1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Oct 28, 2009

    1. I sort of have/will for two. I'm currently waiting for Souldoll Tae to arrive - he'll be named Tai, unless another name really sticks out when I get him. I'm also planning to get an AoD Bo who will be named Beau. It's not intentional, just seems to fit I guess.

    2. That's a good point--that name is priceless!

    3. I've kept most of my Volks dolls' names. Their names always seem to just sound right to me. I renamed my other three, though. The names of their sculps didn't really strike me as actual names so I made some new ones up. So really, for me, it depends on what the name of the sculpt is. If I like it, I usually keep it.

    4. So far I only own one and such so I can't say I follow with the mold name as dolls name at the moment... I seem to find I will name them something that strikes my fancy....
If the name of the mold though felt 'right' I might name them after it... but might not be there first name...

Though my first doll was secondhand and I oddly ended up incorporating the original owners name as part of the new name...

    5. I haven't, but I might be tempted if I ever get a dollmore Ipsae. I name pretty much all of my dolls in the language of where they came from, and Ipsae means new leaf in Korean. It's very similar to the style of names my other dolls have.

    6. Have you ever kept the Sculpt Name as your Doll's Name?

Never. I could say it is because most of my BJD characters are (my personal vision of One Piece manga and anime series characters) already existing ones, but I also gave other names, different to their sculpts, to my few own creation BJD characters. I like it that way. I think it may happen the name you read and the one you chase are a same one, but that has never happened to me.

    7. Although none of my dolls kept their mold names, some dolls have the perfect name that the company gave them. Right now I am smitten with Iplehouse Jessica, and when I get mine I will probably be keeping that name. Unless of course it doesn't seem right. I don't base my dolls off of characters, and none of mine have a backstory (tried, can't get into it) so I call them by the names that fit.

    8. I have never kept the sculpt name for the same doll, but I did name one of my characters after a sculpt who had a name I adored: My Chrom is named Morant, after B&G's doll.

    9. I haven't kept the sculpt name yet but I want a JDF Terra and I love that name. Also with my other dolls the first letter of their last name started with the same letter as their sculpt name (I like connections).

    10. Yeah, my Miho is still Miho... i've yet to find a name that is 'him'
I usually have trouble naming my dolls, i'm not really creative.
Bonnie is Bonbon, Flora is Petal <--yeah... not the most creative person ever...
Lily is Sookie (cos i gave her sad eyebrows)
Cupid and Cupid2 are Hunni and Cheeki.
Piki, Shiwoo and Beyla are both sticking to their sculpt names so far...

    11. Haha! Yeah, I could see that. Somehow, that seems even less creative to me!

      :ablink:

    12. It's possible. All of the search terms I could think of that seemed relevant to this convo were deemed "too common" by the query engine, so I figured it can't really hurt to start a new one.

The worst that happens is a mod sees it & moves it to the existing conversation. :)

    13. For mine I just add his name in front of the sculpt name, so he's called Daniel Homme Ivan lolx.

    14. I think that's more my situation, too. I am coming around to the point where I've decided that my incoming Iplehouse Akando will be named 'Ismael', is the son of a Turkish father & Mexican mother, & grew up in Mexico City (he might have a trust fund, too... but he won't be a jerk about it ;) ) & that one of the SID boys will be his boyfriend.

I'm definitely not opposed to the whole "this is my doll & this is his/her name & she likes XYZ & these are her hobbies" thing, it's just a matter of the sculpt name sometimes seeming really appropriate, y'know?

Oh, I can appreciate that, too! Iplehouse Mars is on my wishlist, too, & I think he's really pretty, but I don't think 'Mars' is really a name I could see for him. He looks more like a 'Dominic' to me, don't you think?

    15. THIS!

A big part of my likes them as dolls and I'm looking forward to making clothes, dressing them, maybe creating scenarios & photographing them, but I'm not coming from it so much from the POV of getting a doll to represent a character I've seen or created & admire.

    16. I... mostly keep them. By the time they arrive, I've thought "I'll get X" so often that X is her name.

    17. Yes, my AIL Elijah kept that name because it just suited him,( although his nickname is 'Blue'). So far none of my others have kept the mould name though.

    18. I only did it once. Usually dolls get a name before they arrive or shortly after. I've been looking forward to my new dolls for quite a while until they arrive, so there's usually some sort of name waiting for them, but the one that got to keep the mold name was a gift from the doll company to make up for messing up my order (I got the head for free). I never planned for this doll and "Davi" seems to suit the geeky look the mold has.

    19. I've never done that before. But if I found a sculpt and the name given feels right, I don't see any reason for me not to keep the original name.

    20. Yeah, my mom and I got a Luts Soony as our first doll about 5 years ago, and her name still is Soony. It's a pretty name, and we actually know a Korean girl with that name, so we decided to leave it.
