Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. I was a bored little fetus scouring youtube and at the time, which is funny now that I think about it, I was really interested in pullips especially one that resembled my favorite anime character at the time, but my mom found it creepy so I just stay away from it.

whale I was watching a box opening and by some fates by the bjd heavens I accidentally clicked on this bjd box opening video of an sd sized Altair full set and I was curious because I was all like "dang that's a really big Barbie"

I watched some more box openings and after watching freyabunny19's 'what is a bjd" video I was totally hooked and did major research >< I asked my mom if I could get one and we made a bet that when I graduate with flying colors then she'll buy me one so currently saving up for one :)

    2. One day I had come across a few pictures of some and thought they were really beautiful. At the time I had no idea what kind of dolls they were until we had gotten a new co-worker at my job. We quickly became friends as we had a lot in common and one day they were talking about this doll that they had. Turns out it was a BJD. It was a really interesting conversation so I decided to do my own research on them and have been hooked ever since.

    3. I collect dolls-that-must-not-be-named and subscribe to 3 doll magazines. The mags have been loaded with BJDs for years & I just fell in love.

    4. I think I saw some pics on Deviant art and it kind of went from there. Seeing all the interesting and inspiring photos. I believe it was a volks doll I saw first. Then Jonathan Ross did a section about Super Dollfie on his programma Japanorama.

Googling the names and companies lead me on to here XD luckily I had a job at the time and was determined to get my hands on one :) been part of the hobby ever since โ™ก

    5. I stumbled across a DeviantArt account that was owned by this lady who had the most beautiful Minifee Chloes. I'd never really seen BJDs all done up with such natural and realistic faceups before, and my perception completely changed. I used to be a bit frightened of dolls, but those girls really changed my mind (at least for most sculpts. Some others still scare me just a little!). They were just beautiful and elegant and they looked so gentle and kind. Some Googling later and now I'm here, contemplating who my first doll should be :)

    6. I kept seeing them everywhere (especially instagram and devianart ) so I became intrigued by them. Now I am trying to save for one! Totally obsessed with them

    7. Amusingly enough, I was looking up Frankie Stein from Monster High when my google image search found the Frankenstein Ringdoll BJD. I thought he was the coolest looking thing and then I realized there were more like him! Imagine that. :XD:

    8. It started with a few flickr photos and a random stumbling onto someone's website about BJDs (stated more akin to an FAQ) through a lolita site. At first I thought they were too out of my taste due to their price point and the fact that people would want to play with such pricey pieces. Then I got to handle my first one at a convention a few months later and was hooked.
Granted, seeing an online friend pick them up as well didn't help. I was totally enableled at the hands of PukiPukis. And Puki Trek here kind of sold me. Even though it turns out I'm more of and SD girl. Now I totally understand. A hobby is exactly that - a hobby. The boyfriend can pay so much money on pieces of paper for Magic and he understand me paying so much money on resin or fabric provided the bills are paid for. :daisy

    9. I was actually watching TLC's My Strange Addiction: Addicting to being a Living doll. And one of the girls being interviewed said that she loved being a living doll, as a lot of people had told her she looked like an asian ball-jointed doll. I hadn't heard of the term before then, so I decided to google what it was. To my pleasant surprise, I discovered the beautiful world of BJD's by that simple search! After that, I started doing more searching on Deviantart and following individuals who posted pictures of their dolls ^ ^ That actually lead to me finding a good friend who's told me more about the doll world and told me about DoA!

    10. I remember watching about them in TV before. I fell in love at first sight! They were suuuuuuper gorgeous dolls and I promised myself that I will buy one, one day. I never forgot about it and kept savingg up until I finally saw one that truly caught my eye.

So I thank Mistula because if it weren't for them I wouldnt have discovered this awesome hobby.

    11. I think I found some pictures of Volks Nono while searching anime or dolls. I investigated, and found these dolls were a)huge, b)expensive, and c) nearly impossible to get. At the time, Volks didn't sell outside of Japan, and there were only two other makers, one of which was shut down for copyright violation. After much researching, I eventually managed to secure myself a Nono. She's 13 years old now. More were gathered as buying them became a lot easier. A number of them were "famous" dolls by other DOA members.

    12. Well... I am on deviantArt. One day a person that I watched actually for their nice and funny art posted a photo of their first BJD and I was like 'Wow, looks pretty cool' but that was around it. At that time. But then, while scrolling down on dA's front page, I saw a picture of a BJD. It was a DZ Yuu... And I fell in love! *o* I wanted to have a Yuu as well. And so I started getting into the hobby~ X3

    13. My roommates at the time decided to get BJDs about a year or so ago. I didn't actually like them at first but I was quickly converted and in about four months I had my own :D

    14. The first time i found out about BJD's was around 8-10 years ago i think. I read some article about them somewhere, so curious i went online looking for more info. But because i was in school at the time the prices scared the crap out of me, and i let it rest for a long time. About a year ago i came in contact with photo's on the internet and the BJD bug got to me again. So here i am saving up for my first doll.

    15. My daughter introduced me to the Bjd hobby. She gave me my first doll a Dikadoll Rena.

    16. I remember bjds were very popular in Korea long time ago (probably 2005 or smt like that), that's when I first discovered them but I was only in high school at the time and couldn't afford the dolls so I put it on the back of my mind.. I always knew about these dolls all these years but it's recent that I joined the hobby & caved in on my first Bjd. it's mainly because I was getting into collecting some off topic dolls and found a bjd doll similar sized and knew it was meant to be .Now I'm in process of buying 2 dolls and I can't wait to houses them

    17. I discovered BJD's as a hobby from seeing them on Youtube. I had never ever seen a bjd in person until I went to a show in North Carolina. They are so beautiful. I love the articulation of the joints. All Dolls make me Happy... but BJD's are the cutiest. :D

    18. At first, I was a manga and anime enthusiast. (I also collected figures and Nendoroids and such) So one day when I was scrolling through Google Images, I came upon...I believe it was a picture of an Iplehouse Jessica. I was interested, but didn't know what she was. Eventually, I gave up my search. Fast forward 4 months and I come upon a picture of Fairyland dolls, which led me to links and Wikipedia. ^^
Now I have a Luts doll, and am currently planning on my second :)

    19. I discovered BJD back in 2007 in Anime conv'. But it was lolita and very girly ones, the kind I don't like. Later I seen a Pukisha in black and very neat custo and medieval clothed ones, I was "now we're talking". I talked with the person, as now, we're still friends, which give me the name of the main forum available in our language where I started to gathering informations about it.

    20. It was a very circuitous path. I started out restoring my old American Girls. Through an AG forum, I discovered Monster High dolls. I was in love with the better articulation (the only other fashion dolls I'd ever had were some cheap Barbies with only 5 joints)!! I discovered Pullip, bought one of their kits, and did her faceup myself. Around this time, I heard about BJDs, but a quick look through at prices scared me off. I decided to try one of Groove's BJD Ais first (since they're SOOOO cheap lately) to see if I liked the general BJD customizability and setup. And I was hooked. If MH articulation is good, ball-joints are PHENOMENAL. Ready for resin babies now, please. :3
