Have your dolls ever gone completely against your intended plans?

Aug 31, 2014

    1. i brought a girl to make shy, adorable girl. So I prepare lots of long hair wig... curly, straight, brunette, blonde, black.. but a one wig, the pink thing - just buy it...just colour was beautiful- short pink wig was 100% suitable for her! like a naughty girl lol So I just give up, and bought her more short wig... lol lol

    2. Every single one..........sigh, so I've given up.

    3. Yeah...this happened with my Soom Phonolus, Asmodeus. He was originally supposed to be named Cain. However, after looking at the sculpt more (while still on wish list) he just looked more like an Asmodeus. He was also supposed to have long silver/white hair, but he has short dark gray hair. As for his clothes, he was supposed to be fully clothed in a victorianish kind of style, yeah now he is supposed to only have his bottom half covered. Because of these changes, his concept was turned around. What was originally a rage demon, is now more of a lust demon. That big change I started to think of shortly after he got his lovely face-up lol. It is totally what I wanted, but I realized after seeing him that a concept change was in store.

    4. I'm having a lot of trouble with one of my girls right now she wants to be a weird mishmash of what I originally wanted her to be. I wanted her to be a jerk but she keeps wanting to be a quirky little funny/friendly tomboy and I don't want that, I don't want her to be nice, I wanted her to be an asshole. A smug, cares only about herself and one other, may have killed someone, asshole.

    5. Yes, yes she has... her story is still the same but her appearance has changed. From mix hues of blue hair to almost a white blonde... from violet eyes to red and blind...from a cutey to gothic... and her name has changed a few times too... I love my girl and she still might change some more.

    6. I just got a head that I was planning on using as my lil YOSDs big bro, they were gonna both be readheads :p He doesn't even have a body yet and I already feel like they aren't really brothers so I am not sure what's gonna happen but I can feel a 180 coming!

    7. Yes, several times. I think my biggest turnaround though was my Souldoll Tiffee, who was supposed to be a little blonde girl (and was for years) but ended up a little dark-haired boy.

    8. I think the better question would be "Have your dolls ever gone along with your intended plans?" ;)

None of the two girls I bought so far are suited for the character I'm trying to shell, it's driving me mental. I suppose it's fine because I can shell minor characters into them but it's been a big waste of my money so far. I'd so much love to just find the perfect sculpt for the character I'm trying to shell.

The first sculpt I bought turned out to be a loud and extrovert girl that enjoys life to its fullest extent. The second sculpt is much closer to the actual character but the face-up is not expressing what I want, perhaps I'll buy a new face-up for her. She's a little too depressing to look at for the moment...

    9. This happened to me with two of my boys. I intended them to be a sort of "casual, cool" style. I really loved how Crobidoll dressed their dolls on their website and wanted that for my boys. I tried sweater after sweater and many different pants and jeans, and nothing seemed to work for them. But then I took the plunge and tried to make them "cool". I always have admired those gorgeous outfits dripping with details, but never thought that I could obtain this for my own dolls. I commissioned two outfits for them, each costing me about $180. When I put them on them, they came alive. It was absolutely perfect. I couldn't be happier!! I just wish I hadn't waited 4/5 years to do it for them.

    10. Well, I had a doll that once I got him, all my plans went caput because I just didn't like him. :/ I had props and fabric ready for him too. Ended up not using it at all.

    11. I usually wait until they arrive to have them tell me who they are, but even that sometimes doesn't work... I bought a KDF on the MP last summer and she's spent all this time as a blonde but suddenly she's decided she wants to be a redhead. She also wants new eyes and a new face. Once her makeover is complete, I hope I can get a handle on who she's become!

    12. I used to say I'd never get into boy dolls and I have 4 now (not including my Zuzu boys)! Then... I said I'd never have two dolls for the same character and I recently just got an adult form for my baby character! So yea, never say never! XD

    13. This has happened for both of my dolls so far. I planned for my first doll to wear tans/light browns. She wore an assortment of tans and browns for months, but now she prefers darker hair and a very bright and fun style, the complete opposite of what I originally wanted for her. For my second, I planned for her to be a light fairy. Started buying the pieces for it, including a wig, horns, and the perfect wings. I was so excited once the wings arrived only to quickly learn that I'm allergic to something the wires or the coating on the wires is made out of. v.v;; Not a total loss though since the wings work fine for one of my brother's dolls and I still love the wig and horns for her.

    14. This doesn't usually happen to me... I have had dolls switching 'theme colour' (Florie was supposed to dress in blue and Kundry in green, but somehow they swapped), but nothing extreme. There was just the one, and it was entirely my own fault. I bought a Narsha Zihu off the marketplace, intending to wipe her face-up and turn her into a wild little boy. Only, when she arrived I thought her face-up was so nice that I couldn't get myself to remove it. And though I gave her strange yellow eyes, she just looked so sweet and girly. She pretty much forced me to come to terms with the fact that she would be a little lady and not some rough-and-tumble boy. I had no choice but to get another Zihu to be the character I had originally wanted to shell... :P So now I have lovely Zihu twins. And I have learnt not to buy dolls with nice face-ups if the face-ups are not actually what I had in mind for the character ;).

    15. Yes, this has happened with my dolls too. Five times so far:doh.

My biggest surprise was a Yuri B head I first made into a glamorous elf lady that I just really couldn't bond with.
She just seemed rather colorless to me and the character I had made up for her lacked depth and detail.
'She' has since turned into a beautiful but decidedly male drow.

I love him very much now, he's by far my favorite doll, but before I made that change the head had been sitting
on the shelf unused for nearly a year.

It has certainly taught me to be very patient when deciding on a dolls character.

    16. All the time. If I didn't know any better I would think they had a mind of their own.
      (I don't know any better.)

    17. Every time! I have tried to lay out character and style before any of my girls gets to me and so far it has been a huge waste of money. Everyone was going to be really modern type girls. NOPE. They have moved to the misty seaside of Ireland, one is a seer and the other some fae creature, and they have a very old world type feel to them. It is strange and frustrating but fun at the same time. They as characters are asserting themselves and I get to explore more about their world.

    18. Yes, though it is a lot to do with clothes and shoes availability.
My latest boy was meant to be a sea-loving hunk, then he turned out better in a dark red wig so he became a spirit of the wind and sea currents, then he changed colour (he whitened) and he is now better in an 'Angel wig', i.e. shortish and slightly wavy like some medieval angels have, and the face up I gave him (not yet finished) shows him with a twinckle in his eyes (I still don't know how I did that as I am a total beginner). So now he is a scrawny scruffy sinewy boy who loves to joke.

    19. Yes, oh , yes. Iplehouse dolls have minds of their own, I swear. Carina was supposed to be a gentle, demure, mystic Egyptian princess....but declared even before being removed from her box that she was a bold pirate queen. Kamau, I also wanted to be an ancient Egyptian....but somehow he decided to be a surfer dude who wears Hawaiian shirts, board shorts, and puka shell necklaces. Contrary creatures, these Iplehouse dolls.

    20. ^ This. So, so much this.
My IH Bianca (sic!) kept me in the dark about her true identity for more than a year, until after her big sister arrived (who, unlike her, is a main character in the story). But she still insists on keeping her old clothes, even though Jo was supposed to be wearing girly stuff and be a rather fashion-savvy person. Now she's a punky/gothy kind of girl and not at all who I thought she'd be.
