1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. I came across BJDs because my one friend has a couple, and i thought they were so beautiful...I asked her about it, and pretty soon after bought my first doll, a DZ that i named Genly. That would have been about 5 months ago i think.

I just ordered another DZ...they are definitely my favorite kind to own.

    2. My sister has dolls for a long time. I just loved Pullips but my mind has changed (╯▽╰)
She gave me my first doll for christmas present and I fall in love.

    3. I have collected various dolls for many years. About a month ago I was searching for doll shops or doll shows in Wisconsin and happened up on Dairyland and DoA. Seeing these beautiful dolls for the first time I couldn't wait to get one. Checked online and in fact bought three and they arrived in time to attend my first meet up in Madison, WI. At the meet up I purchased a full set Pukipuki and bjd infant. I have definately fallen in love. I now want a Dollmore-Delilah!

    4. First time I saw a BJD, was when I was browsing around for a korean band called JYJ and found a JaeJoong (one of the members) doll on someone's blog. I thought he was the most amazing thing and so beautiful, but didn't know where or how to get him. I didn't know he was a BJD, just thought it was a regular custom-made doll. Occasionally, I would come back to that site and admired him until I decided to post a comment on the owner's blog to ask where she got the doll from. Never got an answer from her so I forgot about him. Then one day my cousin mentioned Asian dolls, so it gave me the idea of googling it. I typed Korean dolls and somehow it led me to the Dream of Doll website. I started doing more research, learned as much as I could about BJDs and here I am today. I still don't know where that person got her JaeJoong from though, but I still really want him.

    5. My oldest half-sister had an MSD sized one (can't for the life of me remember the sculpt =/) for the longest time that she took out for every convention I saw her at. Of course, I didn't see much of her up until she got her second doll, a CP Yder. She had come to my parents' property for a picnic and had brought him (and his box!) along to show him off, since he had just arrived earlier that morning. I saw him and instantly fell in love :D At that point, I asked her where she got him, and she later sent me the link to LUTS (later a few other sites as well), and I can't even count the hours I spent browsing that site. I didn't even know there was more than one at that point!

    6. My friend (Myuuchan) introduced me to them, and later when I showed interest, this board, when she was waiting for her Runey to come in the mail.

    7. Fun question!

      (loving reading all the responses...)

My first time seeing BJDs in person was at a woman's home ~ where a group of fellow Himstedt Doll Collectors were meeting to see her amazing museum of dolls. She has an AMAZING collection of just about every artist out there...
And upstairs in the museum, it's all BJDs. It blew my mind how such little dolls (in comparison to Himstedt dolls) were equally priced. But, their individual beauty and intricate clothing and accessories fascinated me.
It took me a couple of years to decide to buy my first one ~ after Annette Himstedt stopped creating new dolls and taking all my money! lol!
But, now I have a dozen or so amazing BJDs that blend SO well with the rest of my doll collection ~ I love my resin family!!!
(Volks SDs and MSDs, Bambicrony, Fairyland pkf and ltf, SecretDoll, PeaksWoods, DIM, and soon SupiaRosy)

    8. Actually my friends have had BJD for a long time and they introduced me about 2 years ago :)
Then I started to search for all kinds of BJD info and had the first BJD later.

    9. I came across a doll-table at a convention once, and those dolls stuck back in a corner of my mind until the day I saw a gallery of Super Dollfies. When I was little, I used to pose my action figures and snap photos, and I found a good way to take up this hobby again, with better models this time.

So I clicked myself onto a shop and fell in love with a doll. And the rest is history.

    10. Isn't it awful, but I just can't recall! All I remember is the photographer in me fell head over heels instantly for FL dolls.

    11. My story is a bit strange but here it goes. I love the manga Angelic Layer by CLAMP the idea that dolls could come to life at the will of their owners and interact was downright awesome to me. As an animator this was totally possible through stop-motion animation. I just needed the right doll to start. Many dolls on the market were stiff like barbies and were useless to me. One day I discovered a photograph of a ball jointed doll and thought she was so beautiful and life-like, but what I liked most about her was her joints! So many pose options, I had to know more. I've been researching (and still am) bjds since freshman year in high school to find ones that are small but have lots of points of articulation. It's been a long ,fun journey :)

    12. My story is simple :) I was on Dojicon a few years ago. I got lost and accidentally walked into the room, which previously I didn't notice. That was dollfie room. I immediately knew that I fell in love. I was looking for my first doll about 4 years and now I have her ^_^

    13. Thanks to the internet. I was googling for mummified fairies pictures (forgot why I did that for:sweat). Then I saw some adorable fairy dolls and click, I ended up on BJD collectasy. Then I clicked on the link to Ringdoll. And tada! I started knowing what BJDs are. All thanks to my beloved internet!:aheartbea

    14. One of my friends show me her doll and told me about Bjd´s world. A year later, I bought my first doll ^^

    15. Some friends dragged me into it kicking and screaming. :(

    16. I was infected by the BJD virus by a good friend who had a honey delf pitta. She decided to show me the luts website and I fell in love with SSDF Regen. I've been hooked ever since.

    17. SWell, a year and a half ago my friend started talking about bjds. She showed me a picture of her favorite doll Iplehouse Amy. I thought that they look so real and beautiful. Soon I created a bjd character and here I am today. 8D

    18. I believe it was a year ago or a bit more. I found BJD through one of my friends (Panda is her nickname) that is interested in cosplay and sewing like I am. She showed me the Dream of Doll site first and then the Iple house site. That is when I really fell in love with BJD and slowly plan and save to get my first doll.

    19. About three years ago when I was around 12, I was just browsing the most recent submissions on Deviantart when I came across a cool picture of a doll. I had never seen anything like it, so I commented, asking what it was. At the time the words "soom" and "bjd" ment nothing, so I simply replied "I've never heard of it, but it looks really cool", and that was that. I would see pics now and then until last fall. What began to happen then was that I would find myself looking at dozens of doll pictures every day and would end up watching bjd videos on youtube thinking "wait, how did I even find this video". Then, after much research, many videos, and deep thought, I realized I was in love with these dolls. They just were invading my mind and it was fate. I got my first doll for my 15th birthday last winter and am saving up for my second.

    20. I got to see a lot of BJDs while tending my table at conventions, and that got the thought in my head. I got a pullip a few months ago but I've decided I much prefer the "artsier" bjds. I tried sewing for my pullip but it's not an easy task and I realized how much more I prefer the larger size for ease of clothing creation. They're also much more visually pleasing and I can never say no to something pretty, regardless of what it is. :)
