1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Hobby "Breaker", Breaks or going on Hiatus from the hobby

Jul 11, 2013

    1. Like Widu says on the top I do agree that priorities changes a lot through your hobbies, and that is my case of going out and coming back. I really enjoyed being in the hobby looking through dolls and lots of blogs. But even though I leave hobby I always come back like having vacation out and always coming back to the home.
      I left the hobby even before I owned my bjds and I was half in half out of the whole hobby, then I came back after meeting a friend who invited me join the DOA. It's always nice to have someone who have same interest with you in a hobby and let you motivated ;)

    2. Yep :) Apart from playing Magic (lost interest) and pen and paper roleplaying (well, except for once a year due to lack of time), I never left any of my hobbies permanently :)

    3. I took a break from the forum, from buying new things, and even from my boy for awhile. Since I got him, he's gone with me to grad school and been with me through several jobs. Getting another doll was pushed further and further back due to being busy and lacking funds. I never thought I'd give up the hobby completely, though.

      Recently, I have a new job and been able to save for my second doll. I'm so excited over the 'new' companies that sprang up in my years away from DoA, and it makes me eager to browse them and see what new pretties are out there. (I'm only sad if I miss a limited sculpt I like.) I buy sculpts based on the OCs they would fit, and the companies I've discovered lately have renewed my interest in the hobby. Particularly Doll Chateau and Angel Battle.

      Like a few others have said, I'm not always so active on DoA, having so many other things to do in a limited time, but since I've come back to the forum, I've already been making new friends. Doll hobbyists are some of the friendliest people! Often they even share my other interests like gaming, illustration, or writing. That connection is another thing I miss when I'm taking a break.

    4. I've never taken a break for quite that long or have left the hobby, but I do go through phases where I'm less interested and don't do much with my dolls. I never stop wanting them and I always come back even more excited than before. I just love how creative this hobby makes me!

    5. I too, go through phases of being insanely in love with dolls and researching, watching, looking, thinking about dolls to being not so interested and doing nothing with them. I find it good to take time out of things, like a hobby where things can get hectic (amount of dolls, companies and whatnot there is). But I always like coming back and seeing what's new, what's going on!

    6. I've totally been off and on with this hobbies; I've found for me it depends a lot on the friends I'm hanging out with. If I have a lot of local friends who are into BJD's, I tend to be more into them. Or a good RP partner. :) I got into BJD's forever ago via a local group, then I moved away from them and completely fell out of the hobby for about three or four years. But now I've moved to California and I've joined this forum specifically to try and hang out with more local BJD people! I still love the doll I have, and I've had him since the beginning.

    7. I left the hobby for a number of years due to personal/relationship problems and then getting caught up in another hobby which sucked up all my money. Now that I'm looking at dolls again, I do find catching up on all of the new companies and new molds super intimidating... and I'm also disappointed every time I see a mold I remember liking discontinued. Joining DoA was a good decision, there is a ton of great info here to help me figure out what's what!

      Sadly, I'm still pretty overwhelmed and I'm not sure I will ever be "full steam ahead" about the hobby the way I used to be...

    8. Just not having anyone to share the fun with I guess.... I always feel like I really wish there was someone I could talk to about my exciting little doll crew.. but it just feels like people outside of the hobby just don't get it,... and don't freaking care. >__>;

    9. I've been in the hobby for 6 years. Back in 2010 there was a major fall out with people in the hobby and I lost interest for a while. Then I had some relationship problems, I had no job, no money. It all just piled up and I left the hobby for, in total, maybe 18 months. I got back when life gave me a change. Last year life caught up with me again and I left the hobby for 7 months (one of the reasons was again some people in the hobby). Although I still had dolls coming, I did nothing with them and they were kept in their box for months. I've been catching up now, since november. I bought 4 dolls since then and sold just as many.

      Do I think there is anything that would make me leave the hobby? ... No. I never considered selling all my dolls in the 6 years i've been in the hobby. The only reason I can think is money, but I would still not sell my 2 first dolls.

    10. So, I just moved to the university last Thursday, and now that I'm settled in, I would like to announce that I'll be taking a break from the hobby, as Grace (my April Story Stella) is being supervised at home while I'm focusing on my studies.

      That being said, what do y'all do to keep in touch with the BJD community, and/or cope with being away from the hobby? I would love to know! Until next time, have a great day, and take care.
