Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I decided to keep my sculpts name. I am getting a kid delf Bory and i love his name. I can't really picture it being anything else.

    2. Sometimes I'm tempted to do this... but mostly not.

My Elf El and Elf El Vampire have names that start with "El" (Elurin and Elureth). Some will start with just the same letter or a similar sound, or have some sort of reference to the sculpt name... but not the exact sculpt name, at least, so far!

    3. I will always wonder now what might have been if I had kept Fei as par of Xavier's name. His character is an angel but only recently did I discover that Fei means to fly or dance in the air, would have made a nice middle name for him.

    4. I still call my Domuya Bobo Bobo. Because... he's such a Bobo, I couldn't picture anything else suiting him. I also call my minimee Beast Vincent Vincent because something else would just seem kinda...dumb.

Everyone else, though, either goes nameless for too long a period or suffers with some silly thing or other that I've thought up! :) In a couple of cases they've told ME their names, but that kinda talk gets you a quick trip to the nice quiet padded ward...

      ETA:
And it's the same Bobo, and he's STILL ebil! ~_^ and still Bobo ;)

    5. I use the sculpt name when describing my dolls because I don't give my dolls names. I used to name dolls when I was little but now I think that if I name it then the name may not suit if I want to change their look.

    6. With my dolls, it wasn't really an option. I like the name Kyle, but I have a good friend of the same name, and he is anything BUT a pretty skinny model boy... also my boyfriend would get suspicious if I named it after him, lolz. Also, Elfkin isn't really a name, and kind of sounds cheeky and corny to begin with, haha. Haruka is nice, but I want her to be a dark elf, and Haruka sounds too happy a name, so that's out too. Not to say I'll never do it in the future, but so far there's just no reason to!

    7. I did this for about a month with Mercutio, I just called him 'Morant' because I love the name (still do), and it seemed to really suit him, until I saw Bereczki Zoltán as Mercutio and suddenly, I had a name for him (and didn't want the blonde wig anymore XD)

So far, I haven't had any others whose sculpt names click with them like Mercutio's had--Michaeyl doesn't look like a 'Woory', Purrpurr doesn't look like a "Pukisha", and Spock doesn't exactly look like a "Weylin", and Benvolio doesn't look like... Okay, he kind of looks like 'Ducan' would fit, but I'm still calling him Benvolio. ^_^

    8. Actually this is one of the problems I've been thinking on. I love the DoD Ducan mold and a character came into my head and it just FIT ducan like..name and mold and everything haha. But i was like 'but it's the mold's name!' I considered duncan ( a variation of the name ) but if the name sits right why not?

I don't know. I don't think I'd look down on anyone who named their doll the same as their mold...maybe if it was really an obvious copy ( ie you just bought every item on the doll as advertised and kept the name ) but i think it'd be just dandy to introduce a doll 'This is Ean, she's a DoT E-an!'

    9. Well when I got my Bobobie Pandora...I just kept the name Pandora...I thought it was a cute name ^.^

    10. i only have two dolls right now and i had names for them before they arrived, i have around 9 dolls planned and only one doesn't have a name, dollshe saint. hes one of my dream dolls but no name seems to fit him. so ive been calling him (i talk like hes here but hes not lol) saint or my saint. i'd like to find a name for him eventually but who knows. maybe he will always be my saint

    11. I've never heard of anyone keeping the sculpt name before. o: I've actually never even really considered it before. . In my opinion, I think it's fun to come up with a unique name for the dolls, but to each their own. xD

    12. Several of my dolls have kept their mold names, while others I have given names. My Luna I kept Luna because I adore that name to begin with and have for years, Nono kept her name because she was my first doll and for some reason I just kept calling her Nono and it stuck *shrug* Yuni has been Yuni for almost a year now because I couldn't think of a name, but tonight I found one! So I am actually changing her name from her mold name to her new name tonight. So, if I really like the mold name I keep it or if I can't think of a proper name to suit the character at the time, then I use the mold name and sometimes it just sticks ^_^

    13. I'm too lazy to rename any of my dolls :blush

    14. I couldnt get a name for Hiroki.. who is a fairyland Riff.. so i called him my fairyland boy or Riff (at first it was hard to change)

for Keita my Ys b from Crobidoll ... i called him my crobi-boy .. until i got the name i reallyed liked.. which was Keita

    15. I'd prefer to keep the sculpt name if it suits them just perfectly, so far it hasn't happened... except for with Soom Amber and Soom Chrom, my sister and I have two characters named Amber and Chrom and then we found these scuplts and the sculpts fit well with their characters and strangely had the same name. So in my case, it hasn't happened, coisidentally two will get two keep their sculpt name.

    16. I have used, and LOVE the sculpt names for all of my dolls except my Bobobie Sprite. I had to name her because her sculpt name is more a description than a personalized name. But also, she is the one doll I have that I bought to be a specific character and not just because I wanted the sculpt for the sheer beauty of it.

So my Sprite is "Gill" (short for Gillandria). But my Winny, Ren, Ami, Andrea and Bbjorn are all named thusly because it's what their sculpts are called. I just loved the names and they seemed such a part of the dolls.

Andrea and Bbjorn are even going to appear in a professional comic I am working on. As Andrea and Bbjorn. LOL!

    17. People are interested in dolls for many reasons, and many people are drawn to ABJD's because of the customisability, which is an awesome factor, indeed.

Personally, I was originally drawn to these dolls more for the realism of the sculpts & the posability of the ball-jointed bodies. Most of the dolls I've collected in the past already have a name & 'personality' associated with them, so the idea of naming a doll is relatively new to me.

In addition to that, sometimes the name of a sculpt just seems right for that doll's name. Iplehouse EID Evan, for example, just looks like an 'Evan'!

So how many of you have kept the name of the Sculpt as your doll's name?

    18. I have a handful of dolls that have yet to get names from me, so until they do, they keep their sculpt names. Usually, I will refer to them by their sculpt names also, even if they have one I've given them, simply because it's easier for others to know what I'm talking about. If the name suits, I think it's perfectly sensible. I don't have any that really say, "Keep my name!" to me yet save for Iplehouse Luna in the grey skin; the grey somehow makes that name seem incredibly appropriate for her.

    19. I haven't, but my sister has.
She has 2 dolls and both have the name of their original sculpt.
      This has 2 reasons.
1: They're both full set. So it just seems right.
2: My sister claims she can't think up entire characters and stories (not a dreamer much) to customize and name a doll.

    20. One of my friends has, and I really like the sculpt name of a couple of the dolls on my wishlist, but I think it would bother me.
Partially because, yeah, I want them to be my own, and naming seems like a big part of that. It just gets exponentially more difficult to find a name when the sculpt name fits so well it's hard to tear away from. IP's JID Tatiana was like that for me; I had a really hard time figuring out what I wanted to name her. (Haha, and she's still just a wishlist doll. O_o;; )

      I mean, I wouldn't hold it against someone or anything. It doesn't really make them less creative in any way, it just means they liked the name. Oddly, though, what does bug me is when a doll is named with the same sculpt name of a different doll that the same company produces. Mostly because then I get super-confused. >.>;;;;;
