1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. I first saw ABJD's at a doll convention and it was love at first sight! I had to have one! I think this was around the fall of 2007.

    2. I first saw ABJD's in a yaoi one shot I was reading. The main character bought this doll that was circulating on the web and said to be possessed. Then the doll came to life, and he was such a brat but they fell in love in the end. But on of the guys friends was creeped out by the doll and destroyed him, so the guy dropped out of school and spent 10 years learning how to make dolls so he could fix his love and the soul would come back. I thought the story was really sweet and started looking on the internet for one of my own.:sweat

    3. I was introduced to BJDs by my best friend in high school. She had shown me pictures and from there I did my own research on them, trying to figure out which ones I wanted myself. She then got a quite beautiful girl herself as a gift from her family and that was the first BJD I had seen in person. Her mother is an avid collector of realistic dolls and she, herself, had collected toys throughout her childhood, but with BJDs being so expensive her mother didn't get her an asian ball jointed doll until she was 17. I have only recently been able to get dolls, getting my first doll, Effie(rs yao), as a xmas present last year.

    4. I heard a friend talking about Super Dollfies and I had no clue what she was talking about. I Googled it later, found the Volks site and fell in love. After I got my girl Asha, I learned there were other companies that made BJDs. I bought one off eBay and then I looked at many other Websites (thanks to this forum!) and was hooked. :)

    5. I found out about BJDs by lurking around on deviantART - they were intriguing, and I did want one, but I could never afford one until recently.

    6. A long time ago I saw a photo of a BJD. It was a really nice one... It was a dark tan with a silver wig and orange eyes, and a purple/silver/black female rockstar outfit. I wanted it really bad. It was like, $400-$500 from the maker. I decided I'd look for a cheaper one but didn't know what I was doing so the search didn't go far. I wish I could remember the make/mold of that doll. Sadly, by the time I got the money, the sale on the one I wanted had ended so I gave up on bjds for several years until my best friend got one, and I remembered how much I wanted it.

    7. I'd been on Gaia and one of the people I talked to pretty regularly on there had quite a few dolls and she loved talking about them. I honestly didn't get it. I didn't even know what they looked like until she linked me -- I thought they were like porcelain dolls at first. I still didn't get it, even then, but whatever makes someone happy, right?

...Years later, here I am, haha!

    8. I have no clue where I first saw them. I do remember reading about dollfies on a french site yet I never bothered to look it up. A year later around may I got a package and it got stuck at customs so I looked up info through google. Then I stumbled across someone's lj. It had a pic of a bjd and something about a package not getting through customs. There was a link to doa and I clicked it out of curiosity. The topic was old and there weren't a lot of new replies so I also asumed Doa to be a old and less active forum LOL Guess where I am now? It's kinda funny thinking about how I didn't seem to have any intrest in them at all at first. Until I saw some DA artist's bjds that same year and now I have a whole family of them.

    9. :)haha!! i was hunting like mad these moondreamer dolls I used to have when I was young- they used to glow in the dark. And then I came across bjds and realised I needed a big wallet!

    10. I searched somethings online, then I found that many people like collecting dolls. Then I started to search somethings about dolls and I bought my first doll after one week.

    11. I'd been into dollshouse / 12th scale for some time and frequently browsing the 'dolls' section of ebay... Had see a few bjds on there without thinking far beyond 'how much??!!' - until I randomly saw one I really loved of course, and it's been a rapid progression since then!

    12. Growing up, liked standard playing dolls. I watched Rozen maiden, then googled shinku to find VOLKs had made a doll of th character. I fell in love <3

    13. Here's a write-up I did on what got me into dolls (and ABJD in particular), complete with a photo!!

    14. I looked for the old jointed dolls or manikins to purchase when I was old (oh shoot, I am still old :)) I wanted to pose them and use them for art reference material. I usually looked on eBay; then I discovered YouTube!!! The search was on again; I entered the tags "jointed dolls" and there it was, those three beautiful letters "BJD", then the search got more beautiful and more beautiful....oh, and then the search got more affordable!!! And then, I found DOA.

    15. I don't remember exactly how I found out about them.. but at first time I didn't like they very much.
One day I decided that - of all these dolls At least there must be a good one! so.. I found a IH Bichun)) and realized that this is love) since I've seen a lot of dolls, many were like.

    16. I found out about it on DeviantArt. I was watching a photographer (hiritai) who owned then and photographed them. I think I was watching her for about 3 years. And here and there I would always run into different artists pictures of Leeke Mihael. And I loved how he looked. So I finally went onto hiritai's youtube and that's where I found out about them. And from there I went on to research more and here I am! ^^

    17. Well it was a hobby of my new sister in law. It was somthing for us to get to know each other and bond over be for I married her brother. So she showed them to me and introduced me to DOA. Now I have my first doll on layaway from her and I am supper stoked

    18. I decided I wanted to sew clothes for dolls again like I used to when I was a child. So I started by making a stuffed doll with realistic proportions. But it did not pose, so that was boring. I was looking up how to make joints and followed a Google search to the world of ABJD. Then I realised that they came in SIZES! So I would not be stuck making clothes for small dolls. So I bought two and have one more on order.
And making doll clothes is even MORE fun than I remember.

    19. I was in love with a girl and she had two Luts-boys. Her and me never happened. But my love for BJDs was forever. But it took me two years before I got my first, an Iplehouse J.I.D Tania and last week I ordered my second, an Iplehouse J.I.D Daniel.

    20. At first, only my friends were impressed with bjd´s. I was skeptical and I didn´t like these dolls very much. As well, I hadn´t so much money. But from time to time, I wanted to know more about this topic and so I searched the Internet for information. There I found very lovely dolls and my heart beats faster. Nevertheless, in my mind it was to expensive. But in march 2012, my lovely friends gave me a little doll. From there, I begann to love bjd´s really. She was so tiny and cute :D
Meantime, I have three dolls....so my little doll family will grow. ;)
