1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you discover the BJD hobby?

Apr 8, 2011

    1. Haha I love ebay (:

    2. I also first discovered them on DeviantArt with an artist I watch. At first I was pretty dumbfounded because I thought she made the dolls as well. XD
I had just gotten into customizing My Little Ponies so I thought: I think it'd be fun to convert my characters to dolls.
Started researching, balked at the price, but figured, I'm still interested. I bought several dolls this year 4 tinies, 2 SD, and 2 MSD.

I'm now considering making my own dolls for a few characters since I just can't find the perfect molds for them. Iplehouse comes close but...I'm too much of an artist not to try for my self!

    3. I was researching images of Barbie Repaints because when I saw them I thought they were so much better looking with the Artist "touch" and in the masses of images I saw this *Girl* ... I was mesmerized ... she looked like a real person and I found the tag Dollfie and the search was on ... and I found my new Love(s) <3

    4. I first discovered them while following random links. I have no clue what that first link was. Then I forgot about them for a few years after I looked at the price and, well, yeah....

I recently rediscovered them while looking at random etsy stuff. This time around, I had the funds for a new hobby. I'm happy that I waited, because the ones I have wouldn't have been available back then.

    5. I blame my friend Alexisbears. She introduced them to me last year, but it's only been recently that I've looked into them more closely and discovered how addictive they are. I've been making dolls house miniatures for over 10yrs, so tiny bjd are a natural progression I guess!

    6. Oh wow that's quite a history : )

    7. My mum makes dolls house miniatures, she was selling some 1:12 cardigans on eBay and she had some people contact her asking if they would fit Lati Yellow dolls I think it was. So we did some googling and found out about this whole huge hobby we'd never heard of before!

    8. Encyclopedia Dramatica, the 'wapanese' entry. Yeah.

    9. What happened to the lizards and snakeys? Did you get any of them from her?

    10. This made my day

    11. I more or less stumbled on it. I'm a member of DeviantART and had seen bjds on and off for a while. I thought they were pretty, but the detail (and price) to be way out of my league. Then I saw one used in a photo in the aftermath of the Japan disaster. I was bored so I decided to look them up and a couple months later here I am. Totally addicted.

    12. Oh I'd love to see that photo : )

    13. I discovered the BJD on a Gothci Lolita forum. There was a topic on the doll and I look it by curiosity. Imediatly fall in love of BJD ! *_*

    14. Actually, before I really 'discovered' BJD, I remember seeing some lolita girls at a local shopping malls, they had SD sized BJD dolls with them, like sitting in their arms, I remember being shocked back then : )))

    15. I first saw them on deviantart. At first I thought it was a person and I was shocked when I read the description and found out it was a doll. I didn't really fall in love or want one until a couple years later when I found them again through a random youtube search.

    16. an artist on neopets who I watch rather obsessively posted a photo of her doll, I was curious, researched and well, here i am today :3

    17. Heh neopets has brought a lot of good : )))

    18. another member here had posted her doll photos on another forum and i was intrigued. so i went to her site to check out more and... well... i fell in love and had to have one of my own :P

    19. LOL some of the answers here crack me up. Who'da thunk encyclopedia dramatica is actually influential :D

A friend of mine have had Unoas forever but I wasn't a close friend with her until recently. She managed to convert another friend of mine to the BJD hobby (she now has 3 IH dolls) and then after seeing her dolls I started wanting one... 5 months later and here I am with 1 doll that I love to bits and one that should be with me on Wednesday :D

    20. I discovered it from my friends, when two of my best friends suddenly got dolls. One got a SD boy and another got a MSD boy. Once we met all together and I had a chance to see those dolls in real life! I found them so cute and beautiful...
Within the next few weeks I've ordered my first doll which was a SD girl xD It all happened in 2008, so long ago! lol
