1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I use the company name and mold, this way if someone is researching a certain doll, mine can be used as a reference. :)

    2. For my SAyuri, at first I was considering leaving Haruka as her name. That is because Haruka is one of my characters but then I remembered other characters and decided to go with new original character who isn't part of story already.

    3. I would've said no to this before as all the dolls I buy are characters of mine and the name I have for the character never matches the sculpt name. But....

I won a doll in a raffle (LeekeWorld Khal vampire) and I've sort of kept the sculpt name. I did originally call him Khal for about a week as I didn't have a character for the doll and I needed to call him something other than "the new doll". I liked the way the name looked, but it wasn't quite "him". I added an e on the end to make his name Khale and bam! It's perfect for him and the character he became.

I don't see this being something that occurs again though as the future planned purchases I have all have names that aren't even close to the sculpt names.

    4. To date I've re-named all of my dolls, for me that's part of the fun of getting a new doll. :)

    5. I don't know if I posted this here or not yet, but I've just received another doll that will be keeping it's sculpt name (at least part of it anyway).

The doll is a liscensed character doll, a doll that was made of a previously existing character. Her sculpt name is her character's name, and since I'm keeping her as that character she will also be keeping her name. It fits her better than any name that I can come up with for her. Though admittedly I have shortened it to make it easier to differenciate her specifically from other dolls like her (also liscensed characters from the same series) bearing similar names and identical sculpts.

I call her Alter since she is a Saber Alter, as opposed to being a Saber, Saber Lily, or Saber Extra. Essentially all different versions of the same character with different personalities, with all but one using the same sculpt for the face.

    6. I hadn't intended to keep the sculpt name, but when I was casting around for a character for him, I dreamed of a character with that name. So I guess that's who he's supposed to be. It feels as if it wasn't my own decision.:sweat

    7. the only names i ever kept were 2 of my Dollfie Dreams dolls, which were character dolls (modeled after anime characters), Nia Teppelin and Rei Ayanami. and they aren't even ABJDs.

otherwise, it's pretty much part of making the doll 'my own' to change their name. even if the sculpt name is really good (example: i really like the name Yuki) i still decided to change my AOD Yuki's name as part of deciding on her personality/character/background (for example, Yuki is a Japanese name but i decided she would be Korean ethnicity so i gave her a Korean name...and to add a little irony, AoD is a Chinese company iirc).

    8. I do rename my dolls.
Most of the time I find that the original name doesn't fit the doll (in my opinion). Or they haven't been named, and only have a reference (with Corolle for instance, lots of their dolls are named Vanille Blonde or Brune... Not really names!)
I think I kept only like 2 names the same, maybe more. One with a Corolle Doll, a little dark baby named Naïma, which I just loved. And one of my Blythes was named Nicky Lad. And i liked the name so much on her, she is named Nicky ;) So I would only do it if I really think it fits the doll, which is rarely the case.

    9. I have only kept the mold name with 2 of my Volks Kira's. I have an SD Kira and then I have a Yo Kira. So to differentiate between my girls we have nicknamed them Big K and Little K. Luckily when I got my 3rd Kira she got renamed to Elizabeth. But I really liked the name Kira so I really couldn't see the first 2 being anything else.

    10. I've had it happen that I named a doll, he arrived, and for some reason I kept calling him by his sculpt name even though he had a different name >_<
In the end I just gave up and gave inn and he kept the sculpt name even once he was re-shelled into a different doll.

    11. I've always loved the naming process of children, pets, and definitely toys, so I'm not the type that can resist re-naming a doll. For me, there's an almost magical property in bestowing a name. It's like there's a mood and potential associated with somebody's moniker.

There are exceptions. If something already has a character then I can see leaving its name. If I'm going to be part of the creative process of developing personality etc. though, I'm naming it! ^_^

    12. For a while I kept calling my Volks Rose, Rose because it was very suiting and pretty. I had thought the name Aria would've been her name as I had sold my previous doll named Aria and got my Volks Rose.

I think I finally settled on a new name, Bonnie :)

    13. I love naming my dolls, it makes me bond with them so much more. And usually the company name just doesn't fit that character I have planned for my dolls. My PKF Luna for example, I love the name Luna but my doll is just everything but a Luna :)

    14. I always change their names - except for one.
My only boy; Rosenlied Juniper. I kept his name because it's so fitting! He's adorable and it's one of my favourite names anyway, so I thought "why not?" :)

    15. I always rename my dolls, but during the period where they don't have their new names, I always use their sculpt name as a "placeholder" XD I guess it just depends how much you think the sculpt name fits the image of the doll you have in mind? That and how much you like the name. Sometimes I do a play on the sculpt name, like how I plan to call my Volks Elena "Erika" haha.

    16. My dolls only keep their mold name until I find their 'real' name.
Exceptions are exceptions. My Luts Almond for example refuses any name but his Mold name as first name, so Almond it is.
I do refer to them by their mold name when talking to others thought, so they have a better image of what I'm talking about if I don't have the doll around. If they don't know it thought, I'll describe the dolls as good as I can.

    17. All of my dolls got name changes, but my fiancee's boy kept his name. Altair just fits him too perfectly! I think it depends on the type of name, though. My ex-girlfriend had a tiny and kept his name as Erik, but I don't think "Sprite" would've been a name I could keep with my doll. I guess we'll see when the family expands!

    18. I know a lot of people do.And it's understandable when you think of it. Because we do get to know the doll by the sculpts name first. But i don't like keeping the dolls sculpt name. Not very unique.Think of all the other people doing that? And BJD's are all supposed to be divisional. So,i do struggle with pushing the name through my head and realizing i re named them. But once i do i get comfortable knowing that apart from just their sculpt.

    19. I've considered, if I ever get the DIM Jullis, naming the doll Jullis. I just keep refering to him as Jullis in my head and can't think of anything else that would fit. I'm also planning on naming my Souldoll Philippa, Phillipa.

    20. i don't like keeping the name of the sculpt i like to name them myself as it makes them much personal and dear! ^^
