1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I sort-of did that with one of my crew... One of my SeniorDelf Wintery guys is named Winter. In his case, the character (as well as his partner, Autumn-) and the name pre-date the sculpt. It was just sort-of an odd, circumstantial thing that the perfect sculpt for my house-bound alchemist happened to share his name.

    2. For all of the money I'm paying for my doll, I want to own even her name :-) sounds selfish? I don't want to be given a doll with a name, unless it's some exotic sculpt named Metropolis Mesopotamia for example :-) :-)
I want to name my dolly, all by myself

    3. One of my Bambicrony Emily dolls is named Emie, but that's pretty much just a coincidence. The other two Emilys are Mariana and Lorina, so... XD

    4. If the name suited the doll and it was not a character of mine I would probably keep that name but I'm pretty picky so that may not happen. Currently I own two bjds but I choose to not use theirs sculpt names since the ones a established character and the other just did not suit her.

    5. I gave all my dolls their own names. Once they come home they take on their own character so they need different names. Plus I usually do not like the sculpt names all that much lol. :)

    6. I don't normally base my dolls on characters since I buy dolls because I like them (not because I have a story or anything, though it eventually creates itself).

My Volks Belle has kept her name. Her full name is Uli Belleluna Berihausen (because it's fun to say), but I call her Belle or Uli. I think I kept Belle as her name because I talked about her a lot before I could finally afford her (and find her), so after calling her Belle for so long it just stuck. Plus, she's absolutely gorgeous, which is what Belle refers to. :)

My other dolls have their own names not based on the sculpt name. They are named after songs or things I like.

    7. All my dolls have names but some I still call by their sculpt names and others I slowly move on from their sculpt names to the names I give them. Especially for dolls I have waited for a long time, I find that the name I give them sometimes takes time for me to get used to

    8. Yes, I have done this to some degree.

I have a CustomHouse Cebee who doesn't really have a name. She's just Cebee, but whether this will remain or not has yet to be seen.

I have another doll, a Nobilitydoll Dew, whom I got from a friend on flickr. She's the only Dew I've ever seen (company website no longer has photos of her even) and her name was Kasha. I knew her mold name wasn't Kasha, but, as there there were literally no other Dews in existence, she was a "Kasha" in my mind. She's still Kasha. ;)

    9. Most, if not all of my dolls, are based off of characters that already have names so I rarely keep the sculpt name. My non-BJDs however (my Pullip and my Isul), I kept their names because I bought them more on a whim and the whole time I waited for them to arrive, their company-assigned names were what I referred to them as. I'm assuming if I did the same thing with a BJD (buying one spontaneously, not based on a character), I would possibly do the same. Nothing wrong with that, though. If the name fits, it fits! :)

    10. I mostly belive the dolls tell you the name they want to have, as in the main idea that keeps comming back when you look at the doll/pics of it. I have some character dolls, but my first one was Zhouyu from the moment I decided to bring him home. I called him by his mold name, and could not seem to come up with anything else, even having the doll in my hands. Belive me I tried many names out, but none felt right.
My sister calld hers even longer by the mold name than I did, that is why Si still is Si, and will keep the name^^.

    11. My first doll, a Resinsoul Mei, is still named Mei :) I bought her second hand, and 'till I got her, me and my mom simply referred to her as "Mei", since I hadn't decided on a name yet, and it just stuck xD it really fits her tho :)

    12. I was just thinking that today! I was watching the dolls on some dealer's page and though that if I would buy that one I was watching I will keep the sculpt name just because I had a feeling that the name just fit to the doll. :P

I have not had that feeling before and I have always though that I will never keep the sculpt name on my dolls when I buy a new one. I think it is not wrong to keep the sculpt name at all! :)

    13. i think to have another name like the official is another wy to give a doll more personality. sometimes its strange on flickr you surch for a doll and you find another one cause the owner named her as another skulpt. for example there is a soom gneiss named mari. hihi. i was looking for iplehouse mari and found her

    14. My dolls all have their own personal names but some of them, for some reason tend to remain their sculpt name. My husband knows my dolls my their sculpt names( probably because I am usually " Oh I can't wait to get ____") But if I mention their personal name he doesn't know who I am talking about!

    15. For the most part, mine haven't kept their sculpt names; occasionally on some of the older ones, I have to stop and think what their sculpts actually are, because I always think of them by the names I've given them.

The one exception among dolls I actually own currently is Rubiana (currently a floating head), a Minimee Rubiana (surprise) cat head. The sculpt was named after the character, though, not the other way around, so I don't even really think of that as "the doll retaining the sculpt name."

Though, interestingly, I've idly considered getting a Darak Remy to be a character of mine named Remy, since the sculpt resembles the character so well; if I ever went through with that, she'd definitely be retaining the name.

    16. I chose to keep Lana as my Supia Lana's name because I just looked at her and Lana just seemed perfect ^^

    17. I have thought of it, though most of the dolls I've gotten had characters already planned for them so it didn't make sense to keep their sculpt name. I do like some of the sculpt names and wouldn't mind using the name for the doll. I have plans to get an Iplehouse Eric and even though I kinda planned to make him a bigger size Guy, I also like the name "Eric" for him XD

    18. I've gotten too used to referring to the doll I want to get as "Kaja", so I don't think any other name will stick with him. XD This is certainly not the name I planned for him, but I already have been referring to him as "Kaja" for around six months, its a habit!

    19. Some sculpt names are nice even sexy. I called mine "Giorgio" for a time even after I had given him a name. I'm thinking people probably name their bjds after other sculpts too.

    20. I usually try to rename my dolls/have other names picked out before they get here. But if I wait too long, and just keep using the sculpt name, then I keep calling them by the sculpt name anyway..even if I name them later. For example: I have a Dollshe Saint whom I never thought I'd own, so I never picked any other name. Surprisingly, I ended up getting one, and even though his name is Thackery, I never remember to call him that...Saint comes out every time..
