It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. one of my Sia's (a one-off) was on the Customhouse site as a "Summer Perfume Sia" and the name "Summer" seemed to fit her so i stuck w/ that.

    2. even when i was little i always named my own things. i hated that companies name things, cuz that teaches kids to be unoriginal and unimaginative. names are the words for one's soul, and nothing's soul is the same as another's, so names should be individual. not saying there can't be more than one doll named "john", but... i dunno how to explain.

    3. When I was saving for my Souldoll Tae, I kept referring to him as Tae, and that name kind of stuck. I wanted to change his name somehow though, so I tried to think if ways I could add to Tae, and that's how he became Taejun. The same thing almost happened with my Ryu, thankfully I had some other name ideas for him though! I really do enjoy coming up with names, so I think Taejun will be the only doll who ends up with part of his sculpt name.

    4. I've only owned 2 dolls in posession and one is on the way. Both the first two were made as pre-existing characters so they were already named. For my Ani boy that I'm waiting for... I for some reason became struck by the name Alexei so he won't be his mould. I might call the doll it's mould name to clarify which I am speaking about, but even with pullips and such I seemed to always name them. I'm definitely not against keeping the mould name though, some have killer names and I may end op doing that yet. ;)

    5. I kept the names of my Souldoll Killian, Iplehouse Aaron and Unidoll Feanor.. The names just fit so why change them? Plus, with 20+ bjd's it was a relief not to have to search for names. LOL

    6. Unless the sculpt name really suits the mould/character, I usually don't keep it. All of the dolls I have owned 3 currently, and 2 in the past, have had names that were not the ones that the company assigned to there sculpt. But who knows what the future hold. I might just keep the sculpt name on a future doll.

    7. Hmm, I don't think its unimaginative if you happened to like the same name as the doll sculptor. Also, I don't believe my dolls have souls, so I keep the name if I liked it, changed it if I didn't.

    8. i had is happen to me once with my volks Cristal but i was affraid that there would be more Cristals that would keep their sculpt name so i changed it to Kristell which in the end became Kriss, so it still is much alike her sculpt name (when spoken it sounds exactly the same) but to me it makes a difference :)

    9. I have unique names for all my dolls except one, my Bobobie Weylin. I had a name picked for him before he came....but I just got used to talking about him as Weylin, and the name suited him in the end. I suppose it could be because he is my first doll and I was super excited about getting him and I just kept talking about him as Weylin.

    10. I don't like it when the name of the sculpt gets stuck in my head, because it's like i didn't choose the name. It's like, he has a soul that someone else created, and therefore he isn't my doll.

I have an incoming doll and i'm trying hard to not think of her sculpt name too much before i have a chance to see what she looks like (different hair/eyes than the promo) and then give her a name.

these dolls are so customizable that they emphasize uniqueness so I guess I can't help but think this way. names are important, they are given by those that create the recipients.

edit: my, my, it seems more people are mentioning a doll's soul tied to their name than i expected!

    11. I find it hard to get used to calling my dolls by a new name, and normally like the name of the dolls I buy anyway.....but if I liked a doll but hated their name I'm sure I would have to change it!:)

    12. For me... yes and no. My EL's name is Cadell - which coincidentally and quite on purpose incorporates his sculpt name, but not completely. Did I initially set out to choose such a name? No, not really. But when I found the coincidence, that stuck the name for me.

    13. Lol I don't even have him yet and I refer to him by the name I'm going to give him. Calling him by the sculpt sounds too weird since it's not /him/.

    14. I keep the names of my dolls, I usually ended up keeping their character too as I usually bought the doll before I get to the story...

Like for white cat Chris, he's still called Chris, because it is really white cat Chris that I like, not someone with the same face as Chris. same goes with shiwoo twins, I don't think I like the name shiwoo too much, but they do look like shiwoo... if that make sense... perhaps it's because I've got so used to calling them shiwoo before I bought them that the name simply got stuck in my head... f-31 however, is a real problem... I actually want to keep calling him thirtyone... but that is sorta odd...

    15. sometimes I feel obligated to keep things a constant with the company's name/story. my Mom still calls my doll,Reika, Emma, since it's the mold name and I guess she feels it goes better with her appearance. I sometimes feel bad about changing doll's names from the original sculpt name, but if it does go well with it/ I can't think of any new name, I may keep the sculpt name or base the name on it~

    16. I've fallen so in love with Mihael... Umm... Leekeworld Mihael that I'm actually unwilling to change much about him. I think he's the only doll I'll ever order with a default faceup. I'm keeping his hair colour and style the same so aside from his clothes (he will obey the doll world I've set up dammit) he'll be pretty much the same. I miiiiight toy with his eye colour. Maybe. But I've taken to calling him Mihael. When I think of other dolls I want, I either think of their name in a very detatched, loose way or think of their mold instead but with him it's Mihael (Mello probably has a bit to do with it). But he's NOT allowed because there are no Nords called things like Mihael in Oblivion :|

I might compromise and call him Mihael in secret :sweat Also... to the people that don't know what Oblivion is or who Mello is, sorry if this post didn't make much sense. :)

    17. I don't feel as if the need for naming a doll is for fear of being unoriginal. I think it is for the doll owner to feel as if they're really 'owning' the doll. Am I making sense? Sort of like a christening thing. It's like "You're a part of my family now, so I will christen you with a name."

The original doll names for me is not so much a name, but an identifier of a certain sculpt, so if the doll keeps their name, the name might as well be a serial number to me.

    18. For the most part, no... However, the CA Misha who is on her way has just stuck with that same name. I just can't see her without seeing her as having a name like Misha or Sasha or something like that. She might just stay as Misha, especially since there are so few of that particular mold around. Honestly, I haven't seen another one. D:

    19. Well, all of my dolls have different names. For my Soom Aren I decided to change just one letter, making it Arem. I like the sound of that. ^^
Keeping the name is depending on changes your doll went through becoming yours. I know a person who had her doll named and renamed her after changing her character (including looks). ^^

    20. i change the name if the name doesnt fit the doll i have made them into.
But i have an ih Jessica who is and always will be a Jessica. Tan Luna is still Luna.
My luts smmer is Summer. MA Deneb boy is now lane and MA Vega is now Lita....
      Lanes older sister.

Luna's love interest and Jessica's X-best friend. Jessica likes being the prettiest girl here but

best friends to Laurie my Limhwa half elf. Laurie is Lita and Lanes little sis. then there is Elfdoll Bambu....
i havent made her a name or even thought of her as anything else but the girl with pink hair.....
