1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. I also found pictures of someone's BJD's through their Deviant Art account. Now here I am with an off topic doll and saving towards my first on topic girl, an Iple House JID.

    2. It started form Blythe. I found this doll's pictures accidentally (I think I was looking for pictures of other dolls then), searched for more and google offered me a picture of Dollmore Narsha, who knocked me down when I saw her :D

    3. I first discovered pullip dolls a few years ago, and then I met a friend at my school, who owned one. We went to AnimeNEXT together, and there was a dollmeet so he brought me along. :)

and now I'm in the process of saving up for my own bjd! :D

    4. Man I don't even remember how I came to want one, I had seem them around the internet and initially thought they were pretty weird, but I have a feeling I probably came to really like them through my love of Lolita fashion, since many people who like the fashion are also into BJDs. I'm surprised how I really don't remember...

    5. I was into anime during middle school, in highschool I got into Visual-kei than that turned to Lolita and then during that time it came to Dollfies because well they are connected to every single one of those things! xD otherwise I knew about them but found them creepy like they wanted to steal my soul! but now for some reason I suddenly fell in love! I went to the dollfie meet up at Fanime and it made me really want to one even more! xD

    6. I used to love dolls when i was younger, but drifted away from them for a few years. By chance i found an off topic doll i fell in love with, but she was stuck on a barbie esque kind of body (smaller dimensions though). I started looking for more poseable bodies, found out about Obitsu's and eventually wound up at Junkyspot and found BJD's there. Including finding the first resin i'd own.

    7. I was on Deviant Art looking up fanart when I noticed some one had made their BJD cosplay as the character I was looking up. I was curious so i started to look up BJDs and i found this one person who's gallery was filled with photos of her dolls and ! fell in love with them!

    8. I also first saw BJDs on Deviant Art years ago just by random browsing. I remember I saw the doll and I was confused if it was a person or not. I checked out the rest of the person's work and I was amazed by the beauty of the dolls, and I really wanted one! Sadly I was a young teenager with no money so it didn't happen.

    9. I've seen people carrying around dolls at Anime conventions, but I never really thought anything of it till i stumbled upon a book titled, "Japan Ai: A Tall Girl's Adventure in Japan." by: Aimee Major Steinberger. In one of the scenes in her book she illustrates her visit to the Volks store. She had tea with the president of Volks and had a doll ceremony. After reading that I went to the Volks website and was instantly hooked.

    10. For myself I began with cosplay !

I was looking for informations on a french forum, and I saw a "pullip"

It was interesting for me, so I found a french forum about pullip and BJD

And I bought pullip at beginning (8 in all)

But now I have only 2 pullip : a Rovam and a Rida custo

And I bought my first MSD, a Dollmore Shiloh, and a second ....

      Now I have 11 BJD !

    11. I first ENCOUNTERED these wonderful things in my Early teens at the city train station. many of the Alternative crowd 'hangers' would be holding them.

It wasnt until much later that i actually discovered what they were, when a friend ended up being a collector/seamstress for them, i got to talking about them and turns out A LOT of my friends had them.

The final Nail was when i started reading Danny Choo and saw Mirai and Saber all over his posts, i just had to have one. though it was still another 2 years before imade the plunge to buy a D.O.T. doll. (I loved D.O.D's look of 'not quite real not quite anime')
so my love developed over the years starting out as mere curousity. but i can honestly say im glad i found out about these dols, even if my bank account hates me for it!

    12. I discovered BJD when Google seemingly misread my request.

I was trying to find Porcelain dolls, as I had one as a child and I wanted to see one again. They're rare in Australia. Instead, it took me to LUTS where I spent many a nights studying them. I ended up moving onto other sites to study them too. I still love LUTS and I plan to get my first doll from there.

    13. I saw people carrying them around at conventions, and I also saw photos online. I started collecting anime figures in 2009 as well, and saw BJDs that were owned by some figure collectors.

    14. I was on etsy, looking at random things, when I happened to stumble upon some article of clothing for a bjd. I was really intrigued, did some research, and now I have one, and I'm saving for another. :)

    15. OK, this is 100% awesome. I hope you take pix of her when she's done (S/P is my Storm Hawks OTP too =).

As for how I got here: I'd seen BJDs being carried around anime cons and the like and didn't pay too much attention, but then, about two years ago, my friend Laura fell head-over-heels for the Soom Monthlies and started sending me and sistinas (we live together)links to look at. sistinas really loved their look ("pretty demon boys!") and eventually gave in and bought one. ..then more. Well, when both your BFFs have dollies you see them all the time, and they were just so pretty but looked so cold and haughty, and I began to think, I could really fall for these if I just found one with a gentler expression...so I began to cruise the websites...and I found a Luts Delf, Dambi, with the shyest, sweetest face. (You can see his pic at the link in my sig.) And that's where it all began. =)

    16. Well I started collecting dolls maybe around 8 or 9 with American girls. I continued to like them though and they became more of a collection and less of toys. Through American Girl Dolls I discovered Pullip dolls and I currently have 5. Another forum I am on, Dolly Market, has a subsection for BJDs. One day someone posted pictures of their pukifees and I fell in love.

    17. I was snagged at anime conventions as well. I was able to resist until I went to a BJD meet and an older lady let me hold her custom Chii. Once I held one I'd caught the bug. My then boyfriend and now husband bought my Nono for me right after we got back from that convention (which I paid him back for as I could). I never thought I'd own even one because of the price but he enabled me and now I have 10 O_o

    18. My little sister was the one who introduce bjd to me. She showed me a picture of a doll, a Luts Soony, that she found very beautiful and I was impress to know to such dolls existed. I didn't made further research thought, it was only a year after, when I was bored and remembered the doll my sister showed me, that I decided to make a search. I found the site and looked at it with more attention and fell in love with a doll xD Back then, I thaught that I would never have one of these dolls because of their price, but a year after, I had one ^^ Funny thing is, I have BJDs, but my sis still doesn't. But after seeing my dolls, she is thinking about buying the doll she fell in love with years ago ^^

    19. I discovered them through Deviantart... I loved looking at ABJD photography. It was the beautiful photos that really made me want one of my own~ I also began seeing them a lot at conventions and began asking people where they got them from.

    20. I found out about BJD in a magazine article more than 5 years ago or so.
That magazine article showed pic of Volks and Luts doll. They dolls were simply gorgeous. I was so taken by one pic of Volks (I remembered it was SDC Arashi, my first crush) that I looked up Volks and Luts BJDs and found out how much they cost, how exclusive they are and how hard to get them. That kinda put me off BJDs for a long time. Well, what do you know, now looks like I am interested in BJDs again.
