1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. Through deviantart, a loooong time ago. I was really into Dir en grey at the time, and I found someone who had a DIM Minimee sculpt of one of the band members...it was history from there.

    2. I was messing around google looking at barbie repaints/reroots when I first stumbled across a picture of a BJD. I'm pretty sure that it was a Luts Lishe, and I followed her picture to Luts & found the Dollshe boys. I was pretty much instantly in love with the idea of dolls that were so beautiful and customizable, and the SD size delighted me. :kitty2

    3. i first started seeing them at anime north last year, i thought they looked interesting, so the more i looked into them, the more i wanted one, so i finally got one. plus some of my friends were into the BJD thing, they helped me get into it.

    4. I think I found them out when I went onto a website called figure.fm for anime figures, and saw that many people had these wonderful dolls... It took me a long time, but I finally found a job, saved up and bought myself one! ^^

    5. I was at an anime convention and saw a few on display. I inquired about their cost and nearly died since I was still in early high school, unemployed, and going through a difficult family financial experience. I never forgot their faces, though.

A few years later as I was about to enter college, I decided to screw it and save up for a doll. If I didn't like it, I could always sell it.

Now I have 6 beautiful kidlins that make me smile each and every day.

    6. I think I was searching 'Kawaii Decoden' stuff, (to make my iPhone cases with). And up in the results there was an 'off topic' doll. And so I clicked on it and in some of the results was Bjd's. So I just searched a little about them, and then about a year later, I purchased my first doll. ^^

    7. My longtime best buddy was into minis. She'd occasionally tell me about them and I'd roll my eyes and scoff.

Then, recently, I realized I really missed sewing, and I didn't want to make costumes for myself because it's too expensive and I have nowhere to wear them, except maybe cons or ren faires once a year. I covertly went to Walmart bought a Barbie to dress, but that sucked. With their limited poses, it's not even easy to get them into the clothes you make, and repainting their faces can also be a challenge.

So I bought a cheap 27cm Obitsu to dress. That was fun for about a week, as I put her in the stuff I'd made for Barbie and added some more outfits, but I felt limited by the small scale.

Then I started looking at 60cm BJDs and the rest is history. No way I could go back to another kind of doll now.

I'll probably pass the Barbie on to a small kid and the Obitsu on to a slightly older kid who loves dolls. They can have the truckload of historical clothes I made, too.

    8. It was years and years ago...maybe 2005 or so. An Internet friend of mine sent me links to a BJD blog, with photostories about these two characters - I still remember the characters, though I've long since lost track of the blog. I'd never seen them before and I pretty much decided "I NEED THIS!!"

It took me two years to save up for my first doll, but I got her in about 2007 or 2008, and it's just gotten better since!

    9. Surprisingly, it was my big brother who got me hooked into this hobby. He showed me the website of Mistula (Philippine's doll band) when I was in 3rd year highschool around 8-9 years ago. Ever since then I had been obsessing over bjds for YEARS. I bought my first doll last year and it was like a dream come true!

    10. My best friend bought her first MSD (Dollzone Mo) about 3 years ago and i've loved them ever since. I am not sure how she got into them, but that's how I discovered them.

    11. discovered Bjd when I was 12 years. Upon typing cute dolls I stumbled on Tender Too and T. Beea on DOD. I resesrched and gave up but now I am 16. It came back again as vengeance upon and wont get off no matter what I do

    12. I found out about bjds after I'd seen some on Amy Brown's website, who is one of my favourite fairy artists. I googled bjds and came across Iplehouse's website, and I just fell in love with them. :)
A few years later, and I've finally bought my first girl from Iplehouse.

    13. i found out about them on tumblr. a girl i follow started posting these really pretty dolls, but I didnt know what they were, when i finally found what they were I was thrown off by the price. usually money is enough to turn me away but i couldnt stop thinking about them and few months later i bought one.

    14. I was into Blythes soooo much and at one point visiting a friend's flickr I saw the first BJD doll...I thought that they looked interesting ...then forgot about them... keep on customizing blythes ....then I revisited my friend's flickr and saw her!!!! She was the prettiest face I have ever seen!!!
Kept on going back for more photos until one day I discover she was up for adoption I had to have her!!! She was way tooooooo expensive, I had to sell a Blythe and some dolly clothes and save and again save.....and now she is at home with me!!! I still cant believe she is mine!
      I am in love!!!
Lately I discover the boy dolls and I think my sweet girl might have a boyfriend soon!!! Awww and I think I am totally into deep with Iplehouse dolls!!!!!

    15. Just like a lot of people I found them on deviant lol. I saw them and fell in love. I knew I had to have one.

    16. deviantART! I was looking at something and stumbled upon a picture of ~softpoison's Benji and at fist I was like "what even, why would you want a doll like that?"
Then I saw someone had commented asking what they were and where to get one and she replied, so I took "BJD" out of what she said and googled it, and then I was hooked.

That's why softpoison is still one of my favourite bjd owners, she is a lovely girl and her dolls are marvellous. ❤

    17. I found out about them via "baby" doll forums that have a section for BJD's.....at first I wasn't very keen on them but the more I saw of them, the more they grew on me & I had to have one.....so I've just bought my very first - Doll Love Anona ;-)

    18. I was a collector of fashion-dolls for a few years, and one day just decided to know more about BJD...

    19. I probably discovered bjds around the time I first got into cosplaying which was when I was in 7th grade?. I discovered lolitas holding bjds and thought they were so beautiful so I looked up what they where. But since I was so young and they were so expensive I decided not to look to deeply into it yet until I could have a job. Some years later and here I am DoA :D haha

    20. I was just wandering around the internet one day and just happened to get at Dream of Doll website (can't remember how exactly). I felt in love immediately. Funny thing is I got so excited that I forgot to read the description, so for six months or so I thought they were like "Barbie sized" and that DoD was the only BJD store in the world, haha! It was almost ten years ago and, at that time, I was a child with no ways to get one of those and that made me so upset I stoped looking at it and tryed to forget about. Obviously I couldn't, then I just bought mine when I got older and could finaly afford one!
