How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. Well I have my neighbour Pinktezka to thank for my interest on BJD dolls. I remember she used to show me Hoojo and Blyth dolls she had bought to do face ups and sell on. She did this to get enough money to buy her own BJD. She now has a family of 9 and I am catching up with my family of 4. I just got my new boy today so I am really excited:)

    2. Hehe gratz on the addition to your family : )

    3. I enjoyed looking at bjd-photos for a long time, but I never thought I' d get one as in my childhood I was never fond of dolls. Once I looked for some hand-made stuff and I ran into a web-site which offered not only different things and materials for handycrafts, but also some bjd dolls. And there I saw HIM. The descision was quick, I found the necessary sum of money and in about 1,5 months he was with me)

    4. As well as majority I knew about their existence from a computer, begun with pictures,, knew then, that they were named BJD and all other, I understood after, that a dream can become reality....ordered

    5. My best friend introduced me to her little cutie and I love him. Then I decided I wanted one to take care of too after "Drinysitting" :) Thus, it began! haha

    6. Heh I wonder which sculpt it was that conquered your heart like that : )

    7. I simply saw photos of them on Deviantart. :)

    8. DA = inevitable bumping into BJD

    9. I was introduced by a friend. Well... sorta. She told me in a conversation she really wanted one and later i looked them up and I fell in love and have been stalking ever since.

    10. (giggles) Well I hope one day you'll be able to get one of your own!

    11. It was in November or December 2009. I was bored and decided to check out what my friend was doing in the other room. He was sitting in front of the computer and showed me a BJD, Shoyo 2, and told me that he likes her and really want to order her.
I also thought she was cute and allowed him to buy her as his late birthday present. The price was okay because I was already familiar to expensive dolls due to my grandma.
When she arrived I fell immediately in love with her - few days later I ordered my first doll :D

    12.:aheartbeaI was in a bookstore and was looking around and saw a Haute Doll book.
      Loved them ever since.:aheartbea

    13. I've kinda always liked dolls, and was just casually interested in BJD's, without ever intending to get one. After all, they are just dolls, right?

      Wrong.

A really good friend of mine started talking about BJD's about two years ago. Since I already knew a bit about them, and didn't think it weird, she kept talking to me about them. At first I was not so sure why she was such an enthusiast, because I didn't see what was so special about that type of doll, and I didn't like the joints, but she seemed so into it, I got very curious to see what all the fuss was about.

So I started looking at more dolls, and I liked them more than I had when I first heard of them. I also really fell in love with DollZone Aurora. :D I love her hair and her face, but was slightly creeped out by her clothing. It was a bit too undressed for me.
I still love that doll... but will probably never own her. :(

When this friend started talking about this one specific doll, MiniFee Woosoo Vampire Elf (Boy), I went onto the fairyland website, and found the 2010 Winter special pukipukis. I love them all!! And I have Medeleine (Winter Bear) on order right now. I also have LittleFee Lewi FullSet on order. I just couldn't resist. And I have a layaway order for two SD dolls from Dreaming Doll, Lovely Sally and Molly. :aheartbea

So although it seems that I have just impulsively bought four dolls after being interested in BJD's for only a couple of months... I really have liked them for a while and since Althy the aforementioned friend was getting a doll too... I decided to take the plunge and join the hobby.

So how did I discover the hobby? Its all her fault. :)

    14. Thumbs up for your friend!
And heh, I really enjoying reading these long stories : D thanks for sharing!

    15. I can't remember... it kinda feels like I've always known about them. I remember that at some point when I started having some money of my own, around 05-06 I started to look for specific dolls that I had seen at the time in DA and decided that one day I would own at least one of those dolls. At the time I had decided on Homme Kiril, fell in love with him so bad D: He's still on my list, so maybe one day I will have him XD
But no matter how hard I try, I can't figure out where I saw my first bjd :/

    16. I'm being framed!!
[When you tell your parents, to explain the 5 dolls that will suddenly accumulate at your house, are you going to pin it on me too? X3]
It's kinda sad but I don't really remember how I discovered BJDs. I wish I did. I actually first found the Sweet N Honey website and it all kinda escalated from there (never lost my love for the MNF Woosoo VE Boy though XD).

    17. The way it happen for me was one day i was looking for information about a doll that my daughter has with string or elastic inside of her just like our BJD's i found a photo of her on google and next to her sat a BJD doing a comparison after that i started searching and found them on ebay, and also found DoA so i guess thats how i found out about BJD's.

    18. I used to collect anime figures and plush toys, so I would always check collector websites like animeDolls or attacks of the animetoys. Then I got hooked on 27cm dollfies because I saw them on the website. I never owned them, but would always admire them and save pictures of the ones I liked. Then, I saw a super dollfie on both websites and began to look more into. At first, they didn't appeal to me because they did look scary, and not cute at all. Years later, I decided to get dollzone aurora to use as a sketching and sewing model since my fashion teachers recommended it, and now I am hooked :)

    19. I was chatting with a girl who I knew because we were fans of a band, and I said to her that I was willing to spend like 120 Euros or something like that in that band's merchandise store (I really didn't knew her in person) and she said: Cool, but I'd better buy a dollfie. And you know, I searched ''dollfie'' in google and found out that they were dollies that in some way look like humans :3 and I totally liked them, but when I searched for the SDs in Volksusa I found out that they were really expensive. So, I turned BJD crazy girl by a complete strange!

    20. I have seen some of bjd photos in the internet since 3 years. I'm not pretty sure but I think they are DOD. But, at that time, still not seriouly be interested. One day I past by a toy shop and I saw something in the window display. They are little lati yellow Bjds sit in group. That is the first time I saw Bjds in person. I almost can't breath! They are so lovely. Since then, I searched from internet about every Bjds things and then...I can't stop crazy for them until now.
