1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

how did the myth of "tan dolls are harder to care for" get started?

Oct 16, 2012

    1. I basically kept my tanned ReChe in his box for years because I was so paranoid about him getting damaged. He sits in a cabinet now, sometimes the sun falls on it but I haven't had any problems and I'm installing a curtain soon. He's exactly the same as when I got him five years ago.

    2. I want my first doll to be tan and this thread was super helpful. Thanks to everyone who posted.

    3. I think it was more of a warning that restoration would be much more difficult/ impossible since you couldn't get the doll back to showroom new using conventional methods. And it's not a myth. Dolkot tan kiss (2006) had a major problem with turning green when exposed to the sun for a short time. Scratches are much more noticeable when compared to white/ "normal," and there are colored dolls that have faded into other shades with time/ uneven=sun exposure (Bambicrony MB Elf Kumi). While yellowing is an issue with all our resin dolls, white and "normal" skin can be lightly sanded and coated and look fantastic. Tan? You would lose a lot of the color, even if it was colored resin inside. My Sharron (DOT Black Elf Sha) has very noticeable seams and company sanding. If he was scratched I'm guessing it would be just as light.

    4. I don't know how it got started, but from my perspective, I have a harder time dealing with my white skinned doll than my tan one. My poor white skinned doll got horribly yellowed with her previous owner, and I think she's gotten worse since I've had her. My light tan doll, however, is fine. I've had him for two years, but he was made in 2009. I take him outside very frequently and he's still the same color. There are definitely differences between lighter dolls and tanned ones, but I don't find tan ones harder to care for.
