Have your dolls ever gone completely against your intended plans?

Aug 31, 2014

    1. My first is still in the mail, but I have been working on his story and at first he was going to be shy and sweet but now he's just going to be an asshole xD

    2. I always hope that my dolls would look like what I've planned but....when they arrive, they just look actually different from what I've imagined, so I have to change my plan to suit them instead. Somehow I feel like dolls have their own style and personality which we can't change them easily.:sweat

    3. Yes, they periodically do something on their own.
From wigs and eyes - when I plan a certain colour to fit them and it completely doesn't.
And ending with actualy not being the characted I planned them to be.

One of my dolls came home and in a few months became a complete new character, with a new name, new story etc.

I let them take "their own" desidions. It makes them more alive.

    4. This happens to me sometimes as well, where a different wig looks better, or different eyes. Sometimes their personality isn't what I intended, but I just work with it and let them turn into who they want to be :)

    5. Sergei was supposed to be blonde, but brown wigs look much better on him. He also has a lot more childish sense of humor than I imagined, but that's probably because the sculpt has a bit of a smirk (at least he seems to). He definitely prefers a bit more formal clothes than I originally planned which is making my wallet cry a bit, and if I decide to try to make clothes he demands nice fabrics that are difficult to work with.

    6. Yes. My AS Kimo got a make-over to save himself from being sold. He wend from casual boy to andrygonous cyber gothy person. My MC Michelle was supposed to be an ice fairy creature, but insisted on being a ballet dancing ghost. Two of my girls have lost their characters and are W.I.P again. One of them is the make-over queen here, having had many wigs, eyes, clothes and face-ups. My Soulkid Maa didn't want to wear the green eye nor the chocolate wig I had planned for her. So, I hope the incoming ones will stick with what I planned for them. My first was supposed to be black haired, but became blue haired instead, then blue x black and now.... I've won, he has black hair. xD

    7. I bought one of my dolls with a firm idea to repaint her face and make her look like another doll which I wanted to have, but would never have afforded due to her rarity and high price. So, I bought the doll... and couldn't make a repaint! She seemed to pretty to have her face wiped off :)

    8. This has definitely happened before, yes. With my first doll who did a complete 180 in both character and appearance at some point, completely out of the blue, while I was plotting something entirely else, and with my poor neglected Obsidius that I had sitting around unfinished ever since I got him 3 years ago.
I think what pushed him over the edge was really just ... a random wig I got in a lucky pack, haha. I slapped that on him, just to see the fit and PAHM - new character idea. Best thing that could have happened, because I was getting really frustrated with this doll and my lack of inspiration for it.

    9. Well, when I bought that Volks Emma head I was gonna have it share bodies with my two SD13 boys. However, once she had arrived here, she made it very clear she wanted to remain a girl. So now I'm paying off her body. Her name's Franziska. So much for being Fric's little brother - she's gonna be his big sister now ...

    10. I bought my Luts Lemon girl to be a character from a particular book (Veralidaine from Tamora Pierce's The Immortals quartet), but as time went by I lost interest in the author's work and I was never able to click with or complete the doll, so the other day I sat down and completely revamped the doll with an original character. Her name's now Valli and while she has some things in common with the Pierce character - she still has an affinity for animals, for example - I've changed most things. I'm now feeling a lot more comfortable with her, but it was a bit of a surprise.

    11. when I ordered my first doll I was image her having colorful hair and colorful cloths. I got her a curly wig that had 3 colors but it just didn't fit her... I cut it and straighted it and it looked better but still... no.
I order another wig that was pink/orange and it suited her much better and now she has a white shirt with a flower pattern skirt and small cape. So yeah didnät turn out what I planed really. UvU

    12. Yep. My first SD was second hand off a friend. Tried to do her as a smart casual styling, and it never worked. Now she wears red leatherette leggings and corsets.

