1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I'm thinking about doing this with my Hujoo Phoebe simply because I can't really think of a name for her yet. And well, whenever I refer to her I always just say Phoebe, so the name might stick.

    2. Hmm, well, they both have good names. Amiga's sculpt name is Sheba. Comrade's sculpt name is Joshua. I could have stayed with those, but they just don't feel personal. I feel like coming up with names for them is part of making them mine.

    3. Renaming them makes them more personal so I rename mine.

    4. it's much harder for me to think about new name than few years back.. seems lesser creative when getting older orz..

    5. My sculpt's name was You and I was thinking about something that looks familiar.
Apperantly it's written as You but your say it as "Yo", so I changed his name to Yoel - which in English is Joel.

    6. I normally buy my dolls to name them so I didn't really stick to their company's name :p Unless it's a really nice name like Soul Doll Kid's Annamari or Little Monica's Kliff ^^

    7. I would actually prefer to rename my dolls. When I got Celine I didn't even know that "Celine" was her mold name, ugh. =.=" I wanted to change her name but finished keeping it because I didn't know how to name her. Anyway, now she has two names, Celine Maria. ^^

    8. I keep the sculpt names because I can't think of any better name. Except I bought a luts Bory second hand and chose to keep the name the previous owner gave her and then I have a hybrid but I don't know the name of the head sculpt. And the doll I got from my mother when she passed away, because I don't know how to properly pronounce his sculpt name, I just kinda named him after her.

    9. I don't have any completed dolls yet, but I plan on keeping the names on the ones I'm interested in so far. I'm sure was I get further into collecting them, I'll probably change the names of a few.

    10. Most of my dolls are not based on any characters from movies, books etc. So I don't see a problem in keeping a company name for them. But I usually add a second name to bring some personality) I had Iplehouse doll named Jessica Esme and I have MyDolling Olivia who's name is Abigeil Olivia)

    11. I've never kept the company name (maybe my dc debbie will be exception, but I'm still working on her)

    12. So far I've given them all different names to the sculpt name, but if I particularly liked the sculpt name for the sculpt I might keep it as that (it'd certainly make life easier!). For me, the character generally emerges once I've got the doll, so using a sculpt name wouldn't be a problem.

    13. I must confess that when I fall in-love with a certain sculpt, I generally also fall in love with the name. For example, I have ten (10) dolls at the moment and 6 have kept their original name.

My impldoll Gela is named Gela Di Blac, but my impldoll Teno was renamed Gen.
My impldoll Azalea is named Azalea Rosewater (in honor of my favorite niece)
My iplehouse Elin is named Erin Halliwell.
My Ringdoll Kirin is named Kirin Leon Roy.
My Soom Clare is named Claire Starr
My impldoll Akasha is named Akasha Kilen (In honor of Queen Akasha from Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles. Her last name is an anagram for Enkil, Akasha's former spouse in The Queen of the Damned).

Personally, I don't think keeping the sculpt's original name signals any lack of originality.

    14. Usually I would rather rename a doll, but I recently ordered a Lati yellow Jia and am seriously considering keeping it (Chinese pronunciation of it). I guess I will wait until she arrives to see if it sticks. But who knows, with Lati's wait times, it is entirely possible that i will change my mind by then.

    15. As I love the Real Pukis from Fairyland-and have 14 of them and all of my little ones are forrest-elfs I always rename them in matching family names :)

    16. Some of them I rename some of them I like the sculpt name so I keep it

    17. I keep the sculpt name up until I find the name I thinks speak to me the most for them and I usually don't know til I get them. When I buy secondhand dolls I kind of ask the previous owner if they had a name and try to use that name as a base for mine or keep it somewhat the same.

    18. All of my dolls go by their original sculpt name (unnamed event gifts excluded). I have nothing against giving dolls original names--I've helped my sister in her searches for finding the "perfect" name for a sculpt, but I don't think going with the original sculpt name is especially "un-creative," either. I don't think one way is better than another.
For me, it feels like when I "meet" a doll I'm a meeting a person. Just as I see a personality built into the sculpt, their name seems to be a part of who they are, as well. I don't rename people when I make friends with them, so I don't typically rename dolls. Again, this is just the way it feels for me. I know it's unusual, and I have nothing against anyone who wants to make dolls truly their own through naming them.

    19. im trying to name him with oriental style. i usually like to keep their original name, but the doll i bought have english name so im trying to give him new name.

    20. I think it depends on the name for me. I'm looking at getting a resin soul Mei. I really like that name, but I want her to be a little goth her, so I'm thinking of naming Luna. but yeah, it really depends.
