Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I kept my doll's mold names since im awful at picking names for things and i liked the names lol

    2. I have just one doll at the moment, Illusion spirit- Cantarira/Cantarella and i don't like the name at all! It doesnt suit him one bit XD so i had to change it.

    3. At this moment I have three BJDs at home and none of them is called by his/her scilpt name. It's just that I keep thinking that keeping the scuplt name is very boring and lazy and such. I want my dolls to have pretty names I've decided myself and some of my dolls or future dolls have or will have kind of unique names like Aaria and Oodi because I like it that way.

I've laready decided the names for most of the dolls that are in my must have list although I don't even know when I'll be able to buy them :)

    4. sometimes sculpt names are just perfect for them so in that case I'd keep them (unless I couldn't find a better one), sometimes they don't match with their face or personality so it's better find another name (that is not easy for me, I'm always so undecided)

    5. I only have one BJD, and when I bought him the dealer and ladies in the booth said he will "choose his name". His sculpt name was 'Song', but I waited and waited to see if he would so called "choose it". I didn't think Song suited him so eventually I was going to name him something else, but then my boyfriend's father told me my doll had eyes the color of the Medieval poet: Geoffrey Chaucer's eyes!! So thus: I named him Chaucer and it suits him so well! ^__^

    6. For a long time I kept my Dollzone Asura's name and only recently did I feel compelled to change it to Seraphim. But normally I buy dolls according to a character or persona I have in mind, and just give them the name the character has.

    7. I really like the sculpt name of the doll I'm purchasing so I will more then likely keep the name for my boy. To me he's Pine (Luts KDB Pine). That's how I refer to him and that's who he is to me.

    8. My Soulkid Yoni-P has remained Yoni to this day. It was not my intention at all but she didn't match the character planned for her and I loved her to much to get rid of her. Plus, everyone else called her that!

    9. Out of all the dolls I've looked at, only two mold names has stuck with me as being that doll's name should I ever get them... Iplehouse's EID Jessica and Fairyland's PP PongPong. I don't know why but she's just a Jessica to me when I look at her. As for PongPong, I can see myself changing his name once I had him since it sounds silly to keep saying PongPong ;)

    10. Some mold names are very appealing and some are just plain stupid. I do tend to keep the mold names as nicknames

    11. i wouldn't keep the sculpt name, i would only use them just to refer to my dolls to others when i mention them for the first time kkk.
i do have characters in mind that i would like to have as dolls, but my first one on her way is not one of these. so im thinking about her name 24/7 as i don't want the sculpt name to get stuck with her. but i think i will only be able to decide when i finally see her in person~~~

    12. I name all of my BJDs. Sometimes if a name doesn't stick, it's like the doll doesn't want to be here, so will eventually leave the island. Others sort of tell me their names and some I've chosen the name in advance after seeing a picture of the doll (second market only becuz that is how the doll really looks) and the name just fits perfectly. I only refer to their sculpt name when speaking about them to other people. My fave guys (and y'all know who they are) each have a nickname and a name assigned by Noir (my Black Catsy) who hangs out with them. Of course nicknames are specific to each guy, and Sweetie, You-Sexy-Thing, Honey, and Baby don't count as nicknames but are used a lot when taking pictures! It works ....

    13. I had considered keeping the sculpt name for the first doll I want, but then I found a name I liked better. One of the other dolls on my wishlist is keeping their sculpt name though. A friend of mine on here does have at least one doll that I know of who has the same name as its sculpt, and I'm sure other people do it to.

    14. It depends on the doll. My SDC Gretel absolutely wanted nothing whatsoever to do with her Volks sculpt name. She muttered something to the effect that Volks had no business naming a chic and sophisticated girl after some ragamuffin. I renamed my IH Ryan David and he's happy with that. On the other hand my IH ebony Benny is perfectly happy being called that. Mostly though, I give my girls names that are reflective of their sculpt name but different from; hence my 50 CM Obitsu Megu is Megan and my AoD Lan is Lanelle so I'm all over the map on this. Tom

    15. When I ordered my AR Dana boy (2nd hand) the character's name was Jackson Calibrizi (10 yrs old). When I got him, I kept the Dana for his first name because it somehow just fits him & it also fits in perfectly w/his character (so now its DANA Jackson Calibrizi....)
      LOL

    16. I have never kept the sculpt name for a character though I am sure there will come a time when maybe that happens. However since I usually have a character for the doll before I even decide on a doll to buy then. So I guess as of right now I don't, but that could change. I don't see why it makes a difference though honestly. I mean it goes into why someone collects the dolls in the first place. Is it about getting this sculpt or that sculpt or are they collecting them because they are the best way to show off the characters that they themsleves have already created.

    17. Eh... I've only had my eye on one doll and I plan to keep his name as what the company already gave him. I've always referred to him as "Benny" short for the mould's name "Benjamin", so it just stuck. I had another name for him but decided against it because it didn't really match the personality I had in mind for the doll.

    18. My Volks MSD has kept his sculpt name; Manabu. I think it suits him, so I kept it. :3

    19. I think it all depends on what the doll looks like when he/she arrives. If he/she looks like their sculpt name more than any other name, I would probably just go with the sculpt name. But if there's another name that I adore for him/her, I would chose that over the sculpt.

    20. I personaly have never kept the name of the sculpt as my dolls name but i have thought of it. When i ordered my Brava Bambi Tan Ellen i went back and forward with the name.
I was debating between naming her Bambi or Scarlet ( her fullset clothes reminded me of Scarlet O'hara)
i thought bambi cuz s she kinda looked like bambi...but i love gone with the wind so scarlet stuck.
I couldn't think of a name for my boy so for about two weeks i called him Hui Ka ( he was an HZ Hui Ka ). but i eventually named him Atticus.
