1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. I first found BJDs when I was following a few action figure customization groups on Flickr back around 2006. There were a fair number of people who did work with both, and I thought the idea of a huge figure-type doll was brilliant, so I hunted one down for myself.

It was still several years before I realized that there was such a diversity of BJD options though - prior to joining this forum in 2010 I'd had no idea about 85% of what was out there.

    2. Honestly, I would see these stunning dolls at my local Anime Conventions in costumes, and I'd just sit and drool over them, wishing I had the funds to get one. After getting a moderately-well paying job (And thinking for about six months about if I really wanted one), I saved up enough for my Romeo BBB, and am still waiting for him to arrive so I can play with him. <3

    3. I discovered them looking through DeviantArt, when I found some photos of the same kind of dolls I began to investigate because I was very curious about it.

    4. Saw a doll I liked in a picture on the internet, and entered the lottery for her some weeks later. One of the few times that advertising worked really well.

    5. Used to be crazy into fantasy art, went browsing Amy Brown's website. There was a section labeled Dolls, I got excited thinking there were fairy dolls based on her art (there are now, but this was eight years ago!) but instead it was all clothing for these mysterious "Luts Volks" dolls.... One Google search later I had found both the company websites and DoA. You can kinda tell how big I was on her art from my first doll, who has a gypsy fae look and swirly faceup.

    6. Hello. I was looking up dollhouse dolls and saw Heidi Otts dolls and thought they were cool. I wanted a doll that I could pose and dress and "play" with. I found a picture while looking online for the perfect doll for me and found BJD's. I saw a whole bunch of really cool dolls and came across the tinies!!! I was in love and even though they are expensive my husband bought one for me for mothers day... I still don't have her but a resinsoul yu will be the resident for my dollhouse.

    7. i found out about BJDs in a little bit different way~ I watch a LOT of asian dramas and movies and kept seeing these dolls everywhere! xD (Some in horror movies, but i still wanted one xD)

    8. I pulled out my old dolls from the attic cleaning out. I found a 1974 tiffany taylor doll. (worth like $10USD) anyway, i said oh i loved this doll, maybe i will keep her out to look at. then a week went by and i said, ok she needs a friend her size.... then UH OH... i have a bunch of MSD BJDs!!!!! can't stop now!

    9. Someone I used to follow on DeviantArt bought a Dollfie Dream and I instantly wanted one. I eventually began to stumble upon the beautiful BJDs during my research but was easily deterred when I saw the price(the first one I saw was a Luts Junior Delf Terra. I remember only because I was into Death Note and he reminded me of Mello). That made me lose interest for a couple of years until I found a Doll Family XyiangYi that I fell in love with. Surprisingly, a Crobidoll Yeon Ho was my first doll.

    10. i loved bjds probably for 5 or 6 years before i finally got one. The price is what dazed me to never get one i found out about them through an anime convention i went to i was intrested but i saw the prices and ran away i finally got one because of a deal i made with my mom on me oweing her money and wanting one for a birthday present.

    11. I used to have best friend who was owner of BJD so somehow like this.. that's why I love Crobi so much I guess. First boys I have ever met face to face lol.

    12. I think I saw my first BJD in middle-school on one of my schools laptops that students got to have for the year (You have it throughout the school year and then give it back at the end and then get to have it again the next year so the school DOES own it). I also think the first BJD I ever saw was a Fairyland Chloe in her fullset. She was just so pretty. I remember searching around until I came across FL's site and was scared off at the price (Come on, what normal teen without a job can AFFORD something like that!). So while I admired her and looked at a few other dolls on their site, I just closed the web page and forgot about her. Fast forward to my senior year in 2012, it was a few months before graduation and I remember looking on different doll sites because I came across another BJD picture again. My goal to get a doll could actually be within my reach because you usually get money for a graduation gift so that was one of my hopes along with mowing money I had saved. I was SO interested in BJD that I went and did a paper on something I found interesting for one of my classes and found some BJD pics (including Chloe lol) and printed them out to add to my paper. Those few months before graduation I remember researching what doll I wanted and so (not to kick my self in the mouth) went with a cheaper doll that I loved to see if I really loved the dolls like I thought. I did. Now today I have seven resin dolls, two OT (27cm Obitsu and Azone) dolls, three on the way, and more planned. My first doll was a Bobobie Mei and my second was an Xaga Doll Nono. I love them dearly and I do have my favorites sadly haha. It seems I set trends as well, I've gotten my sister into BJD and she is getting dolls faster than I seem to now 0.o, weird lol. I also have gotten another friend into them and now he has one. I think it'll be a few years before I get FL's Chloe, because I want MNF Celine a lot. Other than that, it's all history. I'm hoping to get my first Luts girl in the next week or so (a KDF Coco) and no matter how many dolls I get or what people say about them, I love them all. :)

    13. Somehow I ended up on the Volks site..I think I was looking at Jennys or Blythes. I knew then (years ago) that these doll were going to become very time consuming and that then wasn't the time. Now is a better time. Plus I have a 10yr old partner in crime. She is oblivious to price tags at this point. But she is helping with the list of our doll population. So she's already sucked into the hobby.

    14. I saw a picture of a doll on the Internet, and clicking on the link I found a site))

    15. I discovered BJDs becouse of Deviant art. I started to see some pictures of these beautiful dolls and i became curious, and i´m talking like three years ago maybe :)

    16. Oh! It was when I went to this really not so popular mall in town about 4 to 5 years back when I was 15, there was this shop (now closed down) displaying these dolls. Me being an anime otaku fell in love with them straight away. So I went online..deviant, official sites to see more about them etc. I kept hoping to get one but I was only able to get one like in 2011...as my birthday present from my Mom! I'm quite happy she's okay with me into this hobby.

    17. I first found bjds from a comic on smackjeeves where the author used her bjds for the story. I always thought they were interesting but I never did any research on them. Then fast forward a few years later someone on deviant art had linked to the luts website showing a little anthro doll I searched around the website and fell in love with the pine. Then I did more research for that year I found Asenva and a bunch of people on youtube and fell in love with the hobby. I still have no dolls but I hope to get one soon ; u ;

    18. It was about...2 or 3 years ago at my local Anime Convention. I saw people carrying them around, and even a few people displaying them in the Artist Alley with things they make. I didn't really ask about them then, but a year later I finally started to ask questions and look around on the internet for more info. Then, last summer I bought my first one!

    19. The first time I saw the BJD-doll on the photos from a girl in her diary at the Dairy. By now I was looking for a large and beautiful doll for yourself. But the store did not have what I wanted. And here's just something that must be!
I began to question what this dolls, as they can be bought and so on. It was in April 2009. And th July the same year came to me my first doll:)

    20. I found the hobby will looking at cosplay makeup tutorials and found this one to make yourself look like a doll and at the end the girl held a bjd and I thought it was beautiful so I looked them up and found my girls sculpt and I am so happy I found these beautiful bjds and plan on being in the hobby for a long time
