Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

1. I just keep it as a nick name ^^ Thus all my dolls have two names~:)

2. So, got my doll from a garage sale, and the owner knew next to nothing about her - no specs, no maker, nothing. Even googling the name on the case didn't help. Meh, oh well.
So I sat her down and thought for a while. I wanted a doll so I could have a pretty mini-me. She'd accompany me to cons, and I'd probably dress her in cosplay once I figured out this whole tiny-clothes-sewing stuff. Most of my con friends started online, so they know me by NinjaWolfess, or Ninja. And my doll would be a mini-me.. so ... Nina (Ninja without the J).

I posted my doll pics on DeviantArt, and mentioned I knew nothing about her. I got a tip towards a maker I should look into.. And go figure, the model name is Nina! She's a FantasyDoll Nina V1. It couldn't have been more perfect - felt a little like fate.

3. I tried giving my dolls other names, but when shopping for them I refer to them as their sculpt so often that the name just never leaves my head when I see them.
My one doll who has a name I still refer to him half the time as his sculpt name.
I thine kind of clothes and ideas that you have around your doll is more what makes it unique then just a name.

4. I can't really think of names for my MNF Miyu and Impldoll Gela. So for now I'm just calling them Miyu and Gela. ^^ They're cute names, too.

5. I think I feel a lot like tjkardynal. I want to pick a new name for my incoming girl instead of her sculpt name, but i just keep using her original sculpt name every time! Maybe once I've fully developed her it will come? But until then I guess the name Mirwen sticks :P

6. I have Akina who is a Realpuki Aki, and she was an impulse buy sooo She never got a proper name, Aki just stuck. Just added ~na on the end to differ it a smidge

7. I've kept the names of a couple because I feel that is their name and another wouldn't do. Mostly because I think of them as friends. Renaming for those dolls kind of feels like meeting someone new and then telling them what their name is.

8. I don't think it's very common, but I do think that whatever name sticks with your doll is probably the right one. :3 Like Tytan's name with me. I just started calling him that and couldn't stop calling him that. xD So it stuck.
I don't think I could ever call him Edmund anyways. The name Edmund just reminds me of the character of the same name from Narnia, and Tytan's barely even similar to that character. xD They probably have some similarities in personality, but other than that they're pretty different.

I also probably won't ever keep the sculpt name. I enjoy creating characters for my dolls and I believe that naming your dolls makes them even more personal as both dolls and characters. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping a sculpt name if it stuck to the doll though. c:

9. My realpuki sculpt name was Pupu. Didn't really translate well for use in the UK! I am her third owner and as she was previously called Noodles I decided not to confuse her, plus the name suits her. So Noodles it is.
I am waiting for a DZ Orlando to arrive, I will be the second owner. I will wait for her to arrive before naming her because I want it to suit her. It could still end up being called Orlando.

10. I've never kept the sculpt name, mostly because the majority of my dolls are avatars of my original characters. The few dolls I have impulse-bought, or that I've bought with no character in mind, either have sculpt names that don't really sound like people-names to me (Blaze, Long) or have names that I cannot pronounce properly. Besides, I love names and creating characters so much that I always want to give them a name of their own. The only exception so far is my incoming Dollshe Grant Philippe, an impulse buy with no character in mind. He may end up as Grant because he kind of looks like a 'Grant' to me. Or maybe that will be his surname with a unique first name. He's not even here yet, so I have plenty of time to figure it out.

11. Three of my dolls are named after the sculpt, or rather the character they're based on. My Volks Maki Tsuyoshi, Volks Shinku and Smart Doll Mirai. I got these dolls because they are based on characters I like so it didn't feel right to change their names and characters. I also have Volks Belldandy, which is also based on another anime character but I changed her name since I didn't buy her because I liked the character but because I liked the sculpt.

12. As I usually buy my BJD based on certain characters that I have, I already have the name before I purchasing the doll... or even before knowing which mold will be exactly be the one I buy. :P

13. For my ImplDoll Avery, I had called him Avery for so long that his sculpt name stuck. Plus it really ended up suiting him. But my second doll got a totally different name. So I think I have to agree with the idea that whatever name sticks is the one to go with. Both of these names were really gut choices, and they seem to fit perfectly.

14. Well, I only have dolls with a name that is different from their original sculpt name, BUT ! I have a big crush on Magic Mirror Studio Sinéad, and I believe that, if she ever come home (and I hope she will !) she'll probably keep this name because it totally suits the character I want for her^^

15. I never keep the sculpt names. I may use them to specify the doll I talking about, but all my dolls have their own names. Sometimes it takes some time to come up with a name for a new doll, but nevertheless they always chose their names on their own.

16. My "naming trend" is to modify the sculpt name into the character name. It started with my first doll, a Chiwoo. He was affectionately nicknamed Chichi, which eventually became Chorus (...which is nothing like the sculpt name in the end lol). My L-bi became Elby/Elbert, my Ryuna became Reunion, my Ada became Ana/Anathema. I like paying some homage to the sculpt name, but I also don't let it restrict me for character names. xD On the other hand I have another Chiwoo named Narcissus, and a Tommy named Eleanor.

17. I don't usually keep the sculpt name for my girls because I don't feel it was right for their characters would be called. But I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping the sculpt name especially if you like the name and seems to go well with your doll!

18. I sometimes go between calling my girls the default and given name lol...kind of a habit but really the sculpt names are kind of horrendous to me most of the time so I'd never want to keep it permanently.

19. I think sometimes the sculpt name is just perfect and lovely and see no reason not to use it if it works. My one example of this is my Ringdoll Spencer. His character is literally based around his fullset and the name was perfect so I kept it. However, I've put a TON of work into his character, so even though his looks are default...he isn't. Also if a doll of mine refuses to pick a name (assuming I didn't have a planned character for it before hand) I will keep calling him/her by their mold name. My HTT Bambee is that way, and I think Bambee is (if nothing else) and adorable nickname for her, and will continue to be so even after she finds her true name.

I will often fall in love with a fullset doll, and so I want to keep them with that look. It may be 'less creative' but if it's what I love I'm going to keep it. Same for names. :)

20. I was seriously considering keeping my Angel Fantasy Alice's sculpt name it fits her so well but I named her Pandora and now 4 years later I am considering changing her name. Maybe in her back story her real name is Pandora and she renames herself to try and escape the guilt of opening the box.
