1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I have a Volks Rose that kept her sculpt name. Rose just seems to fit her so well!

    2. Some companies are right on for me... Like IH gets their names good for the looks of their dolls....
Dollmore "imo" has nice dolls but the names are all wrong.

    3. For me it depends on whether I have a character and name already set up for them. Ju didn't have a planned character, so I just named her Julie because it went with her sculpt name. My F-17 doesn't have a sculpt name so no problems there, he was immediatly Crowley. My Volks Alice was based on Alice in Wonderland, which is one of my favorite books, so I decided to keep the name and the character. My Iplehouse boy was Lion when he was in transit, but now that he's home he's Monkey.

I usually refer to the dolls that I want by their sculpt name, even if they have a character, because it's easier to keep track of them in my head that way, but I think when they come home it will be easy to switch names. Characters that don't have names yet...I'm not sure how that's going to work out. I may partially base names on the sculpt name because that's just what I'm used to calling them.

    4. Well, unfortunately - I cannot remember names at all for dolls or people. So, for me, if I am developing a character for a story, I use the sculpt's first letter and find a name with that letter. Somehow, that helps me remember all my doll's names.

When I got Bichun - however, I absolutely love his name and it seems to be sticking so far.

    5. Oh yes! I kept a mold name :) I think there are some beautiful mold names around and why not keeping them?!
I did not found a new name for my Kaya and I think it is a really pretty name so it get stuck :)

    6. I had once planned to get an AngelRegion Kai and keep his sculpt name. And I've just gotten a Bambicrony Kumi who is Kumiko (but her nickname is Kumi). I didn't do this with any of my other dolls though because it wouldn't have fit them. But I wouldn't have a problem keeping a sculpt name if it worked for a character.

    7. My Fairyland Chloe kept her name as I just see her as a Chloe. No one else has though.

    8. my doll name is Nangong. My friends call him Ace because is easier for them to say. So yeah i name him Ace Nangong. I do like his name better than Ace

    9. When I have an idea for a character, or if a character name pops into my head then I'll change it. But when I get a doll based only on liking the look of the doll for example my incoming Erzulie. I kept calling her "Erzulie" or "Zulie" when I referred to her to people, that I think it's going to stick when she gets here unless she tells me otherwise, but I doubt that.

    10. I know what people mean about the mold name getting stuck on... ^^; My Lily.C almost stayed that, because I couldn't find any good name for her. Then I luckily came up with Näri; I don't like traditional woman names that much.
I don't know if I'd be able to keep a company name for the doll even if it suited. I've an obsession about being creative, kinda ;;;XD But I don't have anything wrong with others doing that. It's easier for me, anyways, not needing to remember their own names >:--D

    11. I name them but I always seem to refer to them by their sculpt anyway lol

    12. I give them diffent names from their sculpt name, but my Zumi is highly referenced to her sculpt name, Suzune.
She isn't an original character I had before the doll herself, so for a few weeks before she arrived she didn't have a name. In that time I referred to her as Suzune, but it was never her name. I didn't want to call her Suzu either, because I already know a doll of that sculpt with that name... so somehow "Zumi" just came to me so I called her that, but the similarity can still be seen.
Though with the others, not at all. Teddy (SF Paul) and Yuri (SF Hana) have nothing to do with their sculpt names XD

    13. My Galena's name is Galena. :/ I have no idea why, but no name would come to me for her other than her Sculpt name. Oddly enough it fits, even though she's customized. lol

    14. I kept my first doll's sculpt name, but that's about it. :p

    15. I haven't gotten him yet, but I'm pretty sure my Homme Ducan's name will be... well... Ducan. xD

I've tried to pick new names for him, but in the process of choosing and introducing him to my parents, I referred to him as Ducan and now I can't think of him as anything else.

Whenever looking at dolls, I always refer to them by sculpt names, because if I give them one, I'll probably get too attached and need to buy it. And then, if I do end up buying that doll, the sculpt name will stick. *rips hair out*

    16. I've kept a couple of my sculpt names - Beryl and Sard most notably since as others have said, I just got used to thinking of them as Beryl and Sard and no other name seemed to fit. I gave them both surnames but rarely use them. I've also used the sculpt name to inspire the dolls name. My Migidoll Miho became Milo...

    17. The doll I'm waiting for has been renamed, and most of the one's I'm interested in will be renamed. There are only two that I want that would probably end up keeping their names if I couldn't think of ones for them (they are the Angell Studio twins Ty and Rone). I love their names, but I would try to come up with something different. I think it personalizes them.

    18. I always rename my dolls. I might refer to them as "my Chi" or "my Xavor" because if I go on and on about Tovarious, Jaden, and Alice then people would be like "Should I know whom you're refering to?" :sweat

But they'll always have their own names to me. It's part of the customizing process for me, personally. Just like I don't get full sets because in the back of my mind it bugs me that my doll will look exactly like anyone else's that got the full set (other than different random eyes possibly) and then I think if I'm not gonna customize them and make them my own then I might as well get a cheaper (meaning non BJD) doll. I have nothing against people who have the full sets and/or keep the sculpt names. I would never accuse them of being unoriginal or not really being a true part of the hobby. It's just how I feel personally about my own dolls. I feel the need to customize them to my liking. For me personally it's how I relate to the hobby and one of the things I enjoy so much about it. I don't like Barbies or Bratz or even American Girl or other dolls enough to want to spend money on them; I might admire someone else's collection, but that would be the extent of it. But when I see a BJD sculpt that really clicks with me I start thinking of all the things I can do with it to make it mine and I love that. That's why I'm in this hobby in the first place.

    19. I kept the sculpt name for my Bambicrony Kumi (I actually made her full name Kumiko based on the sculpt, but I usually refer to her as Kumi). It's a cute name and really seems to suit her.

    20. My next doll will be B&G Nailo and I guess his name will stay Nailo. ^-^
It's just a beautiful name and it fits him.
