1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I find that if I am unable to come up with a name for a doll I usually fall back to the sculpt name and if I don't discover a name that doll gets tucked away. Eventually it gets sold.

    2. I use the sculpt names if I like them. I have trouble thinking of names and a lot of my dolls are nameless, so I just refer to them by their sculpt. Also, I've found that when I name a doll, the name is based on the sculpt/body/hair/eyes/clothes combination he's currently wearing, so once I change his look, sometimes the name no longer fits. For instance, my Crobidoll Lance was named "Caspian" for a while because I thought that fit the princely look he had at the time-he had on an outfit like some noble might wear. But now he's wearing casual clothes and I no longer like that name for him. Another example is my Infinitidoll Dreaming Kay, which I originally named "Dorian" when he had on a ruffly outfit with a corset. But now he's wearing a flowing, robe-like outfit that doesn't fit the name Dorian. I've also noticed that most names I pick out end in "ian" or "iel", and that kind of bothers me.

    3. I haven't kept the sculpt names for any of my crew yet, but I'm pretty sure that will change if I ever find my Vesuvia. I think her name is unique and very fitting for her sculpt, and I'm leaning strongly towards keeping it once I have her.

    4. For my IS Zhuqing, I decided to keep Zhuqing as his last name. All together his name is Shen-shi Zhuqing. ^^ I just really liked the way it sounded.

    5. I love the name Petsha(the original name of my doll) but somehow I just think that it would be more unique to give a name that I can come up with for it makes her special in a way, I've given her a new personality not as just what she has being given generally by her manufacturer but by her owner n__6

    6. Oh, new names for my dolls for sure. I love making up new names.

    7. I call dolls by the sculpt name only when I'm still trying to find the right one, usually as soon as I get them something tell me what they're name should be. I may still call them by the sculpt name but just if the people who I'm talking with don't know my dolls by their name.

    8. Yeap, me too, I do call my dolls by their sculpt names when I'm taking with people who does not know their new names for it's easier to refer which doll I'm taking about n___6

    9. i love making up new names. if i have a doll i can't think of a name for, i sell her!

    10. I kept my girls name Yur becuase it fit her, I tried Emma for a week but it didn't seem to fit her.

    11. I think building an original character ane thinking of a name is fun, however if I ever got a fullset I would keep the name as a collector.

    12. I couldn't imagine ever keeping the sculpt name on a doll I own. Renaming them is part of how I make them exclusively my own.

    13. I'd normally call a doll their sculpt name while I'm choosing its permanant name.... but usually it sticks and they're stuck with it :sweat
I think it's because you get to know the doll as that name, so it seems weird calling it something else
Imagine trying to call someone you know very well a different name... it wouldn't seem natural for a while ~

    14. I try to give each doll a unique name, but for some reason, for some dolls the name doesn't stick. My Narae has been through about 5 names now and I find myself calling her Narae because I can never remember the others. Hazy is another one who goes through a lot of names. In the end she always ends up Hazy.

The first few dolls were easy to remember, but now I have to keep a list. Especially for dolls that don't get constant attention. I'll look at a doll and say, "Who are you, again?" If the doll doesn't tell me, and I can't find the list, he or she goes by the sculpt name.

    15. I haven't yet named one of my dolls after their sculpt... but I would if it was the name I felt worked. I find with my dolls that names just come to my head when I see them. If it happened to be the sculpts name, then I would name them that.: )

My guess is that will never happen... There are just to many names out there... so the chance of that happening is very slim.XD

    16. I have found that i have a character in mind before i even choose a sculpt so no i have names already for them of my own choosing. Though i do refer to them by only when asked from others.

    17. I call them with a sculpt name when I haven't decide name for a doll yet. But they don't stay. To decide the name for doll is one the hardest task for me to do. I don't know why.

    18. My first two dolls there was no question for me to change their names. But with Cian I thought about keeping it. I really liked the name and it suits him.

    19. My dolls are not specific characters, so I feel only a small urge to name them. Mostly, I do refer to them by their sculpt names, "My Yuu," etc. However, as I get further into their clothes-making, they may develop enough specific personality for a name to occur to me. It's not just a matter of finding a nice name, but finding the right one.

    20. I still call my boy his sculpt name. It sometimes just comes out > <, I have even replaced his old mold with a new one and I still haven't broken this habit. This is only happening because I thought of his character while I was waiting for his arrival. > < *so.long.ago, But for any dolls that should be joining me I have all their characters figured out so this Sculpt calling is not longer going to happen.
