1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. Well, I spent four years pining after a Customhouse Jun before I finally got him from the Marketplace (bonus: it was the original limited edition doll that made me fall for the sculpt in the first place! :D). All those years, I imagined what he would look like, but never bothered to pick a name. When I eventually got him, I couldn't seem to name him anything other than Jun. Nothing stuck. :| So, I called him Junius, and that way, I can call him Jun without it being his actual name.

    2. One of the greatest things about my doll is her name! I would almost never keep the sculpt name, makes it less unique.

    3. I'm awful with names! My FCS F-34 girl is "Patience" and she's the only one who goes by her name. I hardly every refer to the others by their names and I sometimes have to really think about what their names are. :sweat I think the problem is that the sculpts already had names that I knew them by before I bought them. For instance, my Liz's name is "Grace" but I always think of her as "Liz."

    4. I know someone who named her Shiwoo just plain Shiwoo, but it always feels awkward to me when people do that. My dolls are all representations of characters who have existed long before them, so I tend to use their character names when I refer to them unless I'm being a brat (ie, calling Marcellus the El-monster when he's giving me difficulty with photographs).

    5. I have only done this with one of my dolls, and that is my DIM Rydel. I originaly got him as a practice head and refered to him as "The Rydel" or "My Rydel" but then i fell in love with the sculpt and had to get another. They ended up as twins one being Akito but I couldn't think of anything for the first one, I was just so used to calling him Rydel and i like the name alot anyway ^_^. and i dont have to worry about mixing them up when they are faceup-less cus Rydel has air bubbles over one eye and Akito doesnt ^_^

    6. I don't think I've ever met anyone that kept the name of the sculpt for their doll. My first doll didn't have a pre-existing name, nor my second doll, and neither will my DZ Aimi (who is on preorder :( ) But I do have a B&G SP-Sky on the way that is intended to be a character of mine I've had for a few years.

I like to wait until I get the doll and while I'm doing the faceup I usually name them then, unless they're just taking a physical form of an Original Character. And when they're in progress I usually just refer to them by their sculpt name. :) Pretty standard it seems.

    7. Most of my dolls don't have names because I can never find a name I'm satisfied with. I just call them "my (insert sculpt name here)".

Even my dolls that do have names are sometimes called by sculpt instead. But, I suppose if I was the type of person that did stories or photostories based on my dolls, I'd want them to have names because it would feel weird using the sculpt name.

    8. Even before I found a sculpt that I wanted, I knew I wanted a doll named "Lestat" and one named "Kain". I found a sculpt to fit Lestat (Apollo from Bobobie), and then, by pure coincidence, I found the Angell-Studio Cain and just thought that he would perfectly represent the character of Kain. :) Weird how things like that happen, huh?
(I'm not sure if this counts as naming a doll after a sculpt though, because I wanted the name before the sculpt, but oh well. ^-^)

    9. Other than with my very close dolly friends, I almost always refer to my dolls by their sculpt name, not by the name I gave them. As in, "This is my Bei," rather than "This is Artie." It's usually easier to identify a doll by sculpt, anyway.

I am, however, having a really hard time coming up with a name for the Imp Child Vivien I want. Nothing I'm coming up with is sticking, and, since he's very much a male doll, I don't think keeping the sculpt name is really the way to go here. Once I'm closer to getting him, maybe I'll be able to think of something.

    10. I don't buy dolls that don't give me their name. It saves a lot of trouble and hassle for me. :sweat
The only doll I had that kept its sculpt name sometimes and that I generally had trouble naming was my first which ended up being sold away about a year later. So, for me: no name = not pre-determined as any character = don't buy = saves money and time. :<

    11. My first doll kept his mold name :)
From there on, the dolls usually have a preconceived name/concept before I buy them so usually they get a name shortly after or before I buy them.

      My first doll, just wouldn't accept any other name xD;

    12. Some mould names just seem to naturally suit the dolls. I really think, for example, that the SDF Cyan suits the name Cyan pretty well. But I didn't name my El after his sculpt- because that's MY name XD

    13. Yeah, I have a dollzone Demi.
when I ordered her I thought really long for a name, but i couldn't find the right one.
and when I saw her (in real life) I thougt Demi suits her really wel. It's perfect.
So Now her name is still Demi and I like it.

    14. With some of mine I do. My AOD Juli just stuck in my head as Jules and my Soom Gena has just been Gena to me, it seems to fit. And my Ryungs have been just that, "Ryung #1", etc, lol.
While others I name before they get here, like my Naripon who was named Dilly Pickle before she was home. It's strange, some of them just tell me their names when I see them and then I have some for a long time and just can't find the right one.

    15. The vast majority of my dolls have "aftermarket" names. The one acception would be my AiL Glen. He was very much a surprise (contest prize), so my normal planning process was utterly skipped.

    16. I am actually saving up for an Angelheim Zion. Thing is, I really like the name Zion for him! It suits him so well. So, as of right now, his planned name is Zion but maybe once bought and home it'll change. Who knows. :)

    17. My DOD Camine is Camine. I fell in love with him as he is, and did not buy him to mold into a pre existing character of mine.

Shadowvixen on the other hand is a Resinsoul Ju. She was bought specifically to be Shadowvixen and I'm having fun turning her into that character.

    18. I have one doll and I have characters that fit that doll beisdes mine is a X-3 sclupt from Dollzone and X-3 doesn't really do well as a name so his name is Dominick (Nicky).

    19. Sometimes, I think of them as their mold name for so long, it just sticks. Like when I was getting my Heliots, I just kept thinking of them as Heliot, Heliot, Heliot. Eventually, I slightly modified it to Helios, but....I don't mind keeping the original names at all. :D

    20. yeah, i think the name Annette for the SDF Annette that im waiting for so suits her! i really cant think of many names that would...
