I could understand if someone wanted to keep it.

    16. I am waiting on my Supia Rosy to come home, and, as of right now, I believe I will name her Rose. (I sound so confident, don't I? :sweat )

I have always loved the name Rose--it sounds cute, but also mature and romantic. It's exactly as I imagine her character to be. :) Of course, that might change when she arrives, but from what I've seen of her, she's my quiet little cutie Rose.

    17. My Bobobie Ariel has the same name I cant really see her having any other name really and my Elkin is kind of the same because his name is Blue and hes a Blue Elkin.

    18. I was looking for a doll to embody a character that I'd created, so keeping his doll name was never really even a thought. I was waiting until I found one who looked like my Rowen rather than picking one I liked and then impressing his name on it over the doll name.

    19. I've named my bluefairy boy Cassidy but I call him Kyle all the time. xD It just suits him.

    20. I have 3 dolls at home and all 3 have the same names as they sculpts. I think these names simply fit my dolls. In case of DiM Galahad it was also the name that made me fall in love with him completely :D