My dream doll was supposed to be geeky and wear geeky tees and jeans etc. She now wears lolita. Which I never planned for (that's been a fun sewing experience!)

My first pukifee was supposed to not like pink. It's half of all she wears.

My pukipuki was meant to be a faerie and wear faerie things. She mainly rocks a gingham romper, or a jester costume.

In fact, only two of my dolls arrived and actually wore what I was expecting. My dream doll is still a very similar character, and none of them changed names, but it is still a surprise to find that they are so different to what I intended!

    13. Oh my goodness, yes :XD: I thought I had my first doll all planned out character-wise until I got my second, a hooved guy, and he threw the whole story to bits! I love him though so I'm still trying to figure out a new story for the two of them

    14. Freyr changed his hair only at first, but now his clothes too. From a nobel elf to a more biker like elf. I just hope he behaves when his wife arrives XD
Sieglinde was a total nude doll, I only had a few eyes for her, so when I went with my aunt to the Think Pink store, she 'spoke' to me, she is now a little rocker with purple hair :D

    15. Yeah, my current doll is going from being this dark, mysterious gothic looking chick to a more hipster look. I just think she'd look better that way. XD

    16. When I imagined my first doll, I imagined she would be a timid red-head with glasses and braids. She'd be flustered all the time and speak softly.

Now, she's blond and not timid at all. She's confident and knows what she wants, but still takes it easy.

It certainly surprised me that she became like this, yet it seemed very natural :)

    17. I've had a couple do this. Early this year, I won a doll in a raffle who I thought would be a terrific fit to one of my characters. I got her blue eyes (which turned out to be hazel), got her blonde wig (which turned out to be too small), did her faceup and dressed her, and she just looked so grumpy, no matter what. It didn't matter how I posed her, what I did with her, she just kept looking grumpy, and I eventually decided to reshell the character.

Since she was a raffle prize, I don't feel right selling her, so I decided that she needed a new character; when the new doll shipped, I pulled off her wig and clothes, redressed her, and then went to my wigs and... only had two. A bright yellow, and a nearly black. Now that I've dropped that dark, nearly black wig on my formerly blonde girl, however, she looks much better, and has lost her grump! (She won't be keeping that specific wig, but now I know what color range and size to go for, and she may end up my first short-haired girl.) Meanwhile, new eyes are being made for the new girl, and the old ill-fitting wig from the first doll is a perfect fit to the new one. :)

I've also got some little fantasy dolls that I'd originally planned to be dark, goth, punk creatures... but they're rejecting that look, and wanting to be lighter elemental creatures instead. They're at the bottom of the list for aesthetics, but I've become less blocked on their looks now that I know that!

    18. I have been through a lot of wig rejections. Even the one I got custom made fir a certain character ended up in a box. Only one doll still has the same wig I had originally planned. And now they are so attatched to their own looks I cannot change a thing anymore.
Plotted character went gay/girly the minute I got him (didn't work after all) Character that was more sweet turned out highly sarcastic. And if I am not careful my LTF's will turn out too mature for what I intended.

    19. This week one very firmly told me -while in transit- that he would not be as I had planned/hoped. He was quite adamant. I waited until he arrived to see, b/c I really wanted him to fit MY idea. Well... he won. Dang it.

However, I try hard to match the dolls beforehand and not force it. I was, admittedly, trying to force this one. I so wanted that sculpt to work for the character I was trying to shell! Back to the drawing board.
      Double dang it.

    20. I thought I had everyone figured out, but after some time away I suddenly noticed that everyone's aesthetic was completely wrong and switched a bunch of things around. Max was supposed to be a redhead, but ended up switching wigs with Niki, who had wavy brown hair. Niki also ended up giving his glasses to Yuri, whose face they suited far better. [Yuri wasn't even supposed to have glasses to begin with...!] Max and Yuri also ended up switching clothes. Everyone seems almost complete like this, final wigs, aesthetics and eyes all around. It was fun seeing everyone suddenly come together like that.
