It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. :)well,my friend has some, one day I just saw them in her house, than I love one of them at first sight, after that, I cant stop it.

    2. when i got into figure collecting hobby, i came across Dollfies, also i came across Chloe fairyland and was amazed how gorgeous she is but my interest wasnt triggered until iv seen a doll by IOS of Levi from shingeki.
i didnt bought him but he pushed me to start my research in hope of finding a male doll that will look like Genesis (ff7CC)
      long story short:
i have my first DD Miku and im very happy :)
im waiting for a full market access to ask someone to make a faceup for Erza scarlet and someone to make her costume :)
but one day ill get my Chloe and Genesis ^^

    3. I think it was via 2 friends. 1 who wanted one and another lady I knew via other dolls was into them in a big way. She has so many different types. It's amazing seeing the big bjd she has. Maybe one day I will get one too

    4. Through my miniature obsession, which led to and interest in dollhouse, which opened my eyes to how horrible dollhouse dolls are, which led me to discover BJDs. Of course, tinies are what spark my attention, to go along with my miniatures.

    5. I kept seeing them on Pinterest, and I wanted to create a board dedicated to them even though I did not know what they were. ;)

    6. I'm a bit of a collector by nature. I started collecting Blythe dolls a little over a year ago. I then started seeing different BJD showing up in other doll collector's pix and I started falling for a few of them. Doll collecting in general, for me, is a slippery slope...can't have just one;)

    7. A really funny story actually -
I was watching one of Kerli's music videos, Walking On Air , and I noticed the doll in the video and flipped out because it was beautiful and looked exactly like her.
I started searching the internet and couldn't find out what the dolls were called then my mom starting searching with me and found it in five minutes!
She of course regretted showing me later but she has to deal with it now haha!

    8. I saw my sister a couple of years ago when she bought her first doll. At first listening to our parents I didn't approve because how much she paid for the doll. Now she has bought more dolls until then. I love one doll she has but she told me to buy my own so she told me about this site and I started doing my own research on these different dolls. Now I love them.

    9. I was on youtube and one of the suggested was one of Nicolle's Dreams face-up videos, I watched it, watched some more, and more and ended up looking up bjd and fell in love with it. :)

    10. When I was very young, I got a sheet of stickers with super pretty dolls on them. I use to dream about them but couldn't read so I just forgot about them over the years. Then in middle school, I got into Pullip dolls and the whole doll photography community on Flickr. I saw BJDs here and there but wasn't really interested because they were just too expensive. I managed to find that sheet of stickers from way back when one day and googled the name on the top of the sheet which was "Super Dollfie." That was kind of my intro into the BJD world and considered buying my first doll in sporadic bouts over the years with no action. I'm glad to have finally committed to purchasing my first doll after so long.

    11. I was doing a course in 3D animation and we had some free time to do our own thing and the girl next to me was funnily enough using doa and looking at bjd sites. I asked her what she was looking at and she told me about bjd and what not and when I got home I started to look at some of the companies she had told me about. That was back in 2009 and it wasn't until last 2013 I finally had my own money to get my first doll but I did once in awhile look up bjd stuff even when I had no money and would cry over the limited dolls that were out.

    12. For me it all started after watching an anime show called Angelic Layer. I know that mechanical walking dolls controlled by your brain is still an impossibility so I went to the next best thing, anime based dolls you can customize, display and play with. I was looking at different sites when I came across the Volks and Dream of Doll line and fell in love with their sculpts. I've been looking and researching BJD sites since then until I saved enough money to get one for myself.

    13. I first saw them online on Google image search somehow. They were so beautiful, but I didn't know what they were called, so I sort of forgot about them until one of my best friends bought her first boy. It was love at first sight. I held him in my arms and knew I wanted one too. Now I'm waiting for my first MSD to come in. ^-^

    14. I first found it after a local cosplayer I like cosplayed Lahoo from DoD. I loved bjds then but that was during the height of my hectic college life. A couple of years later, I found bjd photos on instagram from local owners. I marveled at the beauty of their dolls and how much character they put into each doll and that's what made me hooked into this hobby, character and aesthetics.

    15. I was introduced to them quite some time ago (see my join date).
But i was pretty young so i though i'd never own enough money to buy one.
So i just fantasized about them a lot. And i wrote a lot of stories around them.
Then a few years later i just totally forgot about them, until i saw a few of them at a comic convention in the Netherlands.
After that i fell in love again.

    16. I saw them years ago, it must have been online and I was really keen to have one but thought I would never be able to justify the cost. Got my first last year :)

    17. I found out about BJDs via "Another" which is an anime series, manga, and book that I have been trying to tackle in Japanese. One of the main characters is involved with the dolls, and I wanted one for myself :)

    18. My daughter loves to draw anime, she wanted a pullip for her birthday to do photo stories when she was 11. She asked me to teach her to sew for them, and then try customizing. We have a dozen pullip dolls. She is now 13. She gave me all her dolls so she could spend more time on her drawing skills. I stopped buying pullip dolls for her and saved that money to get my first two bjd's. Now I'm doing all the sewing and painting for them.

    19. In Finnish doll forum Bdoll people had BJDs and that got me interested.

    20. On Instagram. I saw these beautiful photos of what I thought were models (human ones). To my surprise, they were BJD's! I became OBSESSED after that. :)
