1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. I think it was 2005 when my friend showed her first BJD through webcam - I had never seen a doll like that, it instantly got me interested. So thanks to her, I got into this wonderful world of dollies! ♥

    2. Do you happen to remember which doll it was? ^^
By the way, I'm from Finland too : 3 (sorry for the OT)

    3. Good choice! They're the sweetest little things ever. (Not that owning one has me biased or anything ;)

    4. I've always loved dolls, particularly fashion dolls like Barbie, because they looked so much more realistic than the baby dolls I had as a child! But I knew absolutely nothing about BJDs until a couple months ago. I'm a member of a knitting community, Ravelry.com, and one of my friends there, HiddenTohru, started posting pictures of her dolls, and the dolls she wanted, and well, that was that!

So now I am saving for an ever-lengthening wishlist! :D

    5. I think my friend used to have an avatar of some bjd in MSN messenger. As I saw how beautiful it was I asked her about it and that's how she introduced me to these dolls. :aheartbea Even though this happened over 5 years ago, I still don't have my own bjd..

    6. Well hey, everyone have their own pace ^^'' Took me a couple of years too.

    7. It's not a particularily interesting story, but here it goes anyway:

It was all thanks a to a friend of mine (who also is a member here - her username is Sato). She had shown me and some friends her dolls and talked a lot about them, but I was a little unsure about wether or not I should get one myself. I mean, we're talking about HUGE sums of money here! However, one day I just thought to myself "Hey, maybe I should check out some of those 'ball-jointed dolls' Sato is always ranting on about". So I did, and I wasn't too impressed - before I saw the most beautiful little resin toy I have ever seen. Iplehouse Gentle Freezia. My heart went BOOM BOOM, and my fate was sealed. Now I have owned her for two months, and she gets prettier every time I see her. I'm also awaiting her handsome boyfriend, a human version of Souldoll Chiron, who is on his way home at this very moment!
Fun fact: I was the last one out of our certain clique of friends to buy a BJD. But hey, better late than never, right?;)

    8. (giggles) Love at first sight ; )

    9. Mattyjumper: Yes it was huuto.net XD So thanks to huuto.net I am now addicted to these dolls :P

    10. Hehe I guessed so :----D

    11. Last year, a bit before my birthday, my boyfriend asked me what I gift I wanted. We spent a long time trying to find something, as I didn't know really what I wanted, and then I said ''I want a BJD!'' and he said yes....it was kind of a joke, but now I'm happy I said that!
It's been less than a year, and I now own 4 BJDs and a head~ 3 SD, un Yo-SD and the head is a SD head.
And my boyfriend got 2 dolls, SD as well. =)

All that starting from a joke.

    12. Another one joining the club ; ) and thanks for sharing : D

    13. I was never really interested in dolls when I was younger, prefered lego and knex xD The single barbies I had, ended up decapitated somewhere in a corner xD

But a few years back I met a friend of a friend on a fantasy fair and she was carrying her doll with her. I thought she was pretty and took care of her sometimes during the fair but was determined that dolls weren't my kind of thing xD Waaaaaay too expensive. But, I got interested and joined a forum "just to see the pictures and maybe get inspiration there". One thing led to another and a few weeks later I was checking company pages and 4 months later, my first was on his way xD

That fair is almost 3 years ago now and I collected 5 dolls so far xD
Guess I'm weak (but not sad for it :p)

    14.
    15. I can't remember it anymore...
Seriously. I totally forgot. First thing I remember is that I started to save up for one...

    16. Haha I like this one :D

    17. I saw first BJD doll closely less than couple of years ago. That doll belonged to my friend's girlfriend (now ex-one). It was love at first sight. And soon I ended up to to register myself to a Finnish BJD-site and not far from that I bought my first doll.

Now I'm owning three of them and more are yet to come :D

    18. Hehe I guess seeing them in person does leave a strong impression : D

    19. By realizing the gorgeous photography I drooled over featured dolls and not people haha Then I saw a Beyla on BJDCast and I knew I had to own one. :D

    20. First I had one friend who owned a doll, and I kind of knew something like BJDs existed. Then the disease spread to her best friend, and they sometimes brought their dolls to school. I remember saying something like "They're indeed pretty.. But still, they're so expensive, and besides they all seem kinda scary" (you can imagine the explanations that followed the "scary"-remark). Well, that was for a few days, and then I got to actually carry one of the dolls, and it was simply lovely. Then I positioned him and tried different styles on his fur wig and took pictures with my phone camera of him all day.
The next day I joined a forum, browsed through like fifty BJD shops and found several molds I wanted, and knew I'd buy one. Now, 2 months later, my first doll is on the way and I'm planning on ordering another one by the end of the summer... :sweat
